Married In A Balloon
Birmingham, Alabama, October 24 - A novel wedding took place here today. Thomas J. Mims and Miss Gertrude Pitman, a young couple from Brewton, Alabama, were married in midair in a balloon at the fair grounds by Rev. T. M. Adams, president of the State Farmers' Alliance, after which they took an aerial bridal tour of 17 miles, landing safely at Helena, Shelby County. Prof. Baldwin, aeronaut, handled the balloon. Mr. Mims was only 21 and his bride 17. They were given $250 and numerous present to make the trip.
The bridal couple landed on top of a mountain 18 miles from Birmingham, after a trip of an hour. They were seven miles from a railroad but the country people nearby carried them to Helena, where they took a train for Birmingham
