I am looking into my family tree and am trying to find details on my Father's (James Robert Stokes) half sister (Sheila Alice Pohl). All I know about Sheila is that she was born in 1919, I believe in South Africa. She had a Sister (OLga Diana Pohl b. 1920). Her mother (Ellen Susan Jane Berry) remarries in 1929 to an Albert Stokes in Southampton, England. My father is also born that same year.
I know that she marries a Canadian, at around WWII or soon after(!). They then move to Canada, and believe they had 5 Children. This is all I know, I do not know her married name or where the lived in Canada.

Any light that can be shed on this would be most appreciated.

My Aunt Katherine Pfaff m. Herman Pohl w. 2 child.(Herman Jr moved to CA, and Erna married a Sisk and also moved to CA) "Kate" b. Freudenthal, S. Russia(now Ukraine)near Odessa. Parents and family immigrated to S.Dak. 1908. She met Herman Pohl in SD,(he was from Germany according to my father)and m. before 1920 according to census. More on Herman Senior not known. Katherine's parents were Heinrich Andreas Pfaff (Henry A., b. 8 May 1869 Freudenthal, d. summer of 1964/5 SD) and Elizabeth Dupper (b. 1861 Freudenthal, d. ? SD). Henry was the youngest and only surviving son of Andreas Pfaff (according to www.remmick.org/Pfaff.Genealogy)who was the 13th child of Johann William Pfaff who was the sixth child of Johann Michael Pfaff and Sybilla. Johann Michael was the son of Johann Phillip who was the son of Conrad Pfaff b.~1711 Winweiller, Pfalz, Holy Roman Empire (Germany). Earlier ancestors, the Pfannkuchen and Closs families date back to the early 1600's. Elizabeth/Elisabetha dau. of Peter Dupper (b.~1848) and Katherine Christmann. According to family stories, Elizabeth's older brother, Fredrick Dupper was sent to Siberia for his part in the Black Sea Fleet Mutiny/ Odessa Uprising of ~1905. I am still working on sorting out the Duppers and Christmanns. Aunt Kate was the eldest of 11 children. My father, Heinrich Pieter (Henry Peter) was the 8th child. So, Herman Jr. and Erna were my cousins. Do you have any more info on them?

My Gt Grandfather was Franz Pohl born in Selesia, Germany and married Bertha in 1872. Franz came to England and was named in the 1881 Census, but Bertha was not with him. I am trying to find where they were married and Bertha's maiden name. I think they were probably married in Germany.

passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2011.
He was 81. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janet; and their four children, David, of Memphis, Tenn., Nancy, of Reynoldsville, Douglas, of Girard, and Susan, of Centerville, Va. Bob was born Oct. 4, 1929, in Troy Hill. He grew up playing his horn in local dance bands in and around Pittsburgh until his love of music took him to Indiana State Teachers College. Sligo High School gave him his first teaching job and it was where he met his love, Janet. They were married Jan. 30, 1954. Bob taught Instrumental Music in Jacksonville, Fla., Erie, Brockway and Sagertown, for many years before starting a new career with the Federal Department of Aviation as an air traffic controller. Bob and Jan enjoyed traveling around the world and around the block, always exploring and making new friends. They visited Alaska, Japan, England, Spain, Malta and more, but especially enjoyed mentoring a "People to People" trip to Australia for high school students. They moved from their home in Brookville to the Woodlands at St. Barnabas in 2004. Visiting hours for friends will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the McDONALD-AEBERLI FUNERAL HOME, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars. Services for the family will be Monday in Sligo. Interment will be in the Sligo Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the American Lung Association or to the charity of your choice.

Hi, My Grandmother married Fredric Pohl in Nebraska (? I think, or maybe Nevada) in 1920, her name is Leora Henderson (Grandma Le to me) she divorced my grandfather before I was born so I never meet the man. I have tried searching all the databases for him and aside from a cryptic note in the family bible stating he was from Germany (Stadheime – there is NO Stadheime in Germany, there IS one in Norway though???) I have not been able to find him.

