Robert Pinkney 1826c Tudhoe Durham

My research has come to a halt because I cannot find the parents of my g g grandfather Robert Pinkney.In the various census's he is down as being born in Tudhoe, Fullwell and Durham. He married Jane Telford in 1850 and his father is on the marriage certificate as John Pinkney, coal miner. Robert died in 1890. Any help much appreciated as there are a few folk researching this side of the family. Regards Doreen

Hi, my husband is David Metcalfe(B 1963 Ripon).Christopher Metcalfe and Jane Pinkney were his 3rd Gt Grandparents. We have many Metcalfe relatives in Ripon and surrounding areas.

Pinkney Park in Rowayton, CT was the home of my paternal grandparents. However it came to the Pinkney family through my paternal's grandfather's mother, who was a Dibble. The 3 families connected with the house are Dibble, Seeley & Pinkney. The Pinkneys are descended from William Pinkney of Annapolis, Maryland - The Honorable Wm Pinkney having served as a US Congressman, US Senator, Minister to England, Minister to Russia, Attorney General to President James Madison, also I believe he held other political positions.

I do not recall which part of the UK that the Honorable Wm. Pinkney's father came from in the 1700's to Maryland. I am not familiar with the first name of Hobart in my family tree.

I was pleased to find a reference to Pinkney, as my husbands family include Pinkneys who were in Nottingham, UK and then in Birmingham, Warwickshire. But on visits to daughter in Rowayton,CT we have been to Pinkney Park, and wondered if there is a connection. Do you know any more?

In group 1, kit 71739 has upgraded to 37 markers with results due any day now. In group 2, kit 78682 has upgraded to 37 with results due in 6-8 weeks. I have not asked the 3rd group, John Binkley of NC to upgrade to 37, as there is no reason to do so, until they start getting matches.

Two new kits are coming due. Both believe that they do not match the Swiss Binkleys. One kit will start having results trickle in late this week or early next week and the other kit will be back in 6-8 weeks.

Group 1 is getting a little closer to splitting apart, but will still need more DNA participants in order for me to do this.

(The 1903 City Directory Lists a Samuel Pinkney as residing at 804 McDonough St)

Family oral history States that Louis Pinkney was born in Carroll County in 1830 and was the slave of a man named Pinkney White. Louis Pinkney had three sisters, Mary Pinkney who married a man named ? James, Dollie Pinkney who married a Dr. Reid and a sister who married a Silas Caution. Also stated was that a family member drove a produce wagon which had a false bottom and carried runaway slaves to Pennsylvania. Other information states that there was a relative named Eugene Pinkney who lived in Annapolis, Maryland.

The earliest official records found of any family member is the 1850 census, which lists Lewis Pinkney as a 23 year old waiter at a hotel (Ward 6, page 397).

A copy of Louis Pinkney's death certificate reveals the following information:

1. Louis Pinkney's death certificate did not reveal his parents names or the name of the
informant.

2. Carroll County did not exist when Louis Pinkney was born (1830). Carroll County was
formed in 1832
from parts of Frederick and Baltimore Counties. Louis Pinkney was probably born in
Baltimore County.

3. Louis Pinkney was the Slave of a Man named Pinkney White. William Pinkney's
daughter Isabella, Pinkney married a Man named Joseph White and had a son named
William Pinkney White. This is probably the Pinkney White who owned Louis
Pinkney.

4. Louis Pinkney worked for George S. Brown (Alex Brown & Sons.), a banker and
slaver.

5. The 1860 census list Louis Pinkney's as a farm laborer working for the Whitridge
Family.

6. Louis Pinkney married Sarah J. Hopkins, daughter of Charles Hopkins and a Cherokee
Indian named Julia (surname unknown).

7. The 1858 City Directory lists a Francis Pinkney as residing at 18 Lerew Al. with
Hannah Caution, (possibly Louis and Hannah's father?)

8. The 1903 city directory lists a Samuel Pinkney who resided at 804 McDonough St?

Dear Beverly- Thank you for the info. The reason why I have been searching for info regarding Townsend and Josephine is that we have a very dear friend who is the daughter of Algernon Brown from his second marriage. Evelyn is in her 80's and lives in Florida now but grew up in Scarsdale, NY. She distinctly remembers Townsend and Josephine. In fact, when Josephine died, she inherited many things from her estate.

Evelyn never quite knew the relationship between her father and Townsend. Algernon died of a heart attack after riding in a hunt in new Jersey when she was in her teens, so much has remained a mystery for her. And she had no idea her father had been married to Josephine until I found it in the Census records.

In any case, our friend would love to have the chance to speak to you to see if there was anything else she could find out. She does not know how to use a computer, so I have done all the searching for her. Is there a way she could get in touch with you?

Townsend Pinkney and Algernon W. Brown were business associates. Pinkney was born in NYC, and Brown in Brownsville, PA.

I have in my possession the marriage record of Townsend and Josephine Pinkney. They were married on March 6 1936 at the Municipal Building in Manhattan, NY. Townsend was living at 716 Madison Avenue, and Josephine at 315 East 57th Street. He was 55, and she was 36, a divorcee. Josephine was the daughter of Frank and Helen (West) Tibbits. She was the former Mrs. Algernon W. Brown. Interestingly, this Algernon signed his name as a witness to the marriage.

Townsend was very close to his brother, Cornelius Sidell Pinkney. Cornelius was married to and divorced from Sophia Piel. She was the daughter of Gottfried Piel of the famous Piel’s Brewing Company.

I am looking for more information on Townsend Pinkney and Josephine C. Brown Pinkney.

