If you have ancestry, you may wish to review Jan's family tree. It is titled "20 Oct 2009 - Jan Mongoven Family Tree", or search for trees using Richard's name.

Try this link: http://community.ancestry.ca/profile.aspx?cba=janealogy50

I descend from Richard's brother Daniel.

Jan was a big help to me and she has a lot of information. I review her tree quite often
I AM SEARCHING FOR INFO ABOUT RICHARD PRENTICE WHO WAS THE FATHER OF DANIEL, RICHARD, LYDIA AND DEBBIE .
WHAT WAS HIS WIFE'S NAME AND WHERE DID THEY MARRY.
I KNOW THAT HE WAS A U.E.L. FROM SARATOGA, NEW YORK
AND HE DID HAVE A HOMESTEAD IN KINGSTON IN 1774 AND 1776.
DID HE COME WITH SIBLINGS AND DID THEY SETTLE IN CHARLOTTENBOURG, ONT, NEAR CORNWALL?

I UNDERSTAND THAT HE MAY HAVE DIED IN QUEBEC CITY IN 1815. IF THIS WAS TRUE HE WOULD HAVE BEEN DEAD WHEN HIS TWO DAUGHTERS, SARAH AND DEBBIE MARRIED THE MOORE BROTHERS.
WAS THEIR MOTHER STILL ALIVE?
I tried to email you but your email address doesn't work.
I am lookng for info about Richard Prentice and his family.
I think that he may have been born in Connecticutt and then moved to the Saratoga Area.
He and his friend became rangers in the Revolutionary war.
I have found a grant of land for him in 1783 at Kingston.
I understand he lost it as he didn't do enough work on it.
it only makes sense as he was too busy in the war.
I do have some info about his family
He lived in the Hull area for awhile as some of his children were born there.
Since he had moved Canada, most of his chldren must have been born in Canada.
There was a Thomas, who was born in Chelsea, Vermont, so maybe he moved back and forth, as I know some of the Moores did.
I am trying to tie up some loose ends for my MOORE Book, so any info you can share would be helpful.
Sylvianne Forsythe-Penner
Calgary, Alberta, Canada
I have an old photo of Lucy Prentice, taken in Watertown, NY. The back reads, "Lucy Prentice. Adams Ctr, NY. Mar 20, 1883." I believe she is the daughter of Asa Babcock Prentice and Marion Prentice of Adams Center, NY. Her siblings were Henry W. and Major Alfred C. Prentice. Lucy was born 1867 in Wisconsin (1880 census). She may have been married to an Alfred Stillman.

I would like to return her to her family, so if you are related to her and would like to have the photo, let me know.

Patricia Rock
prock2@ec.rr.com

GGG Grandmother Quest

To the Barnes, Cates, Kates, O’Berry, Reese, Reece, Sherod, Sherrod, Wilson, Booth, Prentice, Prentiss, Crumer, and Cromer Families:

I am turning to all families that may be connected to my current quest:

My 2nd Great Grandmother was Laura Cates Barnes. Her middle name may have been Kate. According to census records, she was born in Florida; death records provide her birth date as 26 Sep 1845; passed away on 1 Nov 1907, Kissimmee, Osceola, FL. They are buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Kissimmee, FL. Laura Cates married James Alpheus Barnes about 1865. James Alpheus Barnes was the son of Benjamin Barnes, who was son of Jesse Barnes...of South Carolina.

Laura Cates and James Alpheus Barnes had the following children:
1)	Elizabeth Waller Barnes, b: 1 Dec 1867, Lake City, Columbia County FL; married James Franklin O’Berry
2)	Benjamin Reese Barnes; b 26 Jul 1869; Lake City FL; died 1870
3)	Sherod (Sherrod) Alpheus Barnes; b 4 Nov 1870; died 1872
4)	George Theodore Barnes; b 24 Mar 1872; died 1917
5)	Rosa Jane Barnes; b 10 Mar 1874; died 1879
6)	Ola Verdelia Barnes; b 17 Jul 1876; died 15 May 1936 (married Daniel T. Wilson “Dede”)
7)	William C. Barnes; b 13 Oct 1879;

Tracing the ancestry of Laura Cates has become a nightmare. I have all the census records “after” her marriage to James Alpheus Barnes. I have followed up “family” leads, expanded my search to NC, GA, TN, AL and TX. In desperation I started studying the names of her children for clues, which has led me on a very interesting study of the following families: Sherod, Sherrod, Reece, and Reese.

