The Descendants of Peter Porter, an Emigrant of 1621, was published by Argus of Miinneapolis, 1937, and is probably out of print. You should be able to get a copy on InterLibrary Loan, which I did from the SD State Historical Library. If you want the "real thing," I have no idea where you might get a copy.
The records haven't been found to prove the ancestry of Nancy HANKS. Her family was moving around on the frontier. Gary Boyd ROBERTS' Ancestry of American Presidents gives two theories. As listed by Dr. WARREN:
Abraham LINCOLN (12 Feb. 1809, Hardin, now Larue Co., KY - 15 Par. 1865, Washington, DC).
Nancy HANKS (5 F 1784, Campbell Co., VA - 5 Oct. 1818, Gentryville, Spencer Co., IN) m. 12 Je. 1806, Beechland, Washington Co., KY, at the home of Richard BERRY, Thomas LINCOLN (5/6? Jan. 1778, now Rockingham Co., VA - 17 Jan. 1851, Janesville, Coles Co., IL).
James HANKS, m. 1783, Mecklenbg., NC, Lucy SHIPLEY (ca. 1765, VA - 1825) who m2. 3 Apr. 1791, Henry SPARROW.
Joseph HANKS (20 Dec. 1725 - will pr. 14 May 1793, Nelson Co., KY) & Anne LEE ca. 1728, died VA, d/o Wm. LEE.
probably Luke HANKS, d. Lancaster Co., VA, ca. Feb. 1757.
Lucy SHIPLEY was dau/o Robert SHIPLEY, bpt. 19 Oct. 1713, Christ Church, Ellicott City, MD, m. MD, Sarah DORSEY (ancestry?)
Robert SHIPLEY, (ca. 1678, St. Anne's, AA, MD - will pr. 9 Mar. 1763)
Adam SHIPLEY & Lois [HOWARD?]
Bulletin of the Lincoln Natl. Life Foundation, Ft. Wayne, IN, 31 July 1933, has an article by Dr. Douis A. WARREN that says Robert SHIPLEY in 1765 purchased a tract in the part of Lunenburg Co. that later became Bedford Co. He sold part in 1767 & on 30 Apr.1771, sold the rest to Daniel MITCHELL. The HANKS family followed the same migratory path to Kentucky. There's a similar article by Dr. WARREN in Indiana Magazine of History, Sept. 1933, 29:3.
