in 1759 two jewish brothers start a porcelain painting-
and backing factory in Amsterdam. They used the original Chinese porcelain and painted over glaze.
In 1811, when all Dutch had to adapt a 'proper' family name they choose: "Porcelijn(painter)".
Some later descendants, Alexander (b. 17-3-1851) emigrated to Boston (1868?). A quiry at the Office of Vital Statistics Mass. in1946 failed to show any entry under the name of Porcelyn. However it was found that a Henry A. Porcelain, son of Alexander and Maria - both born in Holland, and who's father's occupation was cigar maker, then resided at 1757 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston. Mass.
Anyone more info on the back ground of the Porcelain's?
