I am also researching Pollock's. Particularly a Thomas Pollock who married a Catherine Collis or harvey. There son John C. Pollock resided in Lambton County, Bosquanet. There were two Pollock families in that area. As far as I know they were not related, but not proven. This Thomas Pollock was born ca. 1811. That is about all I have.

Jon

William Pollock born Paisley, Scotland, 1812

I am looking for any descendants of William Pollock (b.1812)and Ellen/Helen/Elinor Watson (b.1810), who immigrated to Canada from Scotland in the 1830's or 1840's. They settled in what is now southwestern Ontario and they are buried there in Winterbourne Presbyterian Cemetery in Woolwich Township in Waterloo Region. I am a great-great-granddaughter of theirs; one of their grandsons, William Arthur Pollock, was my grandfather. I know that he had two brothers (one of whom went to live in Detroit, U.S.A., and was still there in the 1930's) and two sisters, but I have no information about where their descendants may be now. Their grave marker says that it was "erected by the family", but it was not my branch of the family, and I have no information as to when it was erected.
If anyone has any information that may be connected to these people, please post a reply.

Hi, I recently visited Abbeville, SC where my GGG grandfather(Thomas Thomson) lived and died. I'd be very interested to know anything else you know of the history. I've got pictures of his grave and his wife and some children as well if you'd like to see. He named a couple children that didn't end up surviving for long Ninian as well. It really was beautiful. rqw97b@yahoo.com

The Pollocks in the bible came from Monaghan,Ireland to Scotland about 1840, then came to the U.S. about 1857. There are Pollocks mentioned in the bible that I have not been able to trace. They were from Rensselaer County, New York from listings in the bible and also came from Scotland from place names mentioned in the bible.

Hello,
I know your message is a few years old, are you still researching the Pollock family ?
I know that my Samuel Pollock (aren't there enough of them ?) married a Mary Ann Russell. They lived for a few years in Mercer Co. Illinois, then moved to Canada and then back to Iowa (Benton Co area).
I have allot of questions about this family. I can prove facts from census records etc. Canada is another story though. Still educating myself on that.
Please reply if you are still interested, I would love to hear more about the family.
KARON
honeyandsage@yahoo.com

I have just started on the Pollock family. Traced it back so far to Samuel b: 1823 who married Mary Ann Russell, b: 1824. Almost completed the lines down from there (not bad for a couple of weeks work).
Any information anyone could give as to the parents of Samuel would be very much appreciated.
Pollock is my husbands mothers family.
KARON
honeyandsageyahoo.com

P.S. Whatever happened to the bible ? Curiosity has gotten the better of me.

Have a great day and look forward to hearing from another Pollock researcher.

James Leon Pollock was my great grandfather. He worked for Levi Strauss and I am able to find him in San Francisco, up to and including the 1900 census. My mother's story about his disapearance was that while on his way to deliver monies from Levi-Strauss, he was killed and the money disappeared. A body was pulled from the bay a few weeks later badly decomposed and they assumed it to be him. I have not verified this.
His wife Isabelle (my mothers grandmother), also worked for Levi-Strauss as a seamstress and died when her clothes, which had cleaning fluid on them, caught fire from the stove after returning from work.(James 'Leon' worked as a clerk for Levi, as noted in a listing in the 1890 SF City Directory pg 1077, (he is listed as Pollack, Leon)).
I am interested in any other information you may have.
What is your relation to James Leon Pollock?

Hi Maxine,

Thanks for your response. That's really odd; the dates and names match but not the place of death nor the children. I'm certain William Pollock (1757-1846) is in my line but if he wasn't the son of your William than I may have received incorrect information.
Thanks

You know the Scottish Pollock name is really common in many of the communities between Belfast and Derry in Northern Ireland. My guess is that your gggggrandfather and mine were probably cousins or some relation, since many did take the journey to Canada. Our task is to prove it. My family through Thomas and Henry believes that our roots go back to the Limavady / Colerane / Bally area. So who knows.

Yes I would appreciate receiving your link and password to what you have compiled. I as well can share with you.

I, too, am researching Pollocks of N. Ireland.

I know that my great-great-grandfather was John Pollock from Ballymena, Ireland. He emigrated to Canada in 1846 or 1847 (family records are conflicting) with at least one brother, William, and their mother. John settled in Kincardine Township, Ontario, Canada. He married Jane Thomson and they had 14 children. Much of the family still lives in Kincardine.

He may have been a cobbler, or apprenticed to one, as he made 12 pair of shoes, in exchange for a farm (or so family documents claim)- Concession A, Lot 41, Huron Township, Bruce County, Ontario, Canada.
Since I don't know the precise year of emigration from Ireland, I am finding it hard to trace siblings and other branches of the family.

