postnikoff surname

Thanks for posting, but I have no idea if the two families are related. As far as I know, the Postnikoff's were from Georgia, Russia. I am lousy at geography, so I don't even know where this is.

The Postnikoffs were , according to my father-in-law, Dukabores or Quakers. They refused to fight in the war to protect the czar at the time. This was probably in the 1800's.

I'll ask my father in law next time I talk to him about the surname POZNIIAKOV because they do sound similar and something may have been changed in translation for different branches of the family.

I'll keep you posted if I discover anything that links the two names.

Donna

POZNIAKOV Message Board

Just set up a new message board under name POZNIAKOV. This seems to be the spelling most in line with the Russian version of this surname. Alternate spellings I have found in researching this family line are Pozdniakov, Posniakov, pozniiakov, pozniiekov, and others. The base name seems to be POZNIAK, with the ending -OFF or -OV indicating "the son of" POZNIAK; if it were a daughter, possibly the ending -OVNA (the daughter of) being spelled POZNIAKOVA or POZNIAKOVNA.
