You may find my information helpful as many of my ancestors settled in MA, NH, NY areas. My earliest ancestor found is John Porter of Dorset, England who settled in Hingham, Mass. Here's what I have so far: Forgive me for any incomplete names and dates:
John Porter (b.1591-d. Sept. 6, 1676) born in Dorset (Dorchester), England came to U.S. in 1635 to settle in Hingham, Mass. He sailed in the ship “Susan and Ellen†with his wife Mary, March 20, 1635 from Weymouth, England. He was granted a house lot Sept. 1, 1637 in Hingham, MA on what was later East Street. They moved in 1646 to Salem Village, Mass. (now Danvers) The house lot in Hingham was probably one of the original thirty lots for homes, close together for protection from the Indians and not far from the Old Meeting House, and here he probably built his first dwelling on this side of the ocean. John Porter of Dorset may have been a brother of Richard Porter, who settled in Weymouth, MA in 1635.