My grandfather had "cousins" in Ripley, but there has been no contact with them in quite some time. We're not quite sure how they fir in to the clan, or maybe they were from a separate branch. There are some Pollocks in Ripley, Ont, who are of Swiss Huguenot stock (my cousin [father's sister's son] is currently dating one).
Any info regarding John Pollock of Ballymena, Ireland would be greatly appreciated. Also any info on descendants of William or other siblings would also be of great assistance.

If you wish to view my Ancestry.com family tree, email me and I will grant you viewing privileges. Maybe we'll find a shared twig or leaf on the tree.
I found your message on the message board. I hve just started doing my tree on my grandfathers side. I do not have much. My grandfather Robert Pollock died in 1983 and I never knew much about his side. His father was Samuel Pollck and his mother was Christina Muir. They came from Scotland through Canada to the United states. My great grandparents children were Robert (my grandfather born 1911 married Edna Silvers), Samuel, who stayed in Ireland and did not come to United States,Christina,Margaret,Agnes,Mary,Janet<(who they called Jesse, Elizabeth (who they called Lizzie) This is all I know on my Pollock side. If anyone knows anything about this family I would be very grateful.
B.J.Sutton

Caroline Pollok Magennis reading letter from POW son Bud

aroline Pollok Magennis was a very special person in the Magennis family as I am sure seh wa in the Pollok family- her Father being Ernest Pollok and Mother Olive Atwood. I came into the posssession of this lost treasure my aunt dearly parted with this week and I will share this newspaper article with you. It appeared in the Grand Rapids Press March 23, 1944. Title: A prisioner tells the story.

Their son Charles Byron Magennis jr was a prisoner of war in Germany. they had not heard about his capture or where he was for several months before these letters staarted. He sent letters to his parents via the American Red Cross. This is his story.
Mrs C. B. Magennis sr. reads a letter from her son Lt. C.B. Magennis jr., a prisoner in Germany in which he praises the Red Cross for its work. In the background are photographs of Lt. Magennis and another son Robert seaman first class in the coast guard school at Baltimore.
A Prisoner tells the Story.

The Red Cross prisoner of war service means more to Mrs. C.B. Magennis, 141 Knapp st. N.E. than to many other contributors to the Kent County Red Cross campaign for $359.000.00,

To her it means that her son, Lt. C.B. Magennis jr, is receiving a food pacel every week with holesome american food in it. It also means messages to her son, and replies from him as well as guidance for her on what things may be sent to the prisoner of war German prison camp.

Gets package each week
.Lt. Magennis was captured when his plane was disabled on a raid over Germany last summer (1943). In his first letter from Germany, he said, since my first stay here inGermany was a surprise, I am not totally prepared. I forgot to bring my pajamas. My next letter to you should contain a return address. the red Cross. an institution which is not widely enough appreciated, can give you details on how and what you can send me. shaving equipment, socks, underwear, a tooth brush or two, a pipe aand tobacco would come in handy, Perhaps a pencil or two would facilitate writing. Send nothing until you hear from me again.

Ib abitger ketter, written from stalag Luff 3, the German prisoner of war camp located about 90 miles southeast of Berlin, he wrote, "Our life here is not half bad. Officers are divided into groups of four to six men and we do our own cooking. Most of the food comes in Red Cross parcels, of which each man gets each week. The parcel contains two cans of some kind of meat, coca, coffee, tea, a little sugar, cheese, hard crackers and some jam and butter. He then attempted to tell what was supplied by the Germans but the lines were blotted out by the censor who left only the word "oatmeal"
Other reports from Germany indicate that potatoes and other root vewgatables are teh staple foods supplied by the Germans.
Cites Increased need
In later letters Lt. Magennis tells of attempts by the prrisoners to organize recreation and musical entertainment. It is evident that weeks and months of confinement have somewhat changed his earlier estimation of ife in a prison camp but throughout his letters e had continued to express appreciation for Red Cross services.
John D Hibbard, general chairman of te Kent county campaign pointed out the demoralizing effect
news of a Red Cross campaign would have on prisoners of war as well as men on the fighting fronts who depend on the Red Cross to investigate conditions at home, provide recreation, set up clubs where they can spenda furlough, furnish blood plasma for battlement life saving and furnish bandages for Army and Navy hospitals.

Iva M Zimmerman Pollok

I have found a site on www.ancestry.com Lamb Stevenson that has baby picture of Iva Zimmerman whose Mother was a Lamb. Many interesting pictures on this site. I see more resemblance of her children looking like the lamb side of the family than the Pollok side as I once thought. A few pictures of Annie lamb. I added this imnformation on my Pollok program.

Hi, John Boileau (b.7/10/1780) was my great, great, great, great grandfather (there must be an easier way to say that). Do you have any other news on Margaret Pollock or the Boileau lineage before John?
