Later in the 18th century due to repressions by Katherine the 2nd, molokans were forced to occupy a small region in the Tavriya Step, near city if Zaporozchye Ukraine.
Looking for anyone tracing their ancestry to those regions, particularly carrying the same last name - Popov.

Dear Nancy,

I am also looking for info on the surname of Popov/off. There is (or was) a village in n. eastern Bulgaria with that name - Popov.

And so I have heard many Bulgarians settled in the Lerinsko area in Macedonia.

The name Popoff, I´ve heard is the OLD Macedonian spelling in which ..actually is Bulgarian — must be some connection there somehow. Today I believe the spelling would be Popovski or such.

My grand-mother Maria was born in B(o)uf Macedonia in 1910, but after the Balkan War the village is NOW located in Greece and is called Akrita. It ´s not far from the town of Florina, Greece (Before Lerin, Macedonia) and there´s where my father was born in 1949.

Our family is also supposively related to the Popoffs (and the Velianoffs and the Opashinoffs ..from that same area.)

If anyone has any info please don´t hesitate contacting me.

- mïa

John,

I am Mike Kashirsky's daughter. Anna Kashirsky was my dad's older sister, and of course that would make her my aunt. Actually I use to visit her sometimes in Vista.

You can contact me if you would like. I have been doing research since 1994. Kind of hard to get Russian heritage information, but I do have some.
