I saw your message while searching for information on my Grandmother's family. Her maiden name was also Precious. Her father, a merchant, in Glencoe, Ontario, Canada was George Precious and I believe, her Mother was Mary Ann Gilbert. My Grandmother was the oldest of eight girls. She married William Currey from England. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully, there is a connection between your Precious's and mine! By the way, the Precious surname has been seen on a descendancy chart in the Curry Mansion in Key West, Florida. Take care, Shannon P.S. I'm also searching for my Gurry's in Hamilton, Ontario (where you are looking for your Precious) My Gurry's are in other parts of Canada and also Ireland, mainly Riverstown, County Sligo. Are you from Hamilton, by any chance? If so, have you ever heard of the Gurry Hotel/Garage? There is also a big three story home on Catherine Street that my ggrandfather built. I have cousins living in Hamilton still.

Hello, I have a Sarah Precious whose mother was Hannah and her father Edward. She was born in Westley Waterless, Cambridgeshire, England I believe in 1775. She was married to William Gimson. Do you think this may be connected to your family at all?

The Precious family that I am currently researching lived and worked at Newport, quite close to Hive.

Charlotte (b1868) Selina Louisa (b1870)

Bentley and Nancy were my husband's grandparents.

I am seeking further information about this family. They seem to disappear entirely after the 1901 UK census (see below). George however gets married again on 02 Aug 1906 in Worcester, Massachusetts before disappearing once again without trace. His US wife (Victoria) lists herself as a widow in the 1910 census and changes her name to Percious by the 1920 census.

I think he might have died en route to North Dakota from someplace in Ontario around 1900 with his wife Flora McDonald Precious. She made it to North Dakota; he didn't. It is believed that his first wife was Elizabeth Juley. Spelling of his first name remains uncertain and may vary amongst records.

Thank you for your reply but I'm not sure whether we have a family connection.

My father in law was FREDERICK WALTER PRECIOUS, and he had a brother called ERIC, and a sister ALICE, their mother's maiden name was ROBERTS and the family lived in Newport, a village between Hull and Goole on the now A63.

Thats where the information that we have at this stage ends, and the names that you mention, I'm afraid dont ring any bells.

Thankyou for your message, the only information i have that i know of is my Grandad was called Frederick Precious and so was my dad, my Grandads brother was called Patrick Precious and they live in Yorkshire, i have some paperwork which my cousins have given me with some names from Yorkshire i will find it and send the names i have to you.

This may be a long shot but worth a try.

My husbands father Frederick Walter Precious was born in Newport, very near to Hive and lived there until he married Laura Bartram in the mid 1930's.

I know that the name Precious is very common thereabouts but there may be a link, I do hope so as we are struggling to find any other direct ancestors to my father in law.

Homer Precious, son of George & Harriet Precious, was born Northumberland county, Ontario, Canada about 1863, and married in Wellington county, Ontario to Sarah Marshall, born in Drayton about 1870 daughter of John & Elizabeth Marshall. Marriage document states both were residents of Guelph at the time of their marriage. It is not known if they remained in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. I am looking for the dates of their death and the names and birthdates of any children they might have had.

Arthur Worsley DUXBURY, born in Church, Lancashire, England, on August 5, 1864, was the son of Edward (a.k.a. Edmond) DUXBURY and Sarah Ann WORSLEY. He was the brother of my great grandmother.

On April 20, 1885 he married Sarah Ann PRECIOUS at the Holy Trinity Curch in Dristing Vale, Derby, England. According to the wedding certificate, Sarah Ann Precious was born about 1865 and was the daughter of 'Darius'.

Problem - per the 1881 census, two Sarah Ann Precious of about the same age exist - and neither have a father by the name of Darius.

Per the IGI, Darius would be the son of Matthias and Ann... who had several children, all born in Lancashire... Matthias, however, originally hailed from Yorkshire. Some of the children appear to have used names other than the one with which the were baptized...

I am looking to find (a) the descendency of Arthur and Sarah, (b) the pedigree for Sarah Ann Precious and (c) with any luck, details of the death of Arthur's mother, Sarah Ann DUXBURY, nee WORSLEY.

Our paths may have crossed before...

I have a Sarah Ann Precious, born in Newton, Cheshire, about 1866. She married Arthur Worsley Duxbury, brother of my great-grandmother, Nancy Ellen Duxbury.

Sarah Ann was the daughter of Darius Precious, born in Hyde, Cheshire, circa 1832, and Sarah (full-name unknown), born in Hyde, Cheshire, circa 1834.

From research at the IGI, it would appear that Darius, along with a brother by the name of Thomas (born circa 1834), was the son of Matthias and Ann... but before your posting, I was unable to find out any more about his parents.

Do you have any information to share?

I am also looking for Precious ancestors in Yorkshire, although a bit later than yours. Do the following names mean anything to you? Benjamin James Precious, his sons Joseph, Bertram, John, and Albert and his daughters Rose and Ethel. Benjamin's date of birth is c. 1847 and he was born in Doncaster and his family range from 1872 to 1893 and were all born in Sheffield. Any help would be appreciated.

My dad married a Cynthia Hazel Yeamon in 1966.

My dad lived in Norfolk and worked on the american air base.
