Surnames: Platts
Joseph PLATTS, born 1815 Crich, Derbyshire. Moved to Russia, worked as engineer for Black Sea Steam Ship Company 1837-1842. Subsequently owned a steam flour mill at Kertch, Crimea which was destroyed by British forces in 1855. Then worked as interpreter for the Admiralty.

Long association with Odessa, Russia. John Joseph PLATTS was chief engineer of Odessa Waterworks Company until 1901.
