Regarding the Praetz family, I was able to get the application for social Security for John Praetz, son of John and Johanna Praetz. The application lists John's mothers maiden name as Johanna Fooken. As for the number of children William had, according to the obituary for Hannah Margaret Praetz, they had seven children. Willie died at seven days old and Helen died at age seven. The rest of the children were John, Marie, Fred, Hazel and William Jr. Have attached a picture of Hannah and William Jr. as well as William Sr. Do you have any info on Catherine?

Markus
Thank you so much for sending me a message on the Pratz family. I did not know any of the history that you mentioned. It is very interesting. I will try to contact the churches, and I will try to find an address on Erich Pratz. Wouldn't it be great if he was from my line. I wish we were from the same line. It is difficult for me as I don't speak German but I have purchased a book to help me. If you want to e-mail me direct you can send mail to Evalynp@aol.com

Once again Thanks I really appreciate you sending me the e-mail.

Evalyn Pratz
Oklahoma City, OK USA

Hello Evalyn,
There is still a family living in Honhardt. I am myself a Pratz and was born 3km away from that village. I am unfortunately not from the same line but I am sure you can get information on the family either from the Lutheran church (evangelische Kirchengemeinde Honhardt) or even from the family that still lives in Honhardt. They are running a carpentry business and are Erich Pratz.
I am myself living in South Afirca but I am returning for a short visit in about 3 weeks.
I am not sure if you familiar with the history of the Pratz. But here is all I know. An uncle of my grandfather had an emblem of the Pratz that dated back to the 16th century. We came from a castle called Radeck in Austria where we were in charge of the horses of the count. During the 30 years of war, which was mainly Protestant against Catholic we had to flee for our lives as we were Protestants. The Pratz fled to Germany around Krichberg/ Jagst about 30 minutes drive from Honhardt.
Well that all I know.
Markus

PRATZ, GEORG JOHN from Wurttemberg (Honhardt), Steinbach on Jagst River

I am researching GEORG JOHN PRATZ born 17 Sept 1859 Honhardt Germany. I would like to know more about his bothers or sisters. He came to America in 1884 and settled in Kansas later moved to Oklahoma. Parents were JACOB PRATZ and DOROTHA STEGMIER, both born in Germany.

I found Georg listed on ancestry, Passenger & Immagration list index, 1500s-18900s, concerning the history of emigration from the county of Crailsheim. He was listed Emigration 1883 Honhardt, (Steinbach). Listed with him, having the same information was FREDRICH PRATZ, possibly his brother.

His Declaration of Intent dated 1 Mar 1886. He married 17 Sept 1886 in Clay Center, Kansas USA, to BARBARA GEHRING, born Wurttemberg, Germany 31 Oct 1856.

My LDS library will be closed a year due to reconstruction so I can't order any film. Any suggestions on what church and the address to write to in Steinbach,on the Jagst River, Germany for family records.

Evalyn Pratz

Ken,

I haven't visited the boards in a long time here as you can see. I never saw your message and we had computer problems awhile ago. Was it my posting you were talking about.....Praetz family in IL during the late 1800's? I don't really know where Frank Praetz came from before he lived around here. Census info lists his parents being born in Prussia. Sorry about the delay...it's been a long year or so at home here......smile.

I would also love to exchange pictures. I have researched the Praetz family on ancestry.com. There are passenger lists to search, but none have had the family coming to America that I have found. There is a Gideon Praetz family in Ogle County, Illinois, and I would love to know if we are related. The 1880 census has the family in Palmyra, Lee, Illinois. I worked hard to find them because the name is interpreted as Praety. The year of immigration listed there is 1873. I am interested in William's mother's maided name you gave as Fooken. There are a lot of Fooken's in Whiteside County, Illinois, so maybe that's why they settled there. William Praetz and Johanna Behrens are on the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index as are his sisters Anna, Mary, and Dena, and brother John F. William had 8 children according to the censuses. Is this correct?
Jeri

Mark, my mother's maiden name is a Pratz...and I am doing Pratz research myself. However, the only William A. Pratz I have in my line is a William Ansen Pratz born December 4, 1862. My genealogy goes back to a John Pratz, born 1798 in Carlisle, PA and died in Illinois. I might find a link with your line of Pratz', but Clifford and Ted are not part of my genealogy. Can you give me any other Pratz names: your great grandfather perhaps and/or great-great grandfather?

Hi, I am researching my Pratz genealogy. My great-great grandfather was Jonathan Pratz who married Eliza Jane Murphy. Jonathan was born 1820 in PA and died 1904 in Toulon, IL. His father was John Pratz, born 1798 in PA and died 1862 in IL. John first married Nancy Layman, who died in 1820 in childbirth, giving birth to Jonathan Pratz. then John Pratz married Sarah Salmay Wetzell in 1821 in PA. They had 8 children: Elizabeth; Stephen; John; Margaret; Isabella; Sarah; Emeline;William. I am looking for John Pratz's father and mother and where they would have immigrated from.
