Last summer several genealogists within this surname group began a DNA study project expecting that all
the participants would be be related to each other, sharing a common genetic background. Such has not
proven to be the case.

The first six participants in the DNA study have been proven to come from three distinct genetic
backgrounds. One line is Anglo-Saxon in heritage. The second appears to be Roman in heritage and the
third is German.

All six participants bear Pontius or Pontius variant surnames. One line comes from Nicholas Pontius the
ancestor of many PFA members.