I have stumbled upon the following information that seems to mean nothing, but could provide a breakthrough:
•	In 1842, a Mary Reece, born 1825 in TN married a Robert H. Sherrod, born 1816 in TN.
•	On July 2, 1882 in TX, a Mary Elizabeth Cates married Granville Sherrod (born 8 May 1859 in TN, son of John “Jack” Sherrod). Mary Elizabeth Cates was daughter of William D. Cates (b 5 Dec 1831, TN) and Martha M. Booth (b 15 Aug 1841).
•	In Maine, I discovered an Ola Cates...no further information.
•	In Alabama, 1849, a Malinda Cates purchased property Alabama.
•	In “The Ancestors & Descendents of Carroll Prentice” it is stated that Samuel Wesley Prentice, (son of William Prentice) born 20 January 1809 in Louisville, Jefferson Co. Kentucky; married Malinda Crumer Cates 1848.
•	The 1850 Marshall AL census shows a Malinda Prentice living with Cates children, including a Laura Cates age 4.
•	The 1860 Marshall AL census shows Malinda and Samuel Prentice with children including Laura Prentice age 14.
•	The 1870 Marshall AL census shows Malinda and Samuel Prentice with children and Laura Cates age 24.

I would very much appreciate any help in solving the mystery regarding my GGG grandmother Laura Cates O’Berry.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Barbara Bretthauer Marquez Froyland
bfroyland@comcast.net

The lady posting the message said that Mr. DeWald only offered to sell her his book, "no proof or information offered concerning a connection."

She failed to mention that she was also informed that the book traced Catherine Mary (Doss) Prentice's roots back to early England as well as containing information about their, and her, related maternal lines, and that it also identifies many hundreds of the descendants, and spouses, of her earliest identified Prentice ancestor.

She was also informed that the book also traced some of her maternal lines back a thousand years to Medieval royalty, including William the Conqueror (Battle of Hastings, 1066), Kings of England and France, and the Emperor Charlemagne.

In a follow-up email, she was informed that she would be pleased with the wealth of information it has for her and that in the past 29 years, nobody has ever said they were disappointed.

Hi:

Your posting is dated April 2005 and I'm hoping you still are receiving responses.

An Asher Prentice claimed in his Rev War pension application to have been born in Uxbridge, MA on 25 October 1755 but there's nothing in the Uxbridge records to confirm that information. An Asher Prentice married Sarah Marsh per intentions filed in Uxbridge 12 September 1799 (Asher's pension record reflects marriage occurred 18 October 1779).

Asher the Rev War vet died 8 March 1813.

His widow's pension request shows a son Asher born about 1797, a daughter Polly married to an u/k Butker and a daughter Lucy married to an u/k House.

Does this seem to connect?

Mike Potaski
mikepotaski@hotmail.com

John Prentice and Hester/Esther Nichols

I'm working backwards from my ancestors Esther Prentice and Benadam Gallup. Esther's parents are John Prentice and either Hester or Esther Nichols. The problem is that most people think that John married both Hester and Esther, who were first cousins. Hester was the daughter of (I think) John, while Esther was the daughter of (I think) his brother Caleb, two sons of Francis Nichols of Stratford. So I'm trying to decipher whether I'm descended from Caleb or Isaac, and the references I've read seem to be evenly split, but don't really back anything up one way or another. There's also a reasonable possibility that Hester and Esther are in fact the same person, but again I'm still not sure who this person's father is, John or Caleb. Does anybody have definite proof one way or another? Thanks very much, Brian
My Grandmothers sisters name was Sarah Prentice Carriere, she was born in Glasgow, Scotland on May 31, 1909. Her fathers name was Charles Prentice, her mothers name was Catherine Wiley Prentice, she was from Ireland, settled in Renton. Siblings were, Alexander, Winifred, Kathryn (Katie), Peter, Charles, Joseph.

My grandmother winnie, went to Canada in the early 1900's via boat with sarah. I believe she may have married an Arthur Carriere, and settled in the Boston, MA area. I also believe she had two boys, Francis Charles Carriere and Arthur George Carriere II.

My grandmother aged 98 years is the only living sibling of sarah and is interested to find any information,

Any info would be appreciated.

my email is sugax@hotmail.co.uk
Hi, I am still struggling with Ted Prentice in Ipswich.
Did you get chance to speak to your mother?
My adoption papers are my only lead. It says S T Prentice (Ted) was father. My mother was Rose Prior who lived in Rands Way, Ipswich. Apparantly Ted was know as Uncle Ted to my biological sisters who were not adopted and stayed with Rose Prior.

I don't live in East Anglia and have not been able to search thorugh electoral registers etc.
If anyone can help I would be eternally grateful and willing to pay a small amount for a search.

Please contact me direct if you can help on cab13@tiscali.co.uk

Thanks Chris Bennett

Davy,

I have a Charlotte Caldwell Ingram (b. 1904, Paisley, Scotland), mother was Margaret Prentice, in my tree. Can this be the same family line? Margaret Prentice's father was John Prentice, b. 1860. I do not know her mother's name, but I am wondering if it is Caldwell.
