Nadine, Priscilla and I are 1/2 first cousins. Priscilla's father was Fred John Poppin, my father's 1/2 brother. Dad is still alive and will be 91 in August. He would be your half great granduncle. We are 1/2 first cousins, twice removed. Dad is the sole surviving Poppin uncle.

I need some updates on Priscilla's tree. Allen got married.

My home email is heisable2@comcast. net.

I can send you a writeup about Fred that Dad wrote. Dad wrote his autobiography, but little was written about Grandfather's other family. I can send you what I have and even the family tree if you like. I also have some pictures.

I'll be 'talking' to you soon.

My great grandmother, Mary Applegate, formerly Mary Holopoff, is in this article. Please tell me everything you know. Dimensia has taken over, and I want to try to talk to her about her life. It appears that some one else is also looking up info about her, perhaps a distant relative of mine. I would appreciate getting in touch with that person. Please let me know asap! Thank you. I am also very interested in her birth, which, according to her, took place on the ship, Esperanza, which is her middle name, from Russia to America. Please let me know if there is any more info abou this!

I am puzzled as to whether or not the Molokans are part of my family ancestry. I am researching "Gindin" "Ginden" and "Treguboff", "Treehuboff", "Drihuboff".
The key is that these relatives were Jewish. Please let me know if your group includes Jews. My relatives emmigrated from Russia/Ukraine (Kiev). Came to the US around approximately 1915. I may want to include my search with the Molokan '07 project. Please let me know if my Jewish ancestry would be appropriate for your project. Thank you, Eileen

LAST CHANCE - Molokan Summer 2007 Genealogy Project

Mr. Vlad Soshnikov from Moscow is meeting with me in San Francisco at the end of this month (May 2007) to discuss his summer research trip to the Kars/Trans-Caucasus region including the Yerevan and Baku Archives where many documents on Molokan families are maintained. Please contact me immediately at billiamcpa@aol.com if you are interested in having Mr. Soshnikov research your Molokan roots. So far, I have received genealogy records from two interested participants, but I would like to see more participation to make this more affordable for those involved since we will be sharing the cost.

For more information about Mr. Soshnikov and the proposed research project, please read Mr. Soshnikov's message below.

Sincerely,
Bill Kisseloff-McCulloch

Vlad Soshnikov's message to interested participants:

Thank you for your interest in the Yerevan & Baku research trip which I plan to complete in the coming summer together with my fellow university historian and genealogist Dmitry Panov. We have been cooperating on behalf of American genealogists for many years since 1991, when the Russian-American Genealogical Archival Service was established with offices in Moscow and Washington, DC. It was a joint venture of the Russian State Committee for the Archives and the U.S. National Archives. I was the director from the Russian side since 1994 and visited the U.S. frequently for numerous genealogical conventions, etc. Nowadays we are independent genealogical researchers providing expert services in Russian and other ex-USSR archives.

In the summer of 2006, in cooperation with Yerevan archivists, we discovered and got copies of numerous historical records regarding the Kiselev and other Molokan families for the years 1860-1904. It makes us sure that upon further research in the same record groups we will discover more information in Yerevan and Baku archives regarding other Molokan families. In the future, we hope to trace those families back to the places of their origin in central provinces of Russia as far as in the early 1800s and 1700s.

As for records to be researched. These are official census records (so called Cameral records and Revision lists) and lists of villages and resettlers from the records groups of Tsar's governors and tax offices. Offical tax records show whole families for a certain year (for example, The Cameral records of 1860). List of settlers usually show only men. However, there are many details about how and where they moved in the process of resettlement. It gives lots of details for a family history: a saga of the Tsar protestants' expulsions, explorations and searches of better life.

The law of Imperial Russia required every major denomination to keep birth, death and marriage records for annual report to the Ministry of the Interiour. However, for such groups of rural protestants as the Molokans,
there was no system for collection of such records. Therefore, in most cases there are no such records in the archives.

As for visiting the villages outside of Yerevan. Yes, it is possible to do for us during the research trip to Yerevan archives. Upon a visit, we can make a detailed report from a historian's point of view about what is there now, illustrated with professional quality photographs. I have done such visits and photographs on behalf of many U.S. clients in cities and villages in Ukraine, Belarus and various regions fo Russia. Samples and references may be provided upon request.

