Porter related to Simeon Hamilton Moore, Mercer Co.,PA

Anyone researching Porter family from Mercer Co.,PA have any connection to below :

Hi...

I need some advise. My gr-gr-grand father SIMEON MOORE HAMILTON born
about 1836 - 38 in Mercer Co. I've tracked from 1860 census until his
death in 1920's
in Mercer Co. But, I could not can not find him in the 1850 census for any
county in PA. All records of him state he was born in PA. By chance I ran
just
his first name on Ancestry.com for PA. and in the 1850 Delaware, Mercer
Co.,
PA. census I found a SIMEON MOORE born 1836 in PA. Any idea's as to how I
could
found out if his parents died and he was adopted by a local HAMILTON
family. Or his mother re-married.
On All of SIMEON's records he always uses MOORE as his middle name. Or if
anyone on this list is researching the MOORE family from Mercer Co.could
you contact me

Then I received this lead : from Janice Eby Barbeau who is researching the
David Porter family from Mercer Co., PA.

Norm,
Simeon Hamilton Moore was the son of James Moore. Listed in the 1860
Census, Hamburg PO, Delaware Township, Mercer County, PA. He was 24 at the
time.
He was also the brother of my, Charlotte Moore, who married David Porter.
They were listed in the same household with James Moore. Still working on
this
family.

I can not find any info on SIMEON before the 1860 census. Nothing that I
have list his parents or brothers or sisters.
Even his Civil War service records do not list his parents. Nor does his
death obit from 1927 in Fredonia, Mercer Co., PA.

I'm starting to think that SIMEON maybe a MOORE. And that he either used
his mother's maiden name of Hamilton ? or
she re-married ? But I can't find her either, except a Nancy Moore listed
with a James Moore in the 1850 census in Mercer Co., PA.
with a son Simeon age 14 yrs old. Which would be the age of my Simeon
???????

Thanks,
Norm Hamilton
Lancaster, NY
Willard J. Porter, b.abt 1908, son of Willard/Addie (Saxe) Porter, of Lincoln Co., WA

I have an original Cabinet Card photograph of “Leslie Smith – age 3, Guanie Smith – age 17 months, and Willard Porter – age 20 months”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in Spokane, WA in about 1910. Under the children’s names is “With love from Addie – these are SAXE grandchildren.”

I found Willard J. Porter in the 1920 census for Wilson Creek (Lincoln Co.) WA, as age 11, and son of Herman L. and Addie Porter. I found Addie as Addie Saxe in the 1900 census for Adams (Adams Co.) WI, (born Jun 1884), living with her parents (James and Helen), with her sister Elva N. Saxe (b. Jul 1886). Obviously, Addie Saxe married Daniel G. Smith, and Elva Saxe married Herman Porter.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Willard J. Porter.

I am searching for info on family of Joseph Porter. I found this written in a book called "History of Alleghany County"

Joseph Porter, who was a farmer and stock-dealer, married Mary Corcoran, and became the father of four sons and three daughters. Andrew C., the second son, was born in 1801, in Pickaway County, Ohio, and became a farmer. He married Sarah McQuintie, and to them were born twelve children, of whom six sons and one daughter are now living. Andrew died in 1885, his wife in 1883. Since 1813 the family have been identified with Allegheny County,PA., Andrew having come to this county when twelve years of age.

I have info on decendants of Andrew C. Porter. I have his wife as Sarah Quinter-- this is on her tombstone in Homewood Cemetary in Pittsburg, Pa. I have names of their children but am interested in finding out about Andrew's Parents, Joseph and Mary from Ohio.
Thank You.
Carolyn Porter
Peter Porter the Emigrant

Hi, am interested in exchanging info with anyone else associated with this line. particularly legends and traditions.
As a child I was told of the circumstances surrounding Peter Porters death. According to W A Porters work(1937) it was similar. As was an Adam Shipley! (Shipleys of Md Shipley reunion commities College Pk, Md. 1937) again Legends?
In the apendex of W A Porters work, letters between cousins mention a "Jointer bit"(?) to be passed down to the eldest son. Anyone know of such a tradition?
I was told of a land grant given to a Peter Porter from Thomas Penn for a tract of land which I believe to be Jacobs Creek. This story has been passed thru my specific line yet I find no documentation other than an article my Mother had from a newspaper. (abt 1948)W A Porter does not mention it nor is there any reference online. Again, legend? tradition?.....anyone venture a guess?
Any assistance appreciated.....thanks, Jim Sheets

I am researching Thomas Porter who was born in England around 1620 and came to Hartford, CT. He died 13 Dec 1697 and was married to Sarah Hart in 1644. Many people have him as the son of John Porter and Anna White, but I don't believe he is after reading through John Porter's history.

Does anyone have any information on who he came from or any connections to siblings? I have found one site that says he could possibly be a brother to Robert Porter who also lived in Hartford, but I haven't found a link between them yet.

