I am trying to find information on Elisabeth Planer, my great grandmother.. She came to the U.S. in 1892 from Germany. She was 17 years old and came alone. I have found no other information on her family. She arrived in Baltimore Maryland and settled in South Carolina where she married my Great Grandfather named John Lewis Kinard. Any info would be helpful. Just trying to find out why she came here alone at such a young age. I was told she was pregnant, but have found no records to back that up. would like to know of any family members she left behind.

In
Canada it is nice but not as warm as where
you live, my mother told me that Australia
California, Brazil and Canada were countries they could apply to emigrate to after the war. They through about Australia but chose Canada. Seems that all Planers are searching
and do not have strong ties to their
ancestry. There are a lot in the United States. My fathers family came from the
Black Forest Region- really in the same boat
don't know much about his family, most died in the 1940's.
Hi Heather..it seems that all the Planers I come across are searching and have little information on family roots, like you we thought we were the only ones who had this name but it seems to be as common as Smith, especially in Europe. My Great grand parents came from the Black Forest Region of Germany and travelled to Yugoslavia and Austria, does your family also come from this region. We now reside in Toronto, Canada. I think my father is the last of his family, not sure though.
Hope to hear from you. Regards

Just read your message regarding Planers from Saxony. My grandfather was Frederick Planer from there. Born 1820. He came to America sometime in the 1850's He had one son Julius that was born in Germany. He settled in Pennsylvania, married Elizabeth Swartz and then moved to Minnesota. I have not had very good luck finding anythin about him. There is one story that he came to America with 2 children, but had to give one away. Do not know whether this is fact or not. Would love to hear if you know anything about these Planers.

My grandfather Frederick Tobias Planer, was born Dec 1. 1895 in Golden Eagle Calhoun, IL. His father was George Michael Planer born abt 1855 in Wurtenburg Germany, George had a brother named John George Planer. Their father was Friederick Planer from Wurtenburg Germany. There is some speculation that Friederick may have had more children and may have himself came to US later. The sons came in 1880, and came to St. Louis, MO first.
I have photographs of George Michael Planer.
Hello, I am writting because I beleive that the "Mary Slowinski" that you referred to in your message is my father's Aunt "Mae". She is the sister of John M. Slowineski, Matthew Slowinski, James Slowinski, Agnes Slowinski (Sosnowski) and Julie Slowinski (Mizeski). I was wondering if your Grandmother Mary Slowinski Planer is the same person as my father's Aunt "Mae" Mary Slowinski Planer?? Also, if we are speaking of the same person... I wonder if you have any idea as to why some people in the family spell the last name with an "e" added and some do not... as far as I know, the "e" was added at some point to some of the families names, but I do not know why!!! My sister I are compiling information for our family tree and if in fact we are speaking of the same "Mary" any info you have would be greatly appreciated!!! You can e-mail me a LGABBZ901@AOL.COM.. I look foward to hearing from you..... Lorraine

Hello Magdlalina in Canada! You have such a
beautiful name! I am just a mite under,
but not as "down under" as Elaine, although Elaine
is my own middle name! Funny, I
had written her the same first line about
down under!

I wonder if Austrailians tire of the down under
comment as much as locals where I live do of the
"you must ski alot" or "you must hunt for all
of your food"! It's not really that bad, although
I finally did break down and go skiing two
winters ago at age 30.

I agree that the Planers seem to have very
shallow roots, I'm afraid. Have you any other
information? I have little, however no one from
Canada, but there may be great aunts or uncles
who traveled. It would not have been impossible.

Please feel free to e-mail me at home at
ogwendel@noln.com. I would love to chat some more and
see what we can come up with together!

Gwendolyn

I am from the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania.

Hello there Elaine...that's my middle name!

How wonderful is livingin Austrailia?
I've always enjoyed reading and learning about
it. Ever hear of Monkey Mia? I've been wanting
to go there for 10 years! Someday!

So, what information are you seeking about the Planer
family? The oldest ancestor I have knowledge
of (I can get more from my Grandma) is a Fredrec Wylhelm Planer.
I believe he and his wife Caroline Schmidt (Planer) embarked
from Germany to USA. Their son (my granfather) Fredrick eloped with
his wife (grandma) Mary Slowinski (Planer). The Polish and
German meet! It's a fun mix. My mom's side has even more!
They were not kidding when they called the USA the "Great
American Melting Pot":)

If you would like to type back...ogwendel@noln.com. It would be fun
to trace the histories and see if we are related!

Gwen

Planer in NE

My grandfather (Friedrich) Christian Friedrich Planer b. 10 Aug 1857 d. 8 Feb 1920 came from Mörsdorf, Duchy of Sachsen-Altenberg (Thuringia), Germany. His parents were Christian Planer and Louisa Benhaum. He immigrated in 1879, settled in IA and in 1881 married Ida (Smith) Schmidt, a widow with 4 daughters. Friedrich and Ida would have 2 sons and 2 daughters. In 1886 they moved to NE. Ida died in 1893 and Friedrich then married my grandmother, Minnie Schulz, in 1895. Friedrich and Minnie would have 11 more children. Friedrich had 3 sisters and 1 brother who also immigrated to the USA. One sister was Annie who was married to a Counter and lived at one time in Kenosha, WI. The other's names are unknown. Two sisters and a brother stayed in Germany. Would love to find the names of his siblings and any of their descendants.

My mother is a Planer. Her cousin traced the tree back to a family of 14 children -- thus, lots of cousins possible. See http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~westroot/planer/ind...

Trivia: Richard Wagner's first wife was Mina Planer.

Planer (Von Planer from Germany)

I am looking for any information on my ggrandfather who was a duke in Germany Von Planer was his name. My ggrandfather was a horse trader in Germany. When my grandfather was old enough he helped my ggrandfather with the business. My grandfather would go to different country's and America to sell and trade the horse's for his father. Before the first World War my grandfather told his father that a war was coming. He said he just had this feeling that something was going to happen soon. He told my ggrandfather and his brothers to leave Germany and go to America but they did not want to leave. So my grandfather took the horse' that where to be traded and sold but never returned with the money. He went to America instead. His father told him that if he ever step on Germany's soil again he would be shot. So now I am trying to find out who my ggrandfather was and if there are any other relatives over there plus any information about my grandfather Erich Von Planer. He dropped the Von when he came to America.
