Mary Catherine Plumlee, 84, a resident of Los Alamos, NM, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 1998 at her daughter, Deidre's home following a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Plumlee in 1992. Mrs. Plumlee was born in Vancouver, WA on December 24, 1913 to Rose (McLaughlin) Hassell and Knute Hassell. Mrs. Plumlee married Dean Plumlee on December 13, 1941. She was a radio dispatcher for San Juan Communications in Farmington, NM and also worked as a night auditor for 22 years at the Los Alamos Inn in Los Alamos, NM. Mrs. Plumlee was a volunteer for the Civil Air Patrol in the 1950's. She is survived by her two daughters, Deidre A. Plumlee, Kay Dean Plumlee, both of Los Alamos, NM; sister, Helen Francis Russell of Grandbury, TX; nephews and nieces, Jerry Arthur Russell and wife, Laura of Arlington, TX, Mike Plumlee and wife, Tina, Landon Plumlee, Fredda Fay Plumlee and Patrick Plumlee, all of Odessa, TX; great-nephew, Ron Russell and wife, Becky of Arlington, TX; great-niece, Michelle Russell Maxfield and husband, Brad of Euless, TX; great-great-nephew, Cole Russell Maxfield of Euless, TX; and numerous other nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and other relatives and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Service of Los Alamos, NM. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, May 14, 1998 at Block-Salazar Mortuary Chapel. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 15, 1998 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Los Alamos with interment following at Guaje Pines Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Block-Salazar Mortuary, 1-505-753-2288 or 1-800-443-4854.
