John Porter - who came to ALEDO in 1862 and was a partner in the publishing of the Aledo Record until it was consolidated with the Aledo Times in 1895 under the name of Times-Record, died at his home in that place October 17, 1900, at the age of 81 years. He was born in Ireland and came to this country when a boy and learned the printer's trade in Ohio. He was for a while editor of the Cleveland Leader, and had as his colleagues there Joseph Medill, later of the Chicago Tribune, and D. R. Locke, later famous as Petroleum V. Nasby.
