I am interested in finding any links to Plishka family members who came from the village of Uhryn (near Chortkiw) in Galicia, or Western Ukraine, in the early 1900's. My grandfather, Andrew, settled in Alberta, Canada in approx. 1912. He had an uncle Mykyta, who had already arrived with family, to help him get established.
However, he had other uncles who went directly to the US and settled. On the Ellis Island site, I found Clemons Pliszka, from Uhryn, arriving in New York in 1902, on the "Pennsylvania" from Hamburg. He was 38 years of age. His brother, Josef Pliszka, arrived in 1904, at age 36, on the "Patricia" from Hamburg. Josef travelled with his daughter Anna, who was 8 years old in 1904. I have no idea why some of the family spelt the name with a "z" and others with an "h". Look forward to hearing from anyone who could shed some light on these and other relatives.