If anyone has information, please contact me: alli@pvpcs.com

I believe this Amos Porter b. abt 1730 Lebanon, CT m. abt 1755 Joanna Allen. Their daughter Rachel Porter b. 1766 Lenox, MA m. 1787 Sheffield, MA to Amos Kellogg, Jr. Rachel and Amos Kellogg are buried in Clinton, NY. Also buried there are Capt. Amos Porter who d. 28 May 1814 age 87, making his birth year abt 1737 and Amy Porter, his wife who d. 1 Dec 1813, age 90, making her birth year abt 1723.

There are many Amos Porters and several who were in the Revolutionary War. Is this Amos the son of John and Sarah (Heaton) Porter? Who is Amy? I find no record for the death of Joanna Allen Porter or marriage of Amy ? to Amos Porter. I can only trace my ancestry with certainty to Rachel Porter Kellogg.

Porter, James at Martin's Ferry Inn or tavern
BJWright1234 (View posts) Posted: 21 Jun 2008 3:26PM GMT

Classification: Query
Surnames: PORTER, REED
James PORTER and his family had an "Inn or Tavern" at Martin's Perry on "the old Pike Road" between the years of 1850 and 1853. Is there any resource or information where I could find out more about this venture? Research that I have done notes that there were many "Pike" roads, however I believe it would have been the "Martin's Ferry & Colerain Pike"

James' wife was Katrine (or Catherine) REED, daughter of Phillip REED.

Any assistance with this endeavor would be appreciated.
I have decided that my family appeared in Texas out of thin air.

Per my father, his grandmother was Pearl Porter who married a Wilson and then a Barnett. She is buried in the Tatum City Cemetery in Rusk County, Texas. I found her on the 1930 census in Rusk County and it said her parents were from Georgia.

She and Mr. ? Wilson had 9 children before 1919.

I would appreciate anyone that has a clue about this mystery.

Thanks!

Porters of Ross County, Ohio

I've been searching since 1999 for the family of Elizabeth Porter, born sometime between 1810-1820 in Ross County, OH, married to Ebenezer Hudson in Ross County, Ohio on 1-7-1836. Please contact me at gundave@aol.com if this person is in your family tree.

There were 7 Porter brothers, sons of Joshua Porter of Baltimore County, MD. Elizabeth may have been a daughter or granddaugher of one of these. Virtually all I know about Elizabeth. Her two children, David and Rebecca Hudson are my relatives, David Hope is my great grandfather.

There is an "Elizabeth Porter" in the Ross County County Poor house labeled "lunatic" in the 1850,60 &70 census records but no idea if its the same person.

My name is Michael Perry. I am trying to find information on my great grand parents W.E. Porter and Della Knox Porter. I belive that Della's first name may have been Mary. I know Della was born May 1868 in SC and died 8 Nov 1900. W E Ported through all I can conclude was born in 1868 ans well possibly to Vesty Porter. He died 21 May 1900. He and Della both died in Spartanburg,South Carolina. They had 3 children Bessie b. Aug 1888, Jesse Thomas Porter b. Aug 1894 and Hessie b. 30 Sept 1898all in Spartanburg,South Carolina. The three children were admitted into Connie Maxwell School/Orphanage in Greenwood, Sc on 5 March 1901. Hessie was released that same day for I believe that she was adopted that day by he adopted parents William Belton Stevens and Ellen Eunice(Still)Stevens.
W.E. Porter's middle name was Edward and he and the Family lived at 314 Cleveland St by Wofford College in Spartanburg for was listed in the 1896-97 city directory.

It would be greatly appreciated if anyone has any information that they could contact me at shellperry@consultant.com any info is better than none.

Have a Great and Positive Day.

As a hobby, I rescue old photos that have identification on them. I obtained one from an auction in NY and it's of a lovely lady who is identified as: Mrs. E.H. Porter. It was taken in the mid-late 1800s. She's dressed in a very lovely gown with a dark (black) possibly velvet collar, with matching cuffs on the sleeves.

I'd like to find family to send this to. For details, please contact me at: digginroots@yahoo.com

Kathy

... and have been working backwards since 1983 though it's been really hard to find information. My earliest Porter ancestor ( that I can find a record for) is Richard Dixon Porter who married Susan(Martha?)Lyles in Pulasi, Arkansas in 1856. He went by Dixon in his adult years. I have not been able to find him with his parents or find his marriage documentation or information of any kind. It was posted online. Does anyone know of his parents, etc?
Some people say there were two brothers who came to America. I have also heard there were four.
If you can help with any information I am grateful ")

... of what Dixon may have looked like if he takes after someone whose picture you have or have seen. William Monroe Garfield Porter is in the middle. His four sons(one is my daddy and the others are uncles, his brothers) are on each side of him.

Looking for William Porter Decendants

Two brothers, Samuel and William Porter immigrated from Wiltshire Country, England in the early 1800's.
It was believed that William died in Quebec City at age 22 in 1833.
In recent years an ad was placed in the newspaper for the Waltham/Fort Colonge area in Quebec, Canada looking for decendants of these brothers. The ad was run by someone saying they were decendants of William.
It would be amazing to find these decendants from William.
