YOUNGSTOWN –Lawrence M. Poracky, 82, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010 at home.
A lifetime resident of the area, Lawrence was born in Youngstown, Ohio Jan. 2, 1928, a son of John and Mary Kikta Poracky.
A graduate of East High School, he was the producer and director of the Slovak Hour on WKTL Radio through the 1970s. He also worked as a carpenter for Ace Lumber, retiring in 1990, after more than 20 years of service.
Lawrence was a member of Sokols Branch 17 and of Jednota.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his three sisters, Elizabeth Poracky, who died as an infant, Sophie David and Margaret Pavlicko; and by his seven brothers, John, Joseph, Michael, Stephen, Paul, Andrew and Francis Poracky.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, the former Eleanor Dudick, whom he married Oct. 23, 1948; his sons, Larry (Angelita) Poracky Jr. of Boardman, Ohio and Thomas Poracky of Wayne City, Illinois; his grandchildren, Jason, Joshua, Amanda and Brandon Poracky and Rebecca Young; his great-grandchildren, Marcel, Jordan, Kailey, Amelia and Mason Poracky and Abigail Grace and Caleb Joel Young; and his step great-grandchildren, Alicia, Karissa and Isaiah Young.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthias Church, 10:15 a.m.,
Friends may call at the church Thursday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., one hour before the Mass.
Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Kubina-Yuhasz Funeral Home in Boardman, Ohio.
