Hi Mike;
Can you please help us with Simon Schryer, son of Nicholas and Mary Eastwood? We have found Simon with a Phoebe Walker, Solome McCloud, and Sarah Aries. We were unable to find Simon's marriage records, but we found his children's marriages showing the 3 wives. These are from church records, in Papineauville, Que. We would appreciate any info you might have. We are related to the Schryer family as follows; My grandmother Melina Foisy married Cyprien Guertin and they had a large family. When Cyprien died Melina married John Auguste Schryer in 1926. John was the son of Jos. Schryer & Lea Larocque. Melina's sister, Emma Foisy marr. John's brother Jos. T. Schryer in 1898. They also had a large family. Will look forward to hearing from you regarding Simon and his wives.
Regards,
Vern Lariviere

Thanks for message.
You know how they say don't ever throw anything away ?

There's so much of it that I can't find the source references, and whilst I agree with your identificaation of the dates problem, my notes definately show marriage between Samuel and Mary Anne Cole(s) on 25/7/1830, her parents being Francis Coles and Sarah Coldicott.

If I can I'll go through the past folders for more details of the source origins.

My handwritten notes indicates the 1841 census, abode 120 Gt Dover St, Newington, Surrey and that he ( Samuel ) was variously a warehouseman, Flour porter, Carman, labourer.

I'll get back to you when I can spend some more time on the original notes.
Hi Lee/David

David, I am struggling with the marriage date you have for Samuel and Mary. I have their years of birth as - Samuel 1819 and Mary 1821 (picked up from the census) and if they married in 1830 they would have been only 11 and 9, young even for those days??

I definitely got my kids from the census records and would be interested to see where your list originated from David. Look forward to hearing from you.

Lee, I from West Sussex in the UK and have some info on Ann's family but obviosuly my link from Grace downward.

Ann married John William Pritchard on 3/5/1879 and they had 8 kids as far as I know:

Grace Violet b 23/9/1894
Annie Elizabeth b 1885
Dorothy Mary A b 1890
Florence b 1893
George Frederick b 1896
Henry George b 1883
John William b 1891
William J b 1881

I descend from Grace who died on 6/Jan/1971 in Bromley, Kent, UK.

Cheers,

Wendy x

David has a list of Sanuel & Mary's children, but it seems to differ from our list. I have them listed in both the 1861 and 1871 Census. Waiting for David to notify where his list comes from.
With Samuel & Mary married in 1837, you would think the 2st child born would be after that date. (William 1844)

David has the parents of Mary Ann Cole (check another message)

Wendy, Do you have any marriages and family of my George and your Grace siblings (i.e. Ann's family)? I have nothing here.

Thanks again ..... Lee (where do you live?)

David, I seem to have a different list of Samuel & Mary's children than you.
As with Wendy, our children are listed in the 1861 Census and then again in the 1871 Census with Charles & Arthur.

Where did you get this list of children?

It is great you have Marys parents!
If it helps:
Samuel married ( 25/7/1830) Mary Anne Cole born about 1803 who was daughter of Francis Coles and Sarah Caldicott.
&
the eight children I have as: Henry 1844, Louisa-Jane 1831, Mary-Ann-Elizabeth 1833, William 1839, Samuel 1841,William George 1843, Margaret 1846, Henry 1848

Is it Mary-Ann-Elizabeth 1833 you refer to?

I cant find the Pritchard link now, its omewher in the pile of family tree papers !

On the hunt for Samuels parents, I have checked out (been to & searched) Canterbury (Kent UK) records office on the fact that there are roots in the Dover (Kent) area, but with no success. That's where the immigrant weavers arrived from France. At least they named the pub after us and I can recommend the food in the restaurant there. (Check out the Weavers restaurant, Canturbury, Kent, UK on the net.)

Best of luck, let me know how you get on.

The names you speak of are my parents, brothers and sisters. Leonard Potvin came from Canada and traveled throughout Vermont and Mass. working as a hired hand on many farms, not a bad way of life. He met Bettina on the Taylor dairy farm. After their divorce Bettina returned to Vermont and Leonard settled in Plymouth - remarried and had more kids. I think he worked for P&B bus until he retired. By the way you have another brother Charles. Tell me if you have additional info?

Looking for ancestors and relatives of Friselde Potvin (1858-1948) died in Bracebridge, Ontario. She married Joseph Caisse (1855-1916) and had 11 children, one of whom was the famous Rene Caisse (1888-1978), advocate for ESSIAC. Aunt Rene, was my great aunt. Friselde's parents were apparently Louis Caisse and Amelia Barrie. According to tradition the family came to Quebec in the 1700's, having lived outside Paris.

The family word of mouth history is they lived in Detroit on St. Antoine St. There is a story of them swimming in the Detroit River. His family moved up to Bay City, Mich because they thought it was getting "too rough" in Detroit sometime while he was growing up. I heard he had a few siblings. I do not know his father's name or any of his siblings names There was relitives when I was growing up in Bay City ( distant cousins I went to school with who I was told definitly were my cousins and they spelled thier name "Pudvan".
I hope this helps.
Many thanks for the info, it is a significant breakthrough for me. Do you have any info on Celeste's siblings? I've been trying to cross-reference the census and vital records for Southbridge and Worcester County, but the waters have proven a little muddy, especially with the whole Potvin/Porter assimilationist thing. If I knew if any of her brothers or sisters also emigrated to the area, I think I can tie that data to a few leads.

They married on 3 May 1879 in Newington and had 8 children that I am aware of.

Her parents were Samuel Portwain born 1819 in Canterbury and Mary Cole born 1821 in Ipswich.

I did post before about my Portwain connection but I don't think anyone replied back then.

Wendy x

Re: HOW did the Potvins get to Vermont???

This is fantastic!
Betty is my mother. I can try to answer any questions you may have, and I have many questions as well. I am Michael Joseph, age now 46. I am two years older than Charles. I was born in So Weymouth, became ward at 2, first foster family The Harndens. Spent every Christmas with mom when in her trek around the state. I finished growing up in Burlington Vermont... and my life goes on from there.

I have been searching for my brothers and sisters for many years, intensively for the last 10 years. My wife has been trying to track down family tree as well. I have had intermittent contact with the girls when I was younger, and I keep in contact with Mom, Bettina, pretty regularly. I have more information about her too. Since she is now 72... well, time is of the essence, yes? She has said in her more lucid moments that she doesnt hear from any of the kids but me now, but it is anyone's guess if her memory is accurate.

my email address is michael.potvin@yahoo.com Makes it pretty easy to remember, eh? PLEASE, by all means, contact me, as soon as possible so we can talk. This is the best break I have had since this began. I am looking foward to hearing from you.