Josephine was married to Algernon W. Brown according to the 1920 Census. At the time, he was 25 years and she was 27. They then divorced. According to the 1930 Census, Algernon had remarried and had 2 children.

Townsend was a member of the Saint Nicholas Society of the City of New York.

Algernon and Townsend apparently had a friendship or business relationship. The Census shows that they were both "brokers." According to a friend of mine (now in her 80's), she remembers him- but also remembers Josephine. She has asked me to look into this to see what the connection might have beenbetween these people.

Josephine never remarried. The NY Times showed she lived at 35 East 38th Street.

We plan to visit Valhalla in the near future to see the monument for ourselves.

If you have any information, I would appreciate learning more. Thank you.

Pinckney's passing for WHITE in SC

My father told me his grandfather came from Hilton Head area, I assume Pinckney Island. He stated his grandfather Talmage Pinkney and his brothers were children of their slave owner. The two brother left the area maybe not SC after the civil war and PASSED for white and my gggrandfather went to Maryland. Although he could have passed he chose not to and stated he would take the "C" out of PINKNEY so they could know his family. Has anyone heard of any stories of that? This is truly a sad story, but one never knows what it's like for suvival.

I have some information on PINKNEY's in the Langton by Malton area. Nothing as late as 1844 as the line I followed had moved on to Bridlington by that stage.

He served in the 68th regiment of foot and was posted to Quebec , Ontario, Canada. He had two wives 17 children and his son Benjamin and his wife Rose KENWELL moved with 2 brothers to Ontario, Canada. I would to share info with interested relatives. Thank you.

Martha Hancock (or Handcock) was my gg grandmother. She died in 1903. Her family lived in SC. She married Charles Pinkney ( or Pinckney) Powell (1824-1914) and they had 9 children that we know of. (John, Georgia Ann, Starling Elder, Charles Pickney, Jane Q. (or Jannie) , David Thomas, Mary, Richard, William Hancock. John Powell died in the Civil War so we have been told. One of these was my greatgrandfather, Starling Elder Powell (1844-1932). My info came from my great aunt Georgia Mealing Powell Adams. (born 1893..is now dead but I do not have exact DOD) I have some info from the will of Martha Hancock..who was the mother of this Martha who died in 1903. I can not locate it now.

A while back we purchased a mirror from ‘Pinkneys of Peel’ (antiques dealers).
The mirror was said to be from their family home which had been sold and moved in 1975. The house was originally called ‘Silverthorne’. It was moved to 680 Silvercreek Blvd. and Cawthra in Mississauga and called Cherry Hill Restaurant.
Two of my Bonham ancestors married Pinkneys. Mary Jane Pinkney married John Bonham in 1862. Sarah Pinkney married James Bonham.
I have no other information about the two Pinkney women and I am endeavouring to find any connection to the Pinkney family that originally owned the house.
I do have a newspaper article from 1929 describing the house and its furnishings.
If you can shed any light on this or would be interested in a copy of the article , let me know.

My Greatgrandmother was Renabell Pinkney. Her husband was Roland Pinkney. These are from my mother's side of the family. I'm having trouble finding any more info before the above names. Any help would be apriciated. I'm working on a family tree for my children.

I also have a Abraham in my tree, 2/9/1873, parents were William Pinkney and possibly Barbara Rose. I actually have 8 children listed, none of which are Benjamin. Abrahams wife i have as being Ruth Rheinhard. Could this tie in? Jackie

Just seen this message - don't know if you are still chasing this up. John is definitely the son of Lucy, and he died in 1861. I am descended directly from John and have much info on the Suffolk Pinkneys. Email directly if you want more.

Married : Isabel Willis

James J. Saunders, Birth: 1794
Married: Seba Sirkle

Sarah Saunders , Birth: 1788
Married: Lewis Sirkle on 11 Aug. 1818
Seba and Sirkle were brother & sister.

Elizabeth SAunders, Birth: 1789
Married: Zephiniah Harrison on 13 March, 1823

Mary Sarah { Polly } Saunders Birth: 1797
Married: Anthony Robertson on 19 Aug. 1822

Peter Saunder Birth: 1800
Married: Sarah Stover or Slover on 15 Dec. 1825

Catherine Saunders Birth: 1805
Married: Clark McCallister on 10 Dec. 1835

Lydia Saunders Birth: 1808
Married: John Harris on 28 Oct. 1836

How I read this letter all of these children were there.

They wrote about the cemetery and there familys.
I have wrote to this person and one came back and don't know what happen to the others one. Did They get a new Email address?

Do you have anymore children for Jeffery Saunders and Phoebe Smith. I read they went to Evansville Indiana between
1813 -1819. I found them in 1820 census in Union Vanderbugh, County, Indiana. I am working on our family I read that they were the parents of Catherine Saunders on the IGI Records they have her born in Logan Ky. 1805 parents
Robert Jeffrey Saunders and Feroba Phoebe Smith.

Yorks & Hartlepool Pinkneys

I am seeking more info about the Pinkneys of Yorks/Hartlepool - I believe there may still be existing family in the Hartlepool area.

My Gt grandfather Thomas Pinkney was born in Malton c1854, and married Mary Ann (Richmond) in York in 1884. They then moved to Glasgow where 2 sons were born - Ernest (b 1887) & Leonard(b c 1893) - before again moving to Hartlepool prior to the 1901 census.

If any of these dteails correspond to your research, I'd be pleased to hear form you.

Norwalk Union Cemetery, Norwalk, CT headstone inscription reads:

Hobart, son of James W. & Sarah A. Pinkney, died 10/15/1894, age 60 years.
