I'm looking for any info on Alexander Ploof b abt 1823 New York and ended up in Minnesota by 1880. He married Adeline Bacon born 1822 New York. Their son John Ploof is my gggrat grandfather. Adeline ended up in Monroe, Mi where she died in 1910. In 1850 they were in Adams, Jefferson new York. IN 1840. I think Alex could be in St.Lawrence New York. Also, in that same 1840 census there is a William Bacon.

Any info on ALex Ploof and Adeline Bacon would be appreciated

Yes, that is the Moses Ploof I am looking for! Oh wow, finally a break through! What I seem to have been able to determine is that he was born in Canada, around 1833 -1835, that he married Martha Thompson and had My great grandfather Edward Ploof who married Blanche Elizabeth Olcott.

Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Dawn

Do you have any dates(birth, etc) on the Moses Ploof that you are looking for? I have in my family a Moise "Moses" Plouffe/Ploof, first married to Ellen Penfield, and second married to Martha Thompson. He had children from both marriages. If this is the Moses that you are looking for, I can give you the info for him, his parents, brothers sisters, etc.

Our community was shocked Saturday morning to learn that Moses Ploof had been drowned in Knob

pond sometime Friday morning while on a fishing trip.
Mr. Ploof, nearly 80 years old, usually spent one or two nights a week fishing at the pond, returning in the morning with a

large pail of fish.
Friday morning, when he did not reach home at the usual time, the family thought he had not had his usual good luck and was

trying some other water, as he sometimes did.
When he did not appear in the afternoon they became alarmed and his son Fred began a search.
At dark he found his father's boat anchored about 100 feet from shore and in it his fishlines and lantern.
The next morning the body was recovered in about six feet of water.
Coroner Reed viewed the body and rendered a verdict of accidental drowning.
Mr. Ploof is survived by a widow, six sons and four daughters.10
The death of Moses Ploof was to me. and must have been to all former residents of Hammondvllle, a great shook.
In his death a unique character in the life of the now deserted mining camp of Hammondville has been removed, and wherever

the clans of the once famous mining town gather a sigh and "sorrow akin to pain" well up when his death becomes known.
Moses Ploof lived a number of years at what was known as the Coal Job, and for many years was employed by the Crown Point

Iron Company as a stationary engineer and in other lines of work.
He possessed considerable skill as a maker of violins, and many are the former inhabitants of Hammondville who have listened

to the rollicking tunes as played by him on the instrument bearing his brand.
No gathering was complete unless "Moses" was there with his violin.
His death removes the last of the faimous stringed duet that used to play for the dances and other festivities that made the

gatherings in the famed mining camp a great event, his colleague. Mike Welsh, having met a tragic death several months

before.
No towering shaft of granite will mark the resting place of Moses Ploof, for none is needed, for his genial disposition and

his contribution to the life of Hammondville will long be remembered by those who knew him in the halcyon days of the camp.
He too, like the mining camp, is today silent, both are mute witnesses of the past.
While his death to all may seem untimely, yet who can say that having lived out his alloted time it was decreed by the Great

Architect that he should pass away beneath the quit and pellucid waters of Knob Pond, in the shadow of the mountain, and only

a short distance from the scenes of his former activities.
On the hill in the peaceful village of Ironville he sleeps his long sleep and I am sure all ex-Hammondvillers will unite with

me in saying requiescat in peace.
E.
Ginger,

I just read your post about Ploofs, I am looking for information about Moses Ploof. I remember hearing family members say the names of Peter and Martha, but I have no idea how they all fit in. My grandmother and all her siblings are dead and now I am trying to trace our family for my mom who is 70. I'd love to help her get some of these things figured out. Do you have names and dates that I could view? Thanks.

Dawn

Hi Madeline, Sayco, that is Mohawk for Hello.

I am your aunt GIGI. Your mother's youngest sister. I do have some info about our family. It is nice to hear from you. Your Grandmother, Eva was born in a cave (which I have seen) and lived on a houseboat on Lake Champlain in Burlington Vermont. We are Mohawk Indian. Your great Grandmother was Ellen Francis Shappy who was adopted by a white family when her parents were killed. She married Sylvester Abraham Ploof and had 9 children. In fact I have a family tree I am working on in Geni.com. I believe it is under Dever. If you have any further questions I would be happy to help if I have the info. Take care
Yes that is the same John. I didn't know he was married, I found a John in Marquette Mi then I lost him or I couldn't fine him again.
Yes Henry is my Grandfather I just didn't know what he did for a living or what cemetery he was in. Some one wrote said she was divorce I don't know as we had a hard time getting things out of are father. He didn't want us to know the bad stuff.

I don't have marriage of them but I will try and get them. I knew both Jack and Hattie so I know there children. I will get what I know on them as soon as I can.

