I kmow that the same Jack Ploss you have mentioned in your posting lives in North Central Florida. I think he lives around lake city or lake butler. I saw him on tv during the bad fires a couple years ago. He was a volunteer fireman.

Caroline Wilcox Ploss I also have married to Henry Ploss. Henry was born in 1790 and died on November 17, 1854. Caroline was born in 1787 in Hartford, CT and died on May 23, 1877 in Otsego County, NY and both Henry and Caroline are burried in Jasper, NY in Village Cemetery in Steuben County. I have a photo, black and white, taken by my husband's grandmother of their grave markers if you are interested. I have also located someone who has a Caroline Wilcox Ploss in his family but we have not been able to prove that they are one in the same though it seems obvious. I also have Caroline and Henry's children's information: Sabra Eliza Ploss (1828-1905), Joel Ploss (supposed to have died at age 13), Simeon Harlow Ploss (1822-1884), Lucy Ploss, Betsy Ploss, Phoebe Ploss (supposedly died at age 21) and Mary Ploss (supposed to have died at age 5). I have concentrated on my line which is Sabra Eliza Ploss. Let me know if I can be of any further help.

Caroline Wilcox Ploss died May 23, 1877 and is buried at the Jasper Village Cemetery in Jasper, NY, Steuben County. I'm working on Caroline again so let me know if you have anything new.
Pauline Ploss, Asch Austria to Phila. m. Wunderlich

I'm reaching out a bit far here..... but I am looking for Pauline Ploss's family - they may have migrated from Asch, Austria into Phila approx. 1882. Pauline married Adolph Adam Wunderlich and had a son named Gustav Adolph Wunderlich * 6 Feb. 1898 who lived at 508 Collingdale Ave. in Collingdale PA. which is just outside of Phila. This Gustav Adolph Wunderlich is probably cousin to my great grandfather Friederick Wunderlich. Asch Austria was a border town of far east Bavaria now located just inside the Czech. border and the town name has changed to As. Most of my family on Dad's side came from this town. Gus Wunderlich and his address was written in grandmother's cookbook along with all her other family members - so he must be family. Any clues? nkaufman@wt.net
Thanks!

I am married to Don, Kens oldest son. I would like the names of Lenoras' father and mother if you have them, and also if you know the name of Ken's father. He had said his mothers' name was Lenora Silvernail Spears at one time, but not what his father's first name was. I did talk to Sheldon and sent Chuck a note to see if he knew, but we have been out of touch living down in Florida the last 16 years, used to go out to Sheldons' a lot and Chuck used to come over, I have met your Dad, Frank a few times, I know Don used to call him Red. Any help you could give me, I would really appreciate. Thanks. Gail

Hi Adrianne. The Simeon Harlow Ploss that I have in my database was born in 1822, died in 1884, and is buried in Jasper village cemetery, Steuben co.NY. The one you sent info on with the Civil War enlistment can't be the same Simeon as it gives his age as 21 at enlistment in 1861 which makes him born 1840 ish. Don't know who this fellow is. Sorry.
I am replying to yourposted message of 11 March 2002 re Henry Ploss. Barbara Jefferies, in her Linck genealogy has Henry Blass of Sharon obituary as follows:
Henry Blass of Sharon (Died) 7 July 1813, was survived by his wife Eve (Linck)..... I have Henrich Plass, bpt.24 Apr 1748
(Germantown Ref. Ch.) as the son of Johann Wilhelm Plass and Magdalena Muller. He married Eva Linck, bpt. 4 June 1754. Henry had a brother William Plass, bpt. 25 May 1760.
Could this be the William Ploss who went to Chautauqua County and who was listed in the 1830 census as being between 70 and 80 years of age ?
Hi. My name is Denis Plasse. Effectively, Catherine was the daughter of Peter Plass(Ploss) and Marie-Anne Lefort, a french Canadian. They were living in Sorel, Quebec where I
live myself. Peter and Marie-Anne are my ancesters. I don' t
have a lot of information about Catherine because she left
Sorel for Dunham close to the USA border with his husband
John Burhart (or Burkart in the Anglican Christ Church registries of Sorel). I had contact with Jann Callaghan Cullen
who is also a descendant of Catherine. Can be reach in the
"genealogy.com" forum. Good luck.
Dpl.

Caroline and her husband Henry Ploss are burried in the Jasper Village Cemetery on State Route 36 at the junction with State road 417. I have old photos of their markers. I am trying to link her to another researcher's information on a Caroline Wilcox Ploss born to Simeon Wilcox and Phebe Kelsey. Too many things match for it to not be the correct Caroline but I don't have "proof".

