Hi, we don't have a lot of info on who connects to our line of Colangelos. So, as far as I know, we're not related to the Pizza listed in the obit. I post obits of what I consider to be hard to find names to help other researchers.

I hvae posted our Colangelo family information on the message board and have never recived a reply.

Thank you very much for getting in touch with me. I have printed your message and added it to my information.

Drema Workman Colangelo

I see that your name is Colangelo. Are you realted to the Pizza that you indicated in the obit? Do you know where your Italian ancestors came from?

Also, please check out the message board for the surname of Colangelo. You will see postings there of marriages of those named Colangelo from Senerchia, Italy.

The surnames of Pizza and Colangelo are in the comune of Senerchia, Italy, which is in the Region of Campania and the Province of Avellino. We have a mail list for those researching ancestors from the comune of Senerchia. It is located on Yahoo, under Groups. Please feel free to check it out and join should you be researching ancestors from that comune. Thanks.

Denise

I was seraching through Ancestory.com Message Board and came across some interesting pieces of information from you that may corelate to my husband's family - some of the information that you have posted is very close but not an exact match...maybe we can figure it out...

My husband is Dustin Pizza - his father Albert Pizza was the son of Michael Pizza who came from Montella, Italy around 1901. I am wondering if he is the same Michael that you mentioned in your posting as your Grandfather's brother. The info that I have on Michael - which was documented by Dustin's Aunt is that he was born Jan 1876 in Montella, died July 1940 in Chester, PA. He was married to Rosalba Sesso also from Montella.

Any information you can provide would be very helpful.

My grandfather was Tony (Anthony) Pitts...even ANOTHER version of the original PIZZA name. Some of the family thought the name was changed by immigration officials but we believe it was "Americanized" by School Authorities as the children entered school. Interesting... all the different spelings of the original!

The Italian family name of Pizza is common to Southern Italy and, in particular, the Province of Naples.

My father's family name was originally Pizza and they were
from the city of Marigliano in the Province of Naples.
My paternal grandfather, Raffaele Pizza, immigrated to the
USA in 1895 at the age of 7.

However, he changed the spelling of the name from Pizza
to Pizzi upon arrival in the States.

Two of my grandfather's brothers also came to the USA.
The older brother, Michele, also took the name Pizzi.

The other brother that came to the USA was Vicenzo
Pizza but I haven't been able to find out anything about
him after his arrival. He may have kept the original name
of Pizza.

There was also a first cousin of my grandfather, Salvatore
Pizza, that immigrated to the USA about 1912. I have
no information on him beyond his arrival in the USA. He
may have also kept the original name of Pizza.

I hope this is of some help...at least to the common orgin
of the family name Pizza.

Tony E. Pittsey (the name was changed a third time!)
Naples, Italy
