"WILLIAM PRESSER, an influential leader in the Teamsters union for more than 50 years, has died of a heart attack at the age of 74.
Presser, who died Saturday at his home in suburban Lyndhurst, Ohio was a former international vice president of the Teamsters. His son, Jackie, has served in that position since replacing his father in 1976.
Phil Horne, Jr., president of Teamsters Local 24, with 3,000 members in the Akron area, described PRESSER as 'probably the most powerful leader we ever had,' and well liked by Teamsters leaders.
Presser occasionally clashed with the government, being convicted twice in the 1960's, once for contempt of Congress and later for obstruction of justice."
Published in The Tampa Tribune, July 20, 1981, p. D7.
