It depends on which John Poston you are talking about. Pennsylvania or Maryland? There were two of them. Both of them are about the same age and died about the same time. There definately are a lot of conflicting stories around. Congratulation on anyone who finds the true stories. Everyone keeps copying other's information and no one does any true research to correct the false information floating around. In the meantime, the false stories get worse. I would love to hear from anyone who finds the true answers.

Charles and Abigail (Davidson/Davisson) Poston

I'm looking for Charles Poston who was married to Abigail Davidson (Davisson). Abigail and Charles are listed on the will of Andrew Davisson of Henry County, Indiana. Abigail was Andrew's daughter. In 1836, Andrew came from Harrison County, WV with his wife, Sarah, and four children, Franklin, Nathan, Mary and William Eldon Davisson. I believe Abigail and her brothers, Abner and Benjamin Davidson may have been Andrew's children from a previous marriage and stayed in WV. I would like to hear from anyone associated with the Poston or Davisson/Davidson lines.

We appear to be connected at the level of Elias B. POSTON and his first wife Nancy Norton. My ancestor Catherine Ann POSTON is sister to your Elizabeth POSTON.

Since you have the book, you can find my late father as Frederick Calvin JAMES, son of Harry Vincent JAMES and Mirl Ohio MCDANIEL.His sister Mary Louise JAMES is also deceased. She married several times, but had no children. My brother and I are the only children of Harry and Mirl. My brother is the last JAMES down from Harry. My brother has no children.

There are a couple of active POSTON researchers studying the Elias POSTON line including one from a Maryland suburb of Washington. You may have found him already. He has extensive material locating the family in the correct Maryland county. He has posted a great deal of his findings online.

I would like to correspond off of the board to see if you need some of the links which I have on the WINSHIPs to fill out your sources. If you need or want data on my JAMES family to fill in where The subject book ended, I can offer that along with other data on children of my great grandfather Aaron Jefferson JAMES. If you want more information, email me. For the people you need more on, give the family names and numbers used in the book. That way I can find them morer easily. I am about to do some research on the JAMES family in Blountville, Sullivan, Tennessee. Hopefully, I will be able to sort out some families there. There are many children with the same names among sibling family groups! The book didn't concentrate on the JAMES ancestry of Catherine POSTON's husband. There is a little more on the JAMES line in other writings by the two authors.

You connect to my husband's ancestry when you get to the LATHROPs in New Haven, Connecticut. If you are searching them we may be able to help each other. There are some good genealogies done on that family also.

I have an original copy of the book written by Elias Olan James (d. 1954) and Glenna Lucile James (d. aft 1979) that was passed down from my grandmother to my mother and then to me.

I have looked at all of the trees on Ancestry for information on John Poston's wife. Some of you show Susanna Mary Baldridge(b.1714) but her DOB would make her 7 years old when she gave birth to William. The other choice is Susanna Holmes (b.1677). This seems more logical. Any source help would be greatly appreciated...

Do you have any birth dates? I do not find a Hendrix. I have lots of Josephs but without a birth date, I cannot determine if any of them are yours. Another thing I would like to point out is, part of Anson County at one time was actually in South Carolina due to NC vs SC border dispute. It is "highly possible" that it is now South Carolina. my grandfather is jobe hendrix poston the only info i have on my great grandfather is he is joseph poston. My family seems to be from Florence south carolina area. But my grandfather married two women i know at least one my gramma julia swink out of anson nc.. i am wondering if i am looking in the wrong area to find my great grandfather ..im guess im wondering why my grandfather would have been in nc since it seems he lived in sc.. do you have any of these names listed my grandfather fathered a total of 21 children

they are connected to Jobe Hendrix Poston (my grandfather) his father is Joseph H Poston and his mother Lou(Ellen) Cresey born in hannah nc her mother was Nezzie Deese and i believe his grandfather to be a John Poston but nothing else to go from. He had several siblings that he helped raise we believe some to be albert, julius,charlie he had sisters but we do not know the names

Jobe married two women Mellie Stone first and Julia Mae(Y) Swink Jobe and his first wife Mellie are buried in darlingtons magnolia cemetary Julia my grand mother was returned to north carolina wadesboro ..in all there were a total of 22 children two sets of twin one in each marriage and one of Julias children died shortly after childbirth leaving one adoption .. Julias family is mostly from Rockingham north carolina
i have been able to trace Jobes wives back farther than him
if anyone could help or perhaps give me a middle intial for John his grandfather the help would really be appreciated

I am having a great deal of difficulty with my line of Postons it seems they used loads of nicknames and well i dont think any of them could spell. and they change their dates of birth or years often
I am believing my great grandfather is Joe M or W .. I know he had at least two wives the first is Lou something or some variation..the other is Maggie Hayes..from the two marriages they had the following children.cleveland,joseph, leo, friley(sp)david,ida,ola,wallace,<--maggies kids..Lous kids Jobe louis grady troy and Julius...Jobe is my grandfather he had 21 or 22 kids with two marriages

i do know this generation was farm hands primarily tobacco..and also operating the furnaces??

I do know that some family is in NC and some in SC...i am pretty sure this is my great grandfather..i can connect the children to him thru obits...but not the wives...I can even figure out where he orginated...
do you have anything that would help

I am trying to find information on the family of Cleveland Poston, born 1/22/1884 and died 9/10/1960. I am pretty sure his father is Charles Poston, born 6/15/1865 and died 4/12/1924. There are stories from my family that maybe Charles Poston was adopted and that his real last name was actually Williams. At this point I lose the trail. Cleveland was married to Maude Heflin. Feeling silly, but a newbie, and stuck

Sorry for the length of this in advance.

I am desperately seeking information about my grandfathers side of the family. Their last name is Poston. My grandfather's parents are Zephaniah (sp?) Jackson Poston, and Tins(e)y Mae Eskridge. I know that Zephaniah was born in 1856 in Smyth Virginia...Not sure whether that was W. Virginia or not.

I have a Charles Henry Poston (b. 1856) and a Mary Campbell (b. 1861) as Zephaniah's parents.

My own personal research has taken me back about 7 generations to a Richard Poston married to an Anne Campbell, but no dates. I am guessing this has to be around the early 1700s or so. The only thing is that I do not know if this info is correct or not. If anyone would be willing to share ANY info with me, it would be greatly appreciated.

There's also family lore that my particular family of Poston's are descended from an Italian. Not sure who this person was, or when, but that the last name was Postoni(i?), and they dropped the "i". Apparently, they didn't want anyone to know they were Italian.

Again, any help or info would honestly be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

You sound like you've got the same family tree that I do. It was done by my Daddy's cousin Erma back in 1965. John's son John (Jack) Poston is my great-great-grandfather. Our line of the Poston's were from South Georgia and I have lived in Atlanta all my life.

I am looking for info on my g-g grandfather Charles "Charley" Stephenson and my g-g grandmother Hannah A. Poston. They married on Dec 25 1876 in St. Francois Co. They had children, Mary Edith, Arthur V., Charles Jr., Herman Kenneth (my g-grandfather), Albert and Lena. By 1900 the census shows them living in the St. Louis area. I don't have much on Charles parents or siblings but I do on Hannah. I can't seem to find any death records for either of them. Any help would be great!