David and Evelyn [it is I don'tknow where the miss spelling came] are my parents

Yes Roy was married to Rose Koenen he left her in Hancock Michigan. Then he went to Milwaukee and change his name then end up in West Bend Wi and had 7 children and left her but as far as we know he never married again. I don't have his Roy's death either but when we found the kids they told us.Why he was running one he never divorce the frist wife. They said she was sick how should I put with her mind my mother said she thought she was young and foolish. She didn't grow up as fast as some.

Sadie she was married and they moved to New York and had a daughter. I have a picture of them. I have a picture of Jack also and Roy. I don't know if I have any of Hattie I can't believe that I will have to look.

Guess that is all for now Oh for Alexander I have a daughter Madora born 1854, Also Charlie Born 1865 and a David that isn't my father it would be a uncle born 1867
Barb
sorry Thank you so much for the information.
I want to make sure we are talking about the right John since there are so many Johns and Henrys. My John born Aug 1846 was son of Alexander Ploof. He married Caroline Morris. He was a moulder. In 1860 he lived in Marquette, Michigan, 1870 he lived in Clayton, Iowa, and in 1880 lived in Toledo Ohio under (Bloof). He finally settled in Monroe Michigan where he died on 27 Sept 1923.

I have his brother Henry b 1851 New York and died on 25 Nov 1924 Houghton. He married Mary Ann Nichols. I found a Mary Craze (Nichols) in 1880 Marquette Michigan(Widowed) living with her three children Amelia, William and Samuel.

Do you have the marriages to Henry and Mary Ann's children? I have John/Jack married to Mary Wills, I have Hattie married to a Frank Wills, David married to Eveline May Luke and Roy married to Rose Mary Koenen and living in Milwaukee in 1920 with no children.

I don't have Sadie's or Roy's death. Why was Roy running from his family?

Mike

Hello there,

I'm not sure if I e-mailed you or not I probably did. I know that the Ploofs moved to Minnesota sometime after 1860. These Ploof seemd to move everywhere. My John Ploof ended up in Michigan. His sister Eliza Louise married Alex Ringling of the Ringling Bros circus and lived in Wisconsin. I'm still trying to find ther rest of their family.
I tried to e-mail Jean Plouffe on here. He knows eveything about the Ploofs. I waas hoping he could confirm Adelin Bacon for me since I can't find any Bacons living in New York in 1850's.
I don't know how much info you have on Ben. He married Bridget Dricoll. I have 9 children: Anna, William Addie, Hattie, George, Sadie, Elmer, Pearl, Flur. Ben died on 23 Sep 1909 in Hennepin Minn

Hi you are my second cousin. Your dad was a lot of fun when I came up to visit. He and Jackie use to enjoy teasing me. I spent many summers with them. I truly miss them all. Especially Abe and Lil. I remember sitting on the floor of Abe's house and listening to his stories. When he and my mother got together there was so much laughing. Many times my stomach hurt from laughing so hard. Lillian was such a sweet loving lady.

Do you remember seeing the house boat in next yard. It was the houseboat that my mother and Abe grew up in.

Hi, as far as I know, after Abe died Lillian sold the house at 154 1/2 Battery St. She then moved to South Burlington. I don't think the house was any other building.
No...my Mother lost her home after my dad died. The family has fallen apart. It's bad. All photos and home movies were wiped out. I have maybe 3-4 pictures of my dad, no baby pictures, no family pictures at all.

I wrote Jack and I'm hoping he can help with some pictures.

Are you getting my emails?

Last time I was in VT a couple years ago I saw Lenny at Mcdonalds in the mall.

My name is Lisa Ploof (well my maiden name is Ploof) and now it's changed. Loyal was my Dad. I have two older brothers David and Loyal. They still live in the Burlington area and I moved to Texas not long after my father died.

I don't remember ever seeing the boat. I heard about it. I wish I had a chance to see it.

Grandma Lillian moved to a little house off Shelburne Road (Lyman avenue) and then sold that place in 1995? possibly. She moved over to the mobile home park in Colchester and stayed there until she passed away.

I heard a lot of great stories about my grandfather. He dies two days after my birth and is the one responsible for naming me Lisa. He actually died on my brother Loyal's birthday in 78.

Debbie,

I remember you. I'm not sure if you remember me all that well. I was only 9-10 then...I'm 30 years old now.

I think the last time I saw you was on Intervale Avenue. Irene babysat me most summers so I remember her well. Tina used to french braid my hair when it was long.

We'll have to chat soon. I'm online all day at work M-F...hence the reason I reply so fast.

My mom isn't doing so hot. I'm hoping things improve soon.

I wonder what ever happened to the boats.

I've e-mailed you twice now...not sure if you're getting my emails.
