I am searching for the family of Frederick Trevor Powell, born Cwmtillery, South Wales, UK, in 1896; died in Orange, Essex, New Jersey, in 1977. His sister, Gwladys, b. 1901, Llangattock, also emigrated to the US; married Edward ?, two children, Trevor and Rene.
Frederick and Gwladys were my grandmother's siblings. My grandmother was Gwenllian Powell, married William Lewis in 1915, two children: Jack (John) and Syb (Ceridwen).

Wow! Your response was great; I read the Rockvale website and saw the picture of the Joseph Powell family. I shared it with my children as well. I have many stories about Effie as she was my beloved grandmother. She was a wonderful cook and shared some of her best recipes (my favorites) with my wife, Sue. She would never do that with my mother as there was a tense relationship. She was a dynamic and strong willed woman.

I have only one picture of my grandparents, Effie and Guy, but would be happy to copy and share with you.

Amazing! Effie and Alice were sisters. Alice is my Great Grandmother. Alice's son Charles was married to Delores and she is still living. She remembers Effie well. Effie saved a church from burning! Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Powell of Cobourg celebrated on Monday the sixtieth anniversary of their marriage, and all the surviving sons and daughters, with a goodly proportion of the grandchildren, and a number of intimate friends, were present. Among these were: Mrs. Henry Beatty (Hattie Powell), Toronto; Mrs. W. L. Payne (Emma Powell), Colborne; Dr. N. A. Powell, Toronto; Misses Lucy and Clara Powell, Cobourg; George W. Powell., Peterboro; Mrs. John B. Gallinger (Eliza Powell), Southend; Will E. M. Powell, Toronto; W. E. and H. A. Payne, V. M. Odlum, Miss M.E. Powell, Toronto; Misses Eva and Bessie Powell, Peterboro; Miss Frances Payne, Colborne; Miss Libbie Massey, Mrs. Gram, Miss Reynolds, Rev. Dr. Saunders, wife, and daughter P. Skitch.

Dinner was served at 2 o’clock, and at its conclusion Dr. Powell, in proposing a toast to the health of the bride and groom, referred to the fact that at their silver wedding in 1867, ten children were present. At the golden wedding in 1892, eight of these responded to the roll call, Mary (Mrs. Odium) having in the meantime died at the Methodist Mission in Tokyo, Japan, and Hart, who was paymaster of the Massey-Harris Company, having also passed away. The remaining eight had been spared, and were once more gathering to do honor to their parents. He spoke feelingly of the love and inspiring Christian spirit always manifest in the home, of the veneration in which the children all held their parents, and of the influence the home training had exerted on their lives. The toast was drunk in cold water, and was spoken to by the other sons, the sons-in-law, W. L. Payne and John B. Gallinger, by the grandsons, and by Rev. Dr. Saunders, pastor of the Methodist Church in Cobourg. It was responded to by Mr. Powell, who is hale and vigorous in spite of his eighty-two years.

Yes I am that Gary Powell. I moved from Temple around 5 years ago here in Austin. I have information on the Family printed out on paper, that I lost a while back, because I had to re-install the OS on this computer again. I was on My Heritage, but they changed and I lost my information on the Family Tree I had on it. On Google Picasa Web Albums I have some pictures of GGF Thomas J Powell, and some of my grandparents John and Pearl Powell, and of his brothers and their wives, etc. I have it set for public view. Yes Peter Sr., was one of GGGLevi Powell's(1799-1862)first son's with his first wife(no name no info). Another cousin, Dennis Powell has finally gotten back to a William Powell born in 1625,Mass., I believe. Here is a letter from him I got a while ago, on the family.

Henry Powell son of David Powell and Emily Bowler, Henry was born in Aug. 17th 1683 in New Hanover, North Carolina, died unknown and location?
David Powell son of William Powell and Susanna Bullock, David was born Oct 18th 1652 in Middlesex, Massachusetts and died april 1725 in New Hanover, North Carolina.
William Powell son of unknown at this time. Born 1625 place unknown at this time.
William Powell was married to Susanna Bullock born in 1628.
Gary, that's it for now I have some smaller info of married dates and a few storys and some records. Let me know what you think? I can provide sources which amounts to alot in agreement with other findings.

FYI, they disowned my grandmother, Effie Powell, for marrying my grandfather. As I understand it, she married beneath her as my grandfather was both German and a soldier in the U.S. Army Calvarly. Joseph was a Pharmacist. Hope this infor is of interest to you.

I am hoping for some help with Benjamin Hilliard Powell. I am doing research for a friend on his Powell line. I have taken his line back to Benjamin Hilliard Powell but I am not able to get any further since I cannot find Benjamin Hilliard Powell's parents.
I have located Benjamin Hilliard Powell marrying Jimmie A. "Jan" Jordan 05 January 1850 in Cumberland County, North Carolina. In the 1860 Census they are in Danbury, Stokes County, North Carolina and by 1862 the family is in Surry County, North Carolina. Benjamin Hilliard Powell enlisted in the Civil War (Company E, North Carolina 53rd Infantry Regiment on 30 April 1862) in Surry County.

If you can help with this line in any way possible, I would greatly appreciate it. I am looking for his parents for sure and would be happy to know the parents of Jimmie A. "Jan" Jordan as well.
And would like to find out names of any and all siblings to Benjamin Powell.

Also in 1850 the elder Powell in Cumberland is Barny Powell who is found 1840 in Robeson County. From
Robeson County came a James Powell (1780-1849) to Georgia. His wife was Celia HILLIARD who was born in
Cumberland or Wayne County NC. ALthough never confirmed it is believed that James Powell’s father was a
Charles Powell who also moved to Georgia about 1800 and died there soon after. It is possible there was another
Powell-Hilliard marriage ... but also possible that Benjamin Hilliard Powell is a g/son of Charles Powell of NC
Cumberland, Fayetteville. Check the Hilliard families in Robeson and also the “Major Hilliard” families.
