She was my great- grandmother her parents names were Charles and Harriet her grandparents names were Truman Lanton Pooler and his wife was Sarah ann (rose) Pooler and Sam and Elizabeth Sprague. Sarah Ann parents were french and lived oswego, NY. She had a sister in oswego and her oldest brother was a french sea captain who could not speak english. He owned a block of land around Wall street. Sarah ann married Truman L pooler a young man of english -irish-scotch desent. His parents came to america from england. The young couple moved from ny, to ohio then after several years to Millersburg Iowsa where their thrid son Charles and his twin sister Emily were born Feb. 27 1854. They next moved to Kansas territory and settled near the eastern borders but raids and threats by pro-slavery mobs forced them to move west near junction city then to Abilene. As other settlers crowded in they moved on ahead to Mitchell County and homesteaded about three and a half miles southwest of Beloit south of the river to have water and grazing for their herds of cattle and sheep. This was in 1871. On Feb. 8 1876 Charles married HArries Sprague.
Many years before this two brothers named Sprague came by ship from Wales across the Atlantic to Rhode Island where one of them settled and became wealthy. The other one took passage on a boat bound for New Orleans. From there he worked his way up the river as far as Ketucky whre he met and married a red head Irish girl who became the mother of Sam Sprague. He grew up and crossed the river into Illionis where he met and married Elizabeth Roe. Among her children was Harriet born 1-23-1857 in or near Crawfordsville. Later they moved across the line into Indiana.At the age of 16 Harriet came to Kansas with her parents and other children they settled in Asherville. SHe married Charles Poller 2-8-1876 and lived with his parents.they moved to lincoln county but mived back to Beloit where they raised Arthur charles 4-4-1881 to 11-27-1939 Truman Ora 10-29-1883 to 10-13-1945 Emma Pearl 9-28-1885 to 1972 Herbert harmon 11-12-1887 to 11-12-1887 to11-27-1937 Elizabeth Alice 9-28-1895-7-17-1950 louis glenn 2-28-1901 - unknown. The mother HArriet Sprague Pooler died 10-5-1917 the father Charles pooler died 10-27 1937. They are buried in Elmwood cemetery at Beloit Kansas. Grandpartents Truman and Sarah are buried in a country graveyard west of their homestead 5-7 miles wet of beloit sounth of the solmon river and west o fpooler creek also known as indian creek. Grandpa Sprague a civil war veteran is buried in the southwest part of elmwood cemetery at beloit. Grandma Sprague is buried in wichita Kansas cementry where some of her kids are buried. Arthur is buried in elmwood at beloit truman wwI lieutenat is buried in the V.F.W. section in Emporia Kansas Emma pear at lyndon Kansas Heberet at Colorado springs Elizabeth alice in lincoln nebraska. Richard Duane 9-14-1920 to 8-16-1922 Helen 2-8-1922 Frederick Archie 6-13-1924 Mary Evelyn 7-31-1925 - 1999 Willma arlene 9-26-1926- 1999 Everett Glenn 1-8-1928- 1976 rosalie alice 6-23-1929 james martin 1-27-1931. This was written by my great aunt emma pear and I found it recently.
