Hi Terry,
I find it a bit strange that Sylvester and Caroline had no children for 10 years between 1892 and 1902.
The infos I have collected for now show 2 different couples:
Abraham Ploof & Caroline Shappy and Sylvester Abraham Ploof (son of Abraham) & Ellen Frances Shappy (sister of Caroline).
Here down, you will find everything I have for now on Abraham descent. Can you provide some documents to justify what you advance ?
Thanks,
Jean-Pierre Plouffe

Essex Boys Saved from Bad Beating.
Crowd Infuriated at Seeing Boys Rob Burning Store - State Troopers' Intervene.
Pursued by an infuriated mob of Essex citizenry, Henry and Dudley Ploof of
that place were saved from possible injury at the hands of the aroused
townsfolk who believed the youths were trying to steal goods from the Ducharme
Novelty shop there while fire and smoke belched forth from the interior early
Friday morning.
The timely arrival of Corporal David Benjamin and Trooper Thomas McMahon upon
the scene probably saved the boys from receiving a severe beating.
During the fire the brothers has been seen to enter the burning building and
to come out with articles concealed in their coats or inner garments.
A crowd of bystanders of about 35 men started pursuing them and suddenly Henry
Ploof turned on his pursuers with a knife in his hand, warning the men,
according to the troopers, not to come a step nearer.
This move on the part of Henry Ploof fanned the flames of fury in the men and
just as they had the two brothers surrounded the troopers arrived upon the
scene and dispersed the crowd, arrainging their prisoners before Justice of
the Peace E. L. Mason at Essex.
The Ploofs pleaded not guilty and demanded a jury trial held Monday when a
jury brought in a verdict of guilty.
Dudley Ploof was sentenced to the Albany Pen for six months and fined $50.
Henry Ploof was fined $50 and sentenced was suspended.9

Three Girls Face Charge of Aiding Army Deserters.
One of Five Escaped Soldiers Still Being Sought by F.B.I.
Three Albany girls, two of them hostesses and the other a waitress, are
awaiting hearing later today before U. S. Commissioner John W. Manning at
Albany on charges of harboring deserters from the Army following escape of
five men Saturday from the detention room at the Military Police Barracks at
the Dayline Pier, Albany.
Arraigned yesterday, the three girls, who listed their addresses as 46 Eagle
Street, Albany, pleaded innocent and were remanded to Albany County Jail in
default of $1,500 bail each.
They are: Virginia Ploof, 18, a restaurant hostess. Laura Jones, 19,
waitress in a South Pearl Street restaurant. Isobel Roggins, 21, a hostess.
F.B.I. men apprehended two of the girls and two of the five soldiers at the
Eagle Street address Sunday afternoon.
An Albany detective arrested the third girl yesterday.
Area police, meanwhile, continued their search for the last of the deserters,
Pvt. Richard Hulett, 20, of Putnam Road, R.F.D., Schenectady.
Soldiers taken into custody at the girls' rooms Sunday were Pvt. Joseph L.
Myers, 27, Bennington, VT, and Pvt. Hauser Becker, 30, Charlottesville,
Schoharie County.
Pvt. Cliffort Shaut, of St. Johnsville, was apprehended in Albany Monday and a
fourth, Pvt. Walter Marshall, 21, of Fort Plain, surrendered to police in that
village Monday.
All five were awaiting arrival of guards to escort them back to their units
when the break was made through a hole in the side of the building.
Fourteen other prisonners made no attempt to escape.12
Three Girls' Sentences Suspended.
Suspended sentences were given in Federal Court at Albany yesterday to three
young Albany women who had pleaded guilty to charges of harboring two
soldiers, escaped from Military Police barracks there January 8, 1944.
Laura Jones Myers, 19, received eigth months suspended sentence and a year's probation.
While free on bail she had married the brother of one of the escaped soldiers
whom she had illegally sheltered.
Federal Judge Stephen W. Brennan gave Isobel A. Roggins, 20, and Virginia Mary
Ploof, 19, sentences of six months, suspended, and placed them on probation
for a year.
Unable to post bail, they had spent 59 days in jail.
Brennan heard the girls' pleas then declared that "you wouldn't want to be
called a traitor yet what you did was against the welfare of your country".

Fourteen other prisonners made no attempt to escape.4
He said his remarks applied to "other young women in this city", and added
that "I want it understood that I am not going to allow young girls to take up
with soldiers in this city and prevent them from substantially performing
their duties".
Joseph L. Myers and Hauser Becker, who fled the Albany Military Police
detention barracks with three others, all apprehended, were the soldiers the
girls were accused of harboring.5
