I know Samuel is not Thomas's son. I spring from Samuel's son Martin; his son Jonathan; his son John his son Daniel Shobe, his son Alfred Lorenzo David and his daughter Gladys Josephine, She married Frank Hayes, they had three children Robert, Roy and Lois. Lois Married Warden Shuman and had 5 children including me.

Samuel was not his only child. He had 5 sons and 7 daughters.His 3rd son,John,had a son Samuel, who ha ason Martin,he hada son Jonathan, whohad a son John,who had a son Daniel Shobe Poling wha had a son Alfred Lorenzo David Poling, who had adaughter Gladys Josephine Poling, who had adaughter LoisMaxine,who had me.

KEOSAUQUA - Arthur M. Poling, 98, of rural Keosauqua, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at Wapello Nursing and Care Center in Wapello, where he lived since Dec. 7, 1994.

Services will be at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua. The Rev. Chris Hinkle of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wapello will officiate.

Burial will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Cantril.

Memorials may be made to the Keosauqua United Methodist Church.

Mr. Poling was born Jan. 12, 1902, near Mount Sterling, the son of Marion and Louella Mankin Poling. He married Etta O. Morris on Feb. 18, 1928, at the Methodist parsonage in Keosauqua. She died Dec. 25, 1984. He lived on the same farm between Pittsburg and Lebanon in Van Buren County for over 60 years. He was a Methodist and had been active in various community endeavors over the years.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Cecile Hodges of Wapello; two grandsons, Michael Arthur Hodges and his wife, Joan, of Wapello and James David Hodges and his wife, Kathy, of Keosauqua; two great-grandsons, Robert David and Michael Benjamin Hodges; a great-granddaughter, Stephanie Kirsten Hodges; a step great-grandson, Peter Dale and his wife, Kirsten, and two step great great-granddaughters, Monica Rose and Alicia Dale.

He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, James L. Hodges; three brothers, Otto, Harley and Roy Poling; and five sisters, Zoe Wolfe, Virgle Randolph, Zella Shipley and Hazel and Edith Poling.

I went to your website and sent you a message from there. It does look like there is a connection from Peter Poling b 1743 --that is if the rootsweb family tree listing Wheeler Poling is correct. I just started doing a little searching last night so I have not sent for or looked for any proofs. The only thing that I have looked at is census records and what is on the web.

I found a record of the marriage for Wheeler C. Poling age 24 go Orie E. Ferguson age 18 on December 25, 1900, in Tucker WV.

Need info on Wheeler POLING family. 1910, 1920, and 1930 census puts them in Alleghany County Maryland.

Ora's younger sister appears to be Minnie Stickley and I believe their maiden name was Ferguson.

Wheeler and Ora's children appear to be:

Looking in particular for anyone who has info on Russell POLING born about April, May, June of 1917 (guess on birthday) we believe that he died in Ohio. Cennsus records list him as being born in Maryland -- guessing Alleghany County. We believe that he married Mary Liller and later divorced and remarried. We know nothing about him after his marriage to Mary -- really do not know much about that marriage -- still looking for marriage certificate.

Catherine Polan and Elizabeth Poling

I am looking for information on the parents of both of these women who might have been sisters. I have information on their marriages, children, etc. but nothing about their parents.
Catherine Polan married Phillip Sheets, lived temporarily in Fairfield County, Ohio, then moved to Mercer County, Ohio. Phillip died and Catherine remarried to Edward Kelly in Mercer County, Ohio.
Elizabeth Poling was Edward Kelly's first wife. We have family story that Edward's wives were sisters. I have not been able to find any information connecting them in any way. Both women married in the late 1840's and early 1850's. Each had several children.

It might have been a clerk or census taker who misspelled it.and it just was repeated after that.I've seen it happen many times with many names.

yea i do its not on line, and i checked your site out and i see you only have it back to john poling wife mary i believe that that is correct but when i see people who have thomas a johns father there are not auctal facts to support this that i know of, my line goes john,samuel,peter,william,martin,sanford,emerson,noel sr, noel, craig thats me.

My great grandfather, Vercil Glenn Poling and great-great grandfather Tunis Emory Poling were from Barbour County, WV.
I am not sure if this is the same Poling line or not though. If it is do you have any information. I am trying to start my tree.
