Am seeking info on my grandmothers family. We have been told that she was born in Yadkinville, N.C. but don't know her parents names. Our family tree is at a standstill without this much needed info. She was born May 29, 1873 and died in April 1960 in Wythe Co., Va. She married James Monroe Turney on Nov. 16, 1892 in Surry Co., N.C. They lived in Stewarts Creek, N.C. for awhile before moving to Va. She may have Melungeon family members. We were told that this was a possibility. Her husbands family were moon shiners and they changed their last names as they moved around to escape prosecution. We have records of them using the last names Kinney, Terney, Turner. Any info on my grandmothers family would be greatly appreciated.
