Rescued Photo, PITT Surname, Buffalo, NY

As a hobby, I rescue old photos that have identification on them. This one was taken in Buffalo, NY and is of a distinquished man. He's older and has a longer goatee and mustache that are graying. The gray is in his eyebrows and his hair seems to have it too.

On the back is written: "Wm H. Pitt, Buffalo N.Y. July 1891."

I'd like to find family to send this to. If you'd like to obtain it, contact me at: digginroots@yahoo.com for details.

Kathy

She was born to Jacob Ashley Pitt and Emma Alice Holland Pitt in 1918 in Nashville, TN. I would like to know more about Jacob and Emma. I think they were born mid to late 1870s. They lived in Robertson Co., TN (Springfield, Greenbrier area). I hope someone will have information on their parents, dates of birth, other children, etc. Thanks for your help in advance.

Mike

John Pitt, carpenter and wheelwright, fl. 1642 - 1660, London

Hi! I am doing research on merchants and craftsmen who in 1642 supplied the city of Londonderry in Northern Ireland with ordnance and munitions. John Pitt is listed in records of the London Great Companies as the carpenter who supplied the carriages for the cannon sent to the City. He was appointed as carpenter to the Office Of the Ordnance in 1642 and worked there until at least 1662. At one point, he had a workshop in the Minories in London. I have attached all of the information that I have below.

I would be most grateful for any further information which will be fully acknowledged when the work is published.

Best wishes

Kelleen
__________

John Pitt became Ordnance carpenter in May or June of 1642, after the death of his predecessor Matthew Banks. He supplied the basic bodies and the coins of the different sorts of carriages required by the Ordnance, working in different woods. For example standing carriages were made from oak and ships carriages from elm. He also carried out general carpentry for the Ordnance, making chests for transporting arms, repairing the crane on the Tower Wharf, as well as supplying carpentry tools. John worked at the buildings at the Tower, the Artillery Garden, and in the Minories where he had his own workshops.

In a warrant for payment issued on August 1st 1649, he is referred to as as a ‘wheelwright’ and slated for payment for ‘necessaries for carriages for Ireland’ (Calendar of State Papers Domestic 1649, 583). In 1650 he was paid for ‘carpentering for the train of artillery’ (May 9th) and ‘for filed (sic!) carriages, carpenters’ tools, & c. for the artillery train’ (July 9th), in association with Thomas Bateman (Cal. SPD 1650, 576 and 581). Pitt was also paid for providing tools in 1651 (Cal. SPD 1651, July 1st, 574). It seems not unlikely the Pitt was another Ordnance Office craftsman who could have been a company liveryman. The records of the Worshipful Company of Coachmakers and Coach Harness Makers, founded in 1677, were destroyed in the Blitz, but it is unlikely that Pitt was a member of the Livery, and the name is not mentioned in the Company history.

In 1643, he was compensated for being made a prisoner by royalists at Guilford when returning to London from working at Portsmouth, the Cavaliers stealing his sword, instruments, coat, horse and bible. This rather suggests where his sympathies lay. Nevertheless, Pitt continued until at least July of 1661, although seemingly not involved in the making gun carriages.
Pitt ca. 1839-1840 perhaps in Tennessee, they were the parents of five boys, all of whom came to Texas in the mid 1800's. Any knowledge of Mary Pitt and her lineage, or what happened to her or William would be appreciated, I do not think they came to Texas with the boys, possibly they passed away in Tennesse or Arkansas. Thanks
for any help on Mary E. Pitt

Pitt Family

I'm looking for information on a Sarah Ann Williams Wall Pitt. Sarah's second husband was William E Pitt. They lived in Archer County, Texas and I asume they died there. Sarah Ann is my great great grandmother. Her first husband Lewis Wall is my great great grandfather. I am wanting to find out when she died, where she is buried and if she had any other children. On the 1930 Census for Archer County shows a son named Howard. On that census it says Sarah Ann was born in Arkansas, but on the 1900 census when she was married to Lewis Wall, it says she was born in Missouri. So I would like to clear that up too. Sarah Ann was born in October 1873 in Missouri or Arkansas. She lived in Oklahoma for a short time and also in Missouri. She married a William E Pitt. I would also like to find out about Mr Pitt and his family as well. Check my genealogy website for more information.
http://okiegenweb.edula.com/

Pitt family

I am very interested in knowing the Pitt family. Unfortunately, I know nothing about where I am from. My mother was married to Ralph Coyman Pitt in the late 60's. From there she moved to California leaving him. I know that he was from Texas. That is where they met. From there, they moved to Arizona where they had their first child together. Her name is Betty Gayle Pitt. I was born later in Truckee California. From there my mother took us two kids to Oregon. We have not heard anything else about the Pitt family. We do know that our father had no sisters or brothers (according to our mother who is now deceased). He was born in Kansas, and at the time of my sisters birth he might have been 44 years old. That was 36 years ago. We are pretty sure that he has other children and we think that he may be deceased as well. I just want some information about that side of the family for my family tree.
James PITT plus William MEREDITH, Herefordshire, early 1800's

Looking for information about William MEREDITH. In 1796 he was residing on the freehold property of a James M. Lyde in Peterchurch, Herefordshire, England.

I have an ancestor James MEREDITH, that was of Peterchurch Parish when he married Elizabeth PITT in 1805. She was of Clodock Parish, Longtown Township, also in Herefordshire.

The first child of James and Elizabeth was baptized in Peterchurch in 1806, William MEREDITH. James and Elizabeth also had at least eight other children, six of which were known to be baptized in Clocodk Parish from 1810 to 1828.

Would like to determine if William MEREDITH was the father of James MEREDITH.

James was an exciseman at the time of his marriage in 1805 and through the 1810 baptism of a child. He was shown as a labourer/formerly exciseman when child in 1814 was baptized. At the time of baptism of ninth child in 1828 James was a freeholder.

Are you related to any of these individuals? Can you offer suggestions of records or places to search?
Ruth Ann in U.S.A.

I have the last name of Pitt, but have never known that side of my family. My fathers name is Ralph Coyman Pitt. I know that he was an only child. He had a son who drowned as a child. All of this information is from my mother who is now deceased. I want to find out more. I am pretty sure that he is now gone. I am 36 and my father was 44 when I was born. I am interested in knowing more about this side of my family. I suspect that he had more children. I was born in 1967 in Pheonix Arizona. My sister was born in Trucky California. He is our father. I know that he is from Texas, around Franklin. I do not know much of anything else. If anyone out there knows anything about him or his ancestors, I would greatly appreciate your response. Thank you

Looking for info on my grandfather, William G Pitt, born in UK emmigrated to Canada where he married someone? We have no name. Then he emmigrated to USA-New York, settling in Buffalo, married a Polish immigrant, my grandmother Rose. He had a sister in UK, Sarah Elizabeth. The building that used to be her house was taken over by a bank, Barclay's I think, and they have a Pitt room in the bank. My cousin wrote to the bank, but they ignored the post, so any info is greatly appreciated.

thanks!
Mal
