Plautz / Cullen

I am trying to find some information on a "Tina" Plautz. She would have been married to my great uncle "Patrick" Cullen (not sure if their first names were given or nicknames). They had three daughters, Marian, Margaret and Patricia, I believe. Last I heard, Tina moved to Washington before her death sometime in the 80's. I have not been able to find any information on either side. Patrick had a brother, John Joseph Cullen, my grandfather.

Researching August Plautz, and his father Johann Plautz

I am researching August Plautz born July 5, 1851 in Kommern Prussia, Germany. August married Bertha Planert Dec. 24, 1876 in Wisconsin. August's father is Johann Plautz and his mother is Charlotte Plautz. Bertha's parents are Franz and Wilhelmine Planert. I would like any information on the names of siblings of August Plautz or other relatives and information on Johann and Charlotte Plautz, and Franz & Wilhelmine Planert. To the best of my knowledge Johann and Charlotte never came to America. Please email me at dcplautz@yahoo.com

This is him! Walter Plautz Sr. is my grandpa. My dad, Walter Plautz Jr. is his son. I know my dad has one brother and one half brother, but I'm not sure on the details because I don't know either one of them. One lives in Wisconsin and the other lives out west somewhere. I will find out and get you more details if you're interested. My dad's mom's name is Frances. Both of his parents passed away before I was born so I don't know them personally, but I could ask my half-siblings...they are older and probably know more info.

Christine,

I've done alot more research since we last communicated. I have seen your Plautz family in the same area as my Plautz family. Also that the names are similar. However, I have concluded that they were either not related at all or so distant they really had nothing to do with each other. I have extracted alot of social occasions, weddings, deaths, parties, etc. and it seems that these two families did not intermingle at all.

On the 1880 census it states their children as Bertha, John, Hulda, Ernst, Loisa, & Gustavis. I have seen alot in the newspapers for Ernst and Gustav in the Sheboygan Press. It is available on ancestry.com

Let me know if you have any further thoughts on these two families.

Hi there,

My great-grandmother had a sister named Bertha Plautz. I will provide what I know if you'll compare it with your information. Bertha was born August 1877 and immigrated with her parents and sibilings in April of 1883 from Prussia. They arrived in Baltimore, MD. I have a copy of the Ship Manifest from "Germans to America". Bertha married Hermann Will, also of Germany, and it appears they had two children. One child was Paul Will, born 8/3/1897. He was a jeweler.

Margaret Plautz was born in the Wayside/Morrison area. Actually, I believe in Wayside's juristiction, in Brown County, near the Manitowoc Co. line.

I don't have Hermann's birth information in front of me, but I want to say he was born in Maribel (?), or in that general area. I think that is probably in Manitowoc. Again, I may be remembering that all wrong. I'll dig out the file next week and double-check myself. Where is Cooperstown in relation to Wayside?

Caroline (Gerth) Plautz died of a lung ailment, I believe, at the age of 83.

Sue,

I don't have information on an Albert Plautz born in the 1850's, however I do wonder if my Plautz's are related to yours, for several reasons:

1) Mine also lived in Wisconsin, but in the Milwaukee area.

2) My ancestor, Carl Plautz, was born in 1852 or 1853. Perhaps he is your Albert's brother, or cousin. However, harl and his family's ship manifest indicates an immigration date in 1883, so I would assume he wasn't born in the U.S.

3) Several of the names your mentioned exist in my Plautz family. Carl had a son named Albert and a daughter named Bertha. The ship manifest shows a Wilhemine Plautz traveling with them who was old enough to be Carl's mother. Maybe an Aunt? She would have been born around 1819, based on her age at the time. Finally, Carl's wife's name was Augusta (Segebarth).

Any of this make any sense to you?

Wow, now I am really confused!
What I have found so far that I KNOW is my line is....
1900 Census, town of Osceola, Fond du lac County
Plaut, Charles, Head, W, M, Feb 1837, 63, M, Germany, Germany, Germany, 1863, 37, NA, Farm......
His wife is Minna (Wilhelmine Lange according to daughters obituary) born May 1841, 59 years old, F, born in Germany (she had 7 children of which 5 were living as of 1900)
His son is Charles, born Mar 1879, 21 years old born in Wisconsin
His daughter is Emma, born June 1881, 18 years old, born in Wisconsin.

