He does not appear in the records of the German Coast of Louisiana until after 1770. Where he came from and who his parents were ia a mystery. Yes, there was a Jacques David dit Pontife on one record will appear as Jacques Pontife-David on another.A Certifirate of Death St. Joseph's Church Thibodaux,La. shows he died July 14,1832.In the Lafourche Parish courthouse: Probate Record-1827 the inventory of the property of Charles Pontif and his deceased wife Catherine Hockman who died in Lafourche Parish on April 1,1827 at 6 a.m.Augustin"Justin"Pontiff was the 14 child of Charles and Catherine Pontiff.Justin listed his birth date as 1790 on census records.
