My Afr-Amer. gggg-grandfather Hamilton Polite was born in 1848-1852 in FL or GA. He married Sylvia Gibbs in 1848, died in 1943, in Suwannee county, FL. His large family lived in Live Oak. One of their children was Sam Polite, my ggg-grandfather. His grandaughter was my grandmother, Inez Polite Jones. All are deceased.

If anyone has any info about this family, please contact me.

I am a cousin of yours. I have posted Polite family information on Ancestry.com with the Oklahoma Homestead Picture of Richard Hamilton Polite, Susan Amanda his wife, and their children Pearl, Hattie, and Richard. Those pics are now on line. I was in Guthrie from CA for the 1907 reenactments and parade. Sorry we did not connect prior to meet there. You still have cousins living there, my parents and my aunt all descendents of Richard Hamilton Polite.

Susan Amanda Hamilton Polite is buried in Summit View Cemetery in Guthrie. Why Richard (my great great grandfather) is buried in Missouri is a mystery. Do you have any family info on that? Please contact me to share info or photos if you want. You responded to my brothers email several years ago but I'm not sure if you connected. He lives in Guthrie as well.

I have recently discovered that I am a Polite descendant. My family was around Gordon county, GA.

My 3g grandfather was William B. Polite b: 1845

His daughter Lucy Polite McClure b: 1871 was my 2g grandmother

My Father was Richard Polite Jr., My grandfather was Richard Polite also. When my grandfather passed in 1933 His widow my grandmother Marie E. Polite relocated from Georgia (near Savannah to Harlem USA. My father had tow sisters, Gertrude Jenkins who has three now grown children and Paditha Jones who has six grown children. My father was the last of his generation.

Karen, I am the great-grandaughter of Richard Hamilton Polite, the Oklahoma Landrunner. He was married to Amanda Susan Hamilton, He died in Guthrie, Oklahoma ca l9l4 and is buried in Amsterdam, Missouri. Our family has been celebrating Oklahoma's l00th birthday and I went to Guthrie to watch re-enactment of l907 parade, etc. Was wonderful.

Are you still working on Polite Geneaology. Have you gotten past Delaware? Richard's Father was born in l801 and is the brother of your Robert. Would love to hear of any updates.

By the way, Richard Hamilton Polite was a member of the Odd Fellows group. Wonder if Robert was? I am in the process of trying to find Richard on a list either in Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri or Ohio. Do you have any ideas?

I just found that my great Aunt is May Polite (VanSalisbury) and her husband is Andrew Florence Polite who was a sherif for Morris Plains NJ and they had a son Edward Andrew who was born 13 Jun 1921 and died in Orlando Fl Oct 1 1989. My mother used to spend summers with the family.

Hello i am an direct descendant from the Polite Family. Although this may be the lineage through slavery. My grandfather was Prince William Polite Sr. he was born in Sylvester,GA. I was searching for the lineage as through past slave owners with this name. I know this sounds strange, but slaves took on the last names of their owners, so to find my history, i would have to find our origin by locating where we came from. So if any help could be given i would greatly appreciate this. Thank you

I am the Granddaughter of Orvin Eugene ( Charlie ) Polite,
My mothers name is Sharon K. Polite nad I have a Aunt Name Bobbie and a Uncle Name Richard ( Ricky) Polite.
I know very little about the Polite side and would love to know more, I did know Aunt Lou, in which her real name was Ota L. Polite, she was a great lady, in which I do miss her , she would sing and play the Piano, and Gultiar upside down cause she was left handed. I believe your Richard Polite may have been the son of Richard Polite and Nancy Bruvington/Brewington who were married in Pickaway County, Ohio. I think Richard Polite is very likely a brother to my g-g-grandfather Robert Polite.

Hattie Polite Dyar was my great Aunt! She visited us many times in Tulsa, OK....my father was her nephew, Richard "Dick" Polite who married A. Lois Hill....I was one of their five children: Loretta, Marilyn, PHyllis, Donna (me) and my younger brother, Richard Hamilton, II (Dick).

Fred's father, Richard Hamilton Polite, was in the Oklahoma Land Run in l889. (He would be your Great Great Grandfather.....and settled in Guthrie. Your Grandfather, Eugene (Charlie) and my Daddy, Richard Hamilton, were born in Guthrie, also.

my just surfing on and it has been a year since I searched this site. So you are related to a George Polite. So am I. Do you have family members that live in Illinois. You stated that you attended a reunion in florida for the Hooker polite in 1981 well I live in florida.Our next reunion will be in 2003. so what about yours. Richard Hamilton Polite, born in Scott Co. Ohio March 25, 1847. Came to Oklahoma in 1889 and settled in the township of Meridian/Bear Creek area. He married Susan Amanda Polite, believed to be in Illinois before the run and they moved to Larned, Pawnee Co., KS. at some point where Harriet "Hattie" Iva Polite was born Feb. 2, 1888 and was 1 years old in the run of 1889.
I have Richard Polite July 24, 1800 married to Nancy Brewington born June 11, 1805. Not sure about that however, Hattie was my Great Grandmother. If you want to know more send me and email

Still doing research on my Farris family line. Desperately looking for burial of Catherine Polite Farris. Daughter of Robert Polite. She married Gilbert Harmon Farris 2 May 1854. Catherine died 1886 or 1887. Pension file shows affadavits handwritten by her children stating she died near Buffalo, Wilson County, Kansas. Conflicting dates: 9 Dec. 1887 or 21 Dec. 1886.

Need to find her obituary or at least where she is buried. She is not in the plot next to Gilbert in Idaho. All info points to a burial in Kansas.
