John L. Mt. Pleasant, 55, of Fredonia, died unexpectedly on Saturday July 18, 2009 in Brooks Memorial Hospital Dunkirk. He was born October 26, 1953 in Niagara Falls NY the son of Howard and Ruby Claire (Wilson) Mt. Pleasant. On August 24, 1991 he married his loving wife of over 17 years Melissa J. (Elliott) Mt. Pleasant. Mr. Mt. Pleasant proudly served in the US Army. He

was a former member of the Lakeside Club and the Fredonia Beaver Club. He liked all sports and was especially fond of the Buffalo Bills and the Buffalo Sabers. He enjoyed taking care of his lawn, and loved listening to Blues Music. He was a long time employee of the Chautauqua County Home where he was the Commissary Steward.
Surviving besides his wife, he was the son in law of Albert and Diane Elliott of Fredonia and Katherine (Kay) Elliott of Jamestown. He was the brother in law to Tina Elliott of Jamestown, Devin, Brian and Erik Robbins of Fredonia. His four brothers Howard (Helen) Mt. Pleasant of Youngstown NY, Larry (Mary Ann) Mt. Pleasant of Niagara Falls NY, Vernon (Judy) Mt. Pleasant of Niagara Falls NY, Jerauld (Cindy) Mt. Pleasant of Ca-

nada, his two sisters Phyllis Patterson of Lewiston NY and Debbie (Brian) Lacher of Niagara Falls survives. His best friends Rick Skubis of Rochester, Paul Bajdas of Arkwright NY, his loving canine companions Teddy and Lola and several nieces and nephews also survive. His parents and a sister Loretta Stone predeceased him.

My mother, Mary Ann, was the daughter of Marie Evans and Marshall Pleasant. She had a brother, Marshall and a sister, Delores. I don't know much about my mother's family, but recall two of her uncles -- Emmett and Bobby, if that helps you at all.

'Page 313, 1247 Silvia (Silviah) Pleasant, marriage bond to John Stallcup January 30, 1801, Caswell County, N.C., she was mentioned as the sister of Micajah in the "old letter" of Rosemary Aiken.' If you can find this book, also read page 303.

Gertie Pleasant married abt 1919 to Hiram Early. Hiram died in August 20, 1921. On December 31, 1921, Gertie married Thomas R. Bryant. Sometime, Abt 1925, She married Samp Huddleston. Gertie died November 17, 1928 in Harlan Co., KY.

Her marriage record, when she married Thomas Bryant, lists her parents as John & Maggie Pleasant.

Hello! I am at a complete dead-end here, and am asking anyone with the surnames PLEASANT/HOBBS/BEACH/HUDDLESTON (unsure of spelling on Pleasant) in their family tree for HELP! My great-grandmother was 'Gertie' (Gertrude ?) Pleasant. I have a confusing history on her, so I will begin with it:

1.) Gertie Pleasant m. David Hobbs (aka) David Allison (?) in approx. 1910 (unsure of this date, family rumor....if marriage date is correct, then my grandfather was born out of wedlock). David Hobbs was killed in coal mining accident in Whitley County, Kentucky in 1914, at the age of 29. I remember my grandfather saying that they lived in Loyall, Harlan County, Kentucky for a while. Could be where they were living at time of David Hobbs' death. They had 3 children that I know of:

My great-grandfather was David Hobbs. It is rumored that his name was actually David Allison, but that he killed a man with the surname of Suggs in some kind of fight in Kentucky, and that he changed his name to Hobbs afterward. David was killed in Kentucky, but my grandfather (His son), was born in Whitville (Name has since changed), Georgia Nov. 1, 1905-1906, and my grandfather spoke of his Grandmother Allison, who helped raise him for a while, in Georgia. My grandfather also spoke of 'the times' they lived in Birmingham, Alabama. The only other information I have on Gertie Pleasant is that she died due to complications from childbirth with the youngest child, Eugene, and that she had a brother and a sister. There could be more siblings, but these are the only ones I know of:
1. 'Kurt' Pleasant m. Betty Cox
(Kurt raised my grandfather,

Richard Frank is my grand farther. My grand mother is Rchard's 2nd wife. I don't have any info about the children from the first marriage I do know that they were 4 children. Frank didn't tell my grandmother that he was married for some time after they were married. I have just started looking for this side of my family.

I'm afraid I don't have much information on Sam. However, I do believe he had a sister. I don't think she had any children. Sam had one son same name as himself -- Sam Jr. who passed away in Chicago in the late 1960's. I will be visiting my mother for the July 4th holiday. I will question her about Laura. I have a Rebecca Alvina Pleasant born in McMann, Tennessee and ended up in Williamson, Illinois. Could there be some connection? I am wondering if the George Pleasant I am seeking for could have been part of this family. He did around 1900 in Missouri.

Rebecca's son was Francis (Frank) Marian Huggins, Dec.22,1879 - June 19, 1959.
He married Sarah Carolina Robinson and they had a son, Buell Dwight Huggins. They are buried in Herrin cemetary in Herrin, Ill.

There is a meeting twice a year near Nacogdoches, TX., near the final resting place of Benjamin Bell. We all meet the last Sat. in May and Oct. We invite all other Pleasants to attend our meeting. Let us know if you are interested so we can add you to the mailing list. We currently have representatives from his children: Munroe, Buford, & Thomas that attend. We share a lot of information, search local cemeteries, courthouses and the Benjamin Bell property. By the way his barn still stands and the current owner will allow you to take a picture or two.
