Can anyone, anywhere, make a connection between Poolman families in England and Poolman families in the Netherlands in earlier centuries? I understand that the Poolman name has its origins in the Netherlands. Any imput into this subject would be very welcome.

I am searching for info on a man named Poolman who was living with Samuel Cooper and his family in Granby, Oswego, NY in 1850. It appears there was also a Louise Poolman, Caroline Poolman and Charles Poolman also there. Any help would be appreciated.

Poolman - Dutch for "man from Poland"?

Found this nugget on an internet site for explaining name origins:

"Pooler is likely an Anglicized spelling of the German Pfuhler, or a variation
of the English surname Pool. Pfuhler is the Germanic version of Pool, which is
a place name that described the man who lived by a pool of water, or pond.

Among the Dutch, Pool is an ethnic name that described the man from Poland.

English variations are Poole, Poolman, Polman . Cognates are Pfuhl, Pfuhlmann,
Pfuhler (German); Pohl, Pohlmann, Puhlmann, Puhl, Pohler (Low German); Van de
Poel, Van der Poel, Peolman (Flemish/Dutch)."

Anyone out there able to confirm the Dutch-Polish connection?

Tom Maas
(Grandmother was a Dutch Poolman)
