HUBBARD , OH– There will be services at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011, at Grace Lutheran Church in Hubbard, Ohio for Sophie Kroner, 85, who passed away Saturday, May 14, 2011, from a ruptured thoracic aortic aneurysm at ValleyCare Health System emergency room.
Sophie was born Oct. 23, 1925, in Sharpsville, Pa., a daughter of Joseph Sr. and Susie Muntak Povec, and was a first generation American.
She came to Hubbard, Ohio (Mahoning County) in 1927 and graduated from Hubbard High in 1943.
Sophie worked at Powell Pressed Steel during World War II from 1943 to 1946, and later was a clerk at Ed Staten’s Grocery store.
Sophie was a member of Grace Lutheran Church since childhood.
She was a former Sunday school teacher, member of church parish education committee, and was active in the women’s group.
For many years, she helped with the Christmas luncheons that were held at Grace for the Hubbard school teachers.
She loved to cook and bake and was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her children, George K. Jr. (Mary Anne) Kroner of Cary, N.C., John J. Kroner Sr. of Howland, Ohio, William K. Kroner, Susan K. Wynn and Nancy A. (Paul) Keslar, all of Hubbard.
She also leaves her grandchildren, George Kroner III, John Kroner Jr., Dr. Steven Kroner, Brian Kroner, Kaylene Merkel, Christen Ripoli, Harry Wynn Jr., James Wynn, Michelle Wynn, Anita Keslar, Candace Keslar and Jacquelyn Keslar.
She also leaves three step-granddaughters; and her great-grandchildren, Samuel Kroner, Chloe and Jaydin Ripoli; four step great-grandchildren; and one step great-great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Karl Kroner Sr., whom she married Sept. 3, 1955.
He passed away Dec. 4, 1964, leaving her to raise five children, ages three weeks and three days to eight years old, on her own.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Susan Kresovski, Ann Povec and infant Mary Povec; brothers, Joseph Povec, John Povec, Andrew Povec and infant Edward Povec, a stillborn brother; and her daughter-in-law, Roberta Kroner. She was the last of nine children.
There will be calling hours on Friday, May 20, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home and Saturday, May 21, 2011, one hour prior to service time at Grace Lutheran Church, 111 Hall Ave., Hubbard, Ohio.

Burial will be at Brookfield Township Cemetery.