I look forward to your further interest in research and photo trips. Hope to make a progress for your family history.

Best regards,

Vlad Soshnikov
Historian/Archivist in cooperation with Roots-In-Russia (Washington, D.C.)

Hello,

Before I go into a lot of detail, I'd like to verify that you received this message since you posting dates back to 2002. I believe we have mutual relatives...Shubin and Romanoff connected to the Bolotins, Sarokins and Prohoroffs. My grandmother's cousin (a Bolotin) mentioned that her family used to visit a relative by the name of Nick Romanoff.

Hope to hear from you.

Bill

Hi Sue,

Thank you for your kind response. I was hoping you could help me with our Romanoff connection. My grandmother was a Bolotin, and her cousin Anna Rothwell (nee Bolotin) recently wrote to me:

"My friend, Lou Romanoff, is married to Aunt Delmatoff's son. I know we are related to the Romanoff's, but don't know how. We used to visit Nick Romanoff's family often."

It would be great to find the family connection. I've pieced together a good deal of our ancestry, but I no absolutely nothing about the Romanoff connection. As far as I know, the names connected to Bolotin are:

Desatoff, Kareshnika, Agalzoff, Delmatoff, Kunikoff, Sarokin, Shubin, Pavloff and Prohoroff.

Incidentally, my birth name is William Kisseloff. My sister and I were legally adopted by our stepfather after our father's death in 1973.

Thanks,

Bill

Full name, parents names, grandparents names. Email me direct at StubbornSue@AOL.com to keep it private if you like. I'll ask my husband and father in-law if they recognize the names. If not, Annie Zolnekoff (who can be reached at the heritage room/library at the UMCA grounds in Hacienda Hts) will be able to piece this together. My Grandfather is Dave Shubin, (remember Shubins Store?) he just turned 88 and has a memory like a steel trap. If there were LA people he knew them and can give you history too. Let me know.
~Sue

Hi Nancy. Thanks for writing. I need to ask you about The Russian Molokan religion. I am not familiar with it since my ancestors are Jewish. My grandparents names were Rose and Samuel Gindin.
Rose came from Russia, maybe Kiev. Rose left from the port of Riga, Latvia for the US around 1913 or so with her parents, Yespe and Israel Tregiboff. (His naturalization papers say Drihubon). I think there was a problem with translation. But you mentioned a Triguboff in your family list. I have not utilized Family Tree Maker yet so I can just make a list for you if you think, after reviewing my notes, that their may be a relation. Thanks again. :) Eileen
Hi Nancy,

My name is Carol Carpoff-Lang; I ran into your information on the Poppin Family and it looks like we're related! My family also lived in San Francisco...on Wisconsin Street. My Grandparents came from Kars, I believe to San Francisco. I don't know alot about my ancestry, so any info you have would be greatly appreciated. I'll also share with you what info I have. My Grandparents' names were Matvia and Tatiana Carpoff; it seems a lot of Russian families lived in Petrero Hill. I have other info if you would like...any questions let me know! Thanks Carol

Good morning. sorry for the delay in the post. I was completing grad school and went on vacation. I have included this board as part of my notifications.

Yes, I have information about this family. I have also been corresponding with your cousin who has been working on this line. I emailed her with the picture you posted and hope she responds to your post.

My email is heisable@mindspring.com. If you send me the information you have, I can check my files, do an update and lookup some of the unknowns. I have access to the indexes and may be able to find more information.

My grandparents lived on Potrero Hill at 879 Rhode Island Street.

Let's keep in touch.

I emailed your post and picture to several Molokan researchers who may be able to identify the faces. I also included my father who grew up on The Hill. He's 85 and lives in SF.

Sincerely,
Nancy Poppin Posey

Have you checked out the Molokan message board?

Attached is a picture of my grandmother, Anna Slepnikoff and her church ladies at the Molokan Church in S.F. Anna is the third person from the left on the top row. I do know another name which I cannot spell, but sounds like this: "Taut Masha Kobsoff". She is the lady in the second row from the bottom, and the second from the left. Taut Masha I believe was Anna's friend, not a relative. I have no idea when this picture was taken, but I'm thinking it's in the late 20's or early 30's.