Emma is my husbands grandmother.

In 1880 they were in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County,WI
with children, Edeth (age 13), Sons August (9), Herman (6) and Charles (1).

I have a newspaper clippings on Herman and August lineage and my father in law has personal knowledge of Charles. He says his middle name is for him but he isn't sure if his middle name is Carl or Charles. His birth certificate doesn't say.

Charley was still in Osceola township in 1910 with his wife Amelia and daughters Adelia & Loretta. By 1920 he was in town of Mitchell, Sheboygan County (actually just a couple of miles away) with his wife (now called Emilie), daughter Loretta, son Walter, daughters Viola & Esther. By 1930 they were back in Milwaukee County, Granville township.

There are quite a few mentions of this family in the Sheboygan County Area with the same names arising although they have to be cousins, etc. According to my father in law, this family moved back and forth from Milwaukee County to Sheboygan County and parts of Fond du Lac County.

I truthfully haven't spent much time on them because there are so many and the name variations are complicated. Plaut, Plauts, Plautz, Ploutz, Plout, etc.

If any of these things seem to work out for you, let me know. I'd love to share.

From her obituary in 1925, Bertha Seegebarth Voigt, was born in 1862 in Hohendrosedow, Kreis Greifenberg, Pommern. She married Carl Voigt (my gr-grandfather's brother) and immigrated to the Kossuth County Iowa in 1887. She was the daughter of Ludwig Segebarth and and Dorothea Laabs. My understanding is that Ludwig Segebarth died amd never immigrated but his wife did. She is buried at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in Kossuth County. Her headstone reads "Segebarth", although the descendants that I'm aware all spell the name Seegebarth. I'm unaware of any records available for Hohendrosedow in the US. The church records would have been held at Kirchhagen, which is about the only church in Kreis Greifenberg that have not been microfilmed by the LDS. Segebarth is a reoccurring name in the area. I came across quite a few Segebarth in the Zirkwitz records.

Christine-I looked at your previous questions and my response and see that I don't think I answered you. The Plautz and Segebarth I have connections with, married in on different sides of my Pommen family. I haven't been through a lot of LDS films from Pommern, but the ones I've seen have all been from Kreis Greifenberg. Plautz is not a name I've seen often and Segebarth is a name that appears to be common in some towns and not in others. I do remember seeing a lot of Segebarths in the Zirkwitz church records. My family that I've been able to document immigrated between 1876 and 1887. Have you been able to look in an early church records? The ones I've been through in Iowa and Minnesota often indicate place of birth when new members showed up. All of my grandfather's older brothers and sisters born in Pommern have a place of birth associated with them in the church records.

I know of no relationship, but have the Plautz and Segebarth surnames in my data. "My" families were from the area of Kreis Cammin and Kreis Greifenberg, Pommern. I have two women, who I believe were sisters. In 1842, Maria Sophia Charlotte Plautz married Bernhard Friedrich Ferdinand Fredrich. They had a son, Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Fredrich, born in 1844. Maria Plautz died in 1853. Shortly thereafter, Bernhard Fredrich married Luise Sophia Friederike Plautz. I'm not sure if any of this direct line ever immigrated. The relatives that I know of who did immigrate came to Kossuth County, Iowa; Mower County, Minnesota; and Dane, Jefferson, and Dodge Counties in Wisconsin. The Plautz sisters were the daughters of Joachim Friedrich Plautz of Grambow.

I think we must be working the same line since all the names are familiar, but I can't figure the exact relation.

My Plautz ancestors were Carl (also seemed to go by Charles) Plautz, married to Augusta Segebarth. I have a copy of the ship manifest from their immigration, dated 4/5/1883. Carl was listed as age 30, making him born around 1853. Their was a Wilhemine Plautz travelling with the family who was 64 years old, making her born around 1819.

Carl Plautz and wife Augusta were listed as born in Pomerania, Germany. They had several children, including Bertha, Hermann, Albert (all previous born in Germany), William, Emma Clara, Louise and Anne.

I'd love to connect with you to see if we can find a missing link!
