Mildred,

I was scanning the web and came across your ancestry search from 2003. The thing that caught my eye was that my mother Mary Pitassi, also married a Martino (Philip). They were born here in America. However, their parents who migrated to America around 1902 previously lived in the area of Foggia, Italy. I am not sure if there is any relationship, but thought that it was kind of ironic. Once in America they lived in Chicago and later moved to California in the 1930's.

Jon Martino
jmartin_6@yahoo.com

I am doing some research on the Pitasi family. Your ancestors came very likely from Calabria. The american part you will have to yourself. On the italian part I will do my best. Untill now I have been working on the Civil State of Cardeto, San Salvatore, Mosorrofa and Cataforio. On Roccaforte del Greco I will concentrate myself later. These are the only villages as to my knowledge where the name Pitasi excisted untill ca. 1900.

Hi there. I am researching the Pitassi's as well. My husband is a Pitassi from Pittsburgh. His Grandfather Giuseppe Pitassi immigrated from Ateleta in 1913 and went to Bloomfield. I have some information on the Pitassis, but not much. Many came to Pittsburgh. I would love to tie you into our line. Maybe if we trade information we can fill in some holes. I don't know of a Paul (yet) but I have names of a few siblings of Giuseppe's that immigrated too (but there could be more). If you'd like to trade information please don't hesitate to e-mail me at lpitassi@earthlink.net.

Thanks!

Locating Father's Arrival in America

Hi: My maiden name was Mildred Pitassi. I am trying to find out the exact day my Father, Paul Pitassi came to America. He was born in 1887 and died in 1955. He owned a grocery store in Pittsburgh. I remember he said that he came here when he was very young. He was born in Atelata in the Province of A'Quila. I have logged on to Ellis Island and cannot find his name listed under our correct spelling or other spellings. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Just saw your question for the first time today. as you can see my branch of the family kept the ss but changed the i to y.

I am the grandson of Julius (Giulio) Pitassy, born in Pacentro, Italy, a small hill town in Abruzzi, in 1880.

My uncle, Caesar Pitassy did some research in the early sixties and found that the family migrated from Hungary in the 16th or 17th century, probably as mercenaries.

At present there are Pitassis in Siena and Venice for sure, but what connection they have with my branch, if any, is unknown.