I am Nancy Ann, grandaughter to Anna & John Slepnikoff, daughter of Nancy (Nellie) Slepnikoff who lived at 955 Carolina Street (at 22nd Street) in S.F. My uncles were: Michael, George, Johnny, Peter & Billy. My aunt was Vera. Would love to have any info about this family -- especially Billy who was married to Pearl, but divorced. They had 3 children, Alan, Cathy and Sandy. Also, George, who married Ruth. They also had 3 children, Jimmy, Linda and George Jr. These two families moved to San Mateo or Los Angeles area I believe, however, I'm not sure. I have lost contact with them for many years. I can furnish info for all the others. In advance, thank you for any information you can furnish.

That particular surname is also spelled PAVLOFF.

Were they from the Los Angeles or San Francisco Molokan congregation? There is also a congregation in Arizona, Sheridan and other parts of the LA area

Alice, the Molokan people intermarried amongst their clan and it wasn't unusual to marry a second cousin. I don't believe we are direct cousins; however, woven amongst all of the Molokan names, there is a relationship somewhere. I'll be happy to share any information I have with you. I have Eropkin information and Botieff information. These families are intertwined.

Alice, I looked further and pieced together some information. I found your mother HOBAUGH.
Do you have an uncle Bill who married Katherine Alex Kornoff? I don't know when or where he was born. They had a dtr Karen William Abakumoff who married William John Eropkin. I have information about his great grandparents Eropkin/Semikoff.

I sure could use the birth, death and marriage dates of your grandparents. That would fill in missing information.

Thank you.
Nancy Poppin Posey

Hi Nancy. Your posts are amazing! I am searching for relatives with the last name of Treguboff. They also go by
Treehuboff, Triguboff, Drihubon. I have my great grandfather's, Israel's boat papers on which he signed his name Drihubon. Of course the name was missed in translation. My grandmother was Rose and her brothers were: Abe, Harry, Leon, Samuel. My grandmother also went by the name Rone and Leon by the name Lieb. They setttled in Chicago around 1915 or so. My father remembers an uncle, Morris, or Moishe, settling in Kansas and another uncle, maybe Froiyum
settling in San Fransicso where he started a Floral business.
There was a brother left in Russia that we were told escaped to China. He went on to Toyko and then to Australia. I have found Triguboff's in Sydney, Australia. Do you know the name of the city in Russia where your Treguboff relatives came from? You seem to have a wealth of information. I am new to this so any information you can pass my way is appreciated.
Also, how did you find those marriage and death indexes?
Thanks so much. Hope to hear from you soon. Eileen Gindin Spiegel.
PS: according to: www.jewsofchina.org The Triguboff family emigrated to Israel from Tianjin China in the 1950's. Father's name was Moishe and the mother was Frida. Both are burried in Tel Aviv. They had two sons Joe and Harry. Joe died young
and is burried in Australia and Harry is "the 4th richest person" in Sydney! He is owner of a real estate company called Meriton. Alex Triguboff, who once lived in Toyko died.
I have posted this information on a Bulletin Board of
"Igud Yozei Sin"
Also, how did you get your own message board?

Hi....I don't have anything in my file for that particular family; although I do have other Pivaroff names.

I noticed you also made a post to the Russian Molokan board. Hopefully you will get a better response.

The name was shortened from Pivovaroff

Nancy

Hi....I have lots of information about that family. It depends on who they are. A good place to start would be the Russian Molokan Message Board at http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=an&p=t...

Post your message and you will get replys from several interest Molokan researchers as well as possible family members.

Please let me know who your grandparents are. That is a good start.

Bye for now............Nancy Poppin Posey

I'm not familiar with using message boards. I just ran across your message while seaching the internet for any information on my mother's side of the family. Her maiden name was Paveloff. Her Mom, Gania, and Dad, William I believe, were also from Kars and came to the US about 1905. Can you or anyone else give me more info? Thank you. I appreciate it. They were also of the Molokan church. Can you give me info on that? Thanks so much.

Pat English
Ketchikan, Alaska
