Porta is indeed Hungarian. From Romania (then Hungary), Transylvania. I seem to be the last of my line. According to my father, our ancestors were Huns. A small group of people currently living in Romania trace their lineage back this far (forgot what the group is called). Anyway, accidentally saw your post. My grandfather was John Porta. Don't know if he had any siblings. My father (Joseph) never told me.

While at the library copying obits for someone, I managed to get a copy of the following obit. I am in no way related to this person, but wanted to post it in case it is helpful to someone.

PORTA - Frank Porta died yesterday morning at the state infirmary, Tewksbury after a short illness, aged 39 years. He is survived by his wife, Maria Porta. The body was removed to the rooms of Undertakers M. H. McDonough Sons.

I am searching for former employees of Broadway Metals in Gardena,California in the late 1960's or early 1970's who may have known my aunt,Rose Aragon.
Aunt Rose was born in New Mexico in 1943 and passed away in Lakewood,California in 1999.
She was married to Bruce Porta(who passed away in 1990 also in Lakewood)and had a daughter named Linda who went by Aunt Rose's maiden name of Aragon until she was around twelve years old and was adopted by her step-father,Bruce Porta.

My family is originally from the Felizzano area. My line is Bongiovanni / Giribaldi and Platone / Poggio.
The Porta family are cousins in Italy which I am just learning about.
Pasquale Platone b.abt. 1842 m. Angela Migliara b.abt.1844.
Their two surviving children were Carlos Maurizio Platone b.1888 in Felizzano and a sister named Teresa Platone.
Teresa Platone married Guisseppe Denicola
They had 3 children: Angelina, Abramo, & Guisseppe.
Angelina married Guisseppe Porta.
Angelina and Guisseppe had 2 daughters.
Maria Teresa (deceased) who had a son. He would be in his 30s now.
The other daughter is alive today. She is in her 60s. She was a ballerina. She had no children.
I am writting this to find out if it helps or connects to other researchers. Does any of this fit with the Portas that you know?

I was told by my grandmother that my last
name was not my real one. Apparently,
during some war in Germany the Mainards
moved to Austria and changed their name to
Porta so not to be caught and blend in better.
From there they spread out...to italy, spain..
and to Argentina, where I was born. I think
I'm the fourth or fifth generation of Porta's
to be born in Argentina..the other two/three
were my dad, Daniel Hector Porta, my grandad,
"Coco" Porta, and my great-grandad, Juan Porta.
I don't know much else...but if this sounds