Caroline Wilcox Ploss & Henry Ploss

Can anyone link Caroline Wilcox Ploss who died in Steuben Co., NY and married Henry Ploss who died 1854 in Schoharie Co., NY to the Caroline Wilcox daughter of Simeon Wilcox and Phebe Kelsey? Caroline Wilcox, daughter of Simeon Wilcox and Phebe Kelsy has siblings of Sabra, Nathan, Experience, Phebe, Sybil, Jonathan, Oziel, Caroline, Joel, Martha, Henry and Dan where Caroline Wilcox Ploss has children named Sabra, Joel Simeon Lucy, Betsy, Phoebe and Marge. They should be one in the same since both are known to have been born in CT. Caroline Wilcox Ploss was born in 1787 where Caroline Wilcox was baptized May 23, 1790 in Killingworth Congregational Church, Killingworth, CT. If these two are one in the same person then: 1) she named a daughter Sabra, born 1828 after her eldest sister who died before 1816; 2) She named a son, Joel, born 1814, after a brother Joel who died in 1805; 3) She named a son Simeon, born 1822, after her father who died in 1821; 4) She named a daughter Lucy after her father's first wife Lucretia who died in 1777 or possibly after a brother Oziel's wife Lucy Leete Wilcox; 5) She named a child Phoebe after a sibling Phebe who probably died in childhood. There are too many similarities for this to not be the same person but to gain years of information I have to find proof. Any help out there???? BRICK WALL!!

Laura,
I have recently learned that the mother of William, Catherine, James, Peter and Moses Ploss was Anna Butler, born in Dutchess County, and baptized 8 Jan 1764 as the daughter of Jacobus (James) Butler and Gertrude Jacobi
(Linlithgo Reformed Churchbook).
Anna was also the mother of Henry Ploss, born 8 Jan 1796 in Columbia County, and baptized at Germantown Reformed Church as the son of William Ploss and Anna Butler. Henry's baptismal sponsors were his aunt and uncle,Henry Blass of Sharon in Schoharie County and His wife, Eva Linck.
Charles
Kristen,
You wrote:
What I have on Sabra Eliza Ploss and Samuel Gaius Sturt is the following:
Sabra Eliza Ploss (7/10/1828-24/11/1905)
born Otsego Co., NY and died McKenney, VA
married in Otsego Co., NY in 1856? 1857?

[[Sabra was born October 7, 1828 and died November 24, 1905 -- according to her tombstone -- somehow your numbers are reversed.]]

Samuel Gaius Sturt (2/10/1820-5/6/1880)
born E. Hoatley (Hothin?), Sussex Co., England died in McKenney, VA

[[SGS was born October 2, 1820 and died June 5, 1880]] He and Sabra are buried in the Family Cemetery on the Sturt Farm near McKenney, Virginia. SGS, SR was from East Hoathly, Sussex, England.

Another factor which I find interesting is that he somehow managed to avoid fighting in the Civil War completely. Was he a Quaker before he relocated to VA? Knowing the family, I'm sure it was because of their religion..whatever it was at the time.
At the time of their move to Virginia, their children were older -- not infants -- his son SGS, Jr. was born in 1867 in NY. I don't know the date the family relocated. I do know that a Daniel Defandorf family relocated from NY to Washington, DC or Northern VA when the Sturts moved. However, SGS, JR. married in 1909 and I was told he was 40 years old when he married Lillie F. Miles. Daniel Defandorf was a witness at marriage ceremony of SGS, JR. If my math and the inscription on his tombstone are correct, he was age 42...which is a little old to get married for the first time...agree?
Fran

STURT

Someone has started a rumor or has bad genealogical data. Samuel Gaius Sturt (1st) supposedly arrived in NYC and traveled via boat/ship to upstate NY where he met and married Sabra Eliza Ploss. Why he decided to go that direction is a good question -- he must have already known people that lived there. Maybe they were family friends from England. The oral family history I have heard is that SGS went to the terminal to board a ship for Australia and it had already departed and the next one that was leaving was going to the States -- so he took it.
I have heard that SGS was related to Charles Sturt the famous Australian explorer, but I don't have any documentation to prove that. Does anyone know anything about Charles Sturt's genealogy?..the Australian children learn about him in school -- he was their "Lewis and Clark" and made many original maps etc.
Fran

Adrienne - You mentioned Caroline having a brother, do you know his name? I'm still working on linking "my" Caroline to another researcher's Caroline. They should be one in the same but as of yet I can't prove it. The married names are even the same...Caroline Wilcox Ploss. To contact me directly, if you've lost my e-mail address, it's thinkaboutit@att.net. Look forward to re-addressing Caroline.
Kristen
