Parents of William Polk (m. Margaret Taylor) ?

Surnames: Polk, Taylor, Tasker, Knox, Alexander
I come from William Polk(b. ~1705 White Hall, MD) & Margaret Taylor's daughter Susannah (m. Benjamin Alexander). I've read some debate about who exactly this William belongs to. Is he really in the Robert Polk/Magdalen Tasker line, son of William (b. 1664 Ireland) & Nancy Knox Owen? I've looked through the board here and haven't see it overtly discussed before. Some of the information I've seen online is dated, so I'm not sure where the debate stands. Is there any new light/consensus on the subject?
