Andreas Popp, Paul Popp, Johann Popp, Katherine Popp and Eva Popp

I have recently located information regarding my great grandfather Andreas Popp, age 32 at the time. He and his "believed" siblings,Paul, age 28,Johann,age 15,Katherine,age 22 and Eva,age 25, all arrived in the US on 5 Sept 1882, landing in Castle Garden, New York, on the ship Neckar, from Bremen. I was wondering if any other Popp families out there have verified direct lines back to any of these individuals, and if so, do you have any research back further into their Popp family in Germany

Did Henry adopt Harry and Howard Grissom or were they foster children? Do you have any other information on Henry and Zorada Popp or their daughters? Their daughters names were Myrtle and Ella.

There are a number of Popps in this area. George Popp might be related to Elisabeth. She came alone in about 1874. I have to check the dates, but why she came to this area is a mystery. She might have known her future husband (my great grandfather) in Germany, but we have no information about that. This might be a link. I have the ship's passenger list with her name. There is a family in Middletown by the name of Popp. I believe they have a farm. At least they sell honey and the people who sell it (Butterfield's Market) said they have a farm. Do you have any further information about George?

Nancy Humbach

My mother was a Popp, born to George and Helena in Sharon, PA. George's real name was Papdanko but was changed when applied for work in America. He was born 1885 in Austria-Hungary and came to PA about 1907 from Sid, Hungary. He married Helena before sailing here. I know he had brothers Janko born 1883, Mihailo (1888) and Andrija (1893) and a sister Juliana (1886). I found Ellis Island records that Janko, Mirko and Andrija came to America but have never heard anything about them. Not sure if they returned to Europer or stayed in America. Since the name was changed to Popp or Papp (some used Poppe), wondering if some of his lost family could be from one of your lines?

He was born 1885 in Austria-Hungary and came to PA about 1907 from Sid, Hungary. He married Helena before sailing here. I know he had brothers Janko born 1883, Mihailo (1888) and Andrija (1893) and a sister Juliana (1886). I found Ellis Island records that Janko, Mirko and Andrija came to America but have never heard anything about them. Not sure if they returned to Europer or stayed in America. Since the name was changed to Popp or Papp (some used Poppe), wondering if some of his lost family could be from one of your lines?

Elizabeth Keller Popp, mother of John Popp, 1912-1999, was my first cousin, twice removed. Elizabeth's mother was Gertrude Hemmert. Gertrude had three sisters. Luzia Hemmert married John Philippi, my great-grandfather. After Lucy died, John married her sister Margaretha Hemmert, who was my great-grandmother. Their sister Otillia Hemmert married Henry Philippi, brother of John. I have extensive information on the Hemmert descendants that I am willing to share with anyone who is interested.
Dan Schroeder Gancho3@msn.com

The town of Belotin's phone book is listing Bardon, Bartonik, Bartos, Bartosik, Bednarkova (female),Bena, Biskup, Blaha and Bus. http://phone.quick.cz The Olomoucky obvod/ Olomouc region is listing Bila, Bilach, Bilanek, Bilcik, Bilek, Bilik, Bilka, Bill, Bilos, Bily.

Chrissy

Was your ancestor naturalized citizen or had social security numbers? http://ssdi.rootweb.com
If not naturalized but lived pass 1940 than there is an Alien Registration Form to request. (in USA). Have you any other paper with different spelling?
The CZ's phone site had an English version but the format was changed this Thursday and it does not have a British flag symbol for English.
In the Olomoucky obvod/ Olomouc region there is a BIL, BILIK, BILCIK, bilanek in Prerov, BILL, BILOS, and BILSKA. You will need to hire a researcher or go to the archive in CZ yourself. You might want to send a letter to the BILANEK living in Prerov.
In city of Praha's phone book a BILINA, BILINCOVA (female) and BILINSKI.
Looking further in the phone book there is a similar sounding name to your (mis)spelling BILINEC.