Anyone who has ANY information I would be grateful, as I have no idea where to go from here…

Might your tree include Elizabeth BECKMAN, b. 1857 in St Louis, marr. Conrad E LAUFF in 1882, and d. 1917 in St Louis? Their daughter Florence LAUFF marr. George Washington POHL. This is the line that I am researching.

My line of Boeckmann's came from Germany in 1839: Conrad and Clara Wellenkamp Boeckmann. Do you have any information on Conrad's family? Born about 1801 or 1808.

I know this line has got to be somewhere in my family tree. For to this date members of the my Pohl family still reside in Red Wing, MN. The names all seem familiar. My grandmother Irene married Edward Pohl and many are buried in Glenwood City. Line in Canada. She said that she has a about 40 pages of information on the Pohl line that was compiled by my Uncle
Carl Pohl who did extensive research on the Pohls. Much came from his relations who are all gone now, but were living during the time that he was compiling. So there should be a lot of new information available. I am anxiously waiting for arrival of the pages. If you are interested in any of the information, let me know any names

I know nothing more of the Prussian history of the Pohl family other than what was in my original message.
The descendants of Otto Ernst remained here in England, my husband Michael (Flynn) being one of them.
Some of Otto's Pohl descendants lived in the Liverpool/Wallasey area of the UK.

I have a Grandfather named Carl Bernard Cristof Pohl who I believe was from Prussia, or Germany. He had a brother named Ernst, and a sister named Martha, or Margaret. I don't have much info, but Carl emigrated to Canada then the
U. S. sometime in the early 1910's. Ernst also came about the same time. The sister stayed, and ended up behind the wall in Germany after the 2nd world war. I don't have much more information at this time, but am just starting. But this may correspond with some of your info. Let me know,

Hello, It may only be a coincidence, but I have a grandfather named Carl Bernard Cristof Pohl. He had a brother named Ernst, who also came to the U. S. and a sister who was named either Margaret or Martha, who stayed

researching POHL from Leutmannsdorf. My grandfather, Otto Pohl, born in Leutmannsdorf 09 Jan 1905.
We know don't know anything more than his brother Gustav Joseph Pohl was born 21 May 1888 in Hirschberg.
They both immigrated to USA and both were bakers.

Today Leutmannsdorf is Lutomia, Poland
& Hirschberg is Jelenia Gora, Poland

My wife's sister has visited in Germany several times and she mentions three towns: Hirschberg, Dittersbach and Hohenwiese.

The first I have is Reinhardt Pohl coming around 1880. His father was Carl Pohl.

Do those towns ring a bell?

Hi Lovely to hear from you. the Pohl ancestors belong to my husband but I will tell all I know about Ernst Otto Pohl.
He was born in Koningsburg, (now Kaliningrad) Prussia, his Mother Emma was born in 1814 Danzig (now Gdansk) Prussia, as was his sister Margaret Elizabeth born <1836>.
Otto came to England in <1861> and married Jane Agnes Banton in Liverpool in 1864 and their children were, Samuel b ?, Marion b 1866 L'pool, Frederick b 1868 L'pool, Simon b 1869 Birkenhead, Moritz b 1869 B'head, Eva b 1870 B'head, Daniel b <1875> Over, Winsford, Cheshire, Felix Bernard b 1876 L'pool and Arabella Margarite (My husband's Grandmother) b 1880 In L'pool.
The only child we know of that crossed the Atlantic was Felix Bernard but where he ended up we don't know.

My deceased wife's grandfather was Reinhardt Pohl. He immigrated alone in 1880 to Evansville, Indiana. He was from a part of Germany that is now Poland. Do you from where your family came?

it's Jane again- My uncle, Kenneth Pohl was killed in WWIi, and my other uncle, Jack still lives in Michigan City. My aunt Carol Pohl (Snyder), who was their sister, died years ago from cancer.
