Hi sounds like something I seen about William de Prestwude. Who is apart of my familys history. I also hear that and he had came over here in the year 1176. Was wondering if maybe this was the same person.I don't know much of the history of the Prestwude/Presswoods from England.I would be very glad to hear back from you about this.

Ida Susan Rebeca Presswood was my grandmother. My mother's name was Hattie. I am also looking for any information on Ida's parents, Benjamin Franklin Fritts and Martha Moses Fritts. Interested on sharing **any** information on the PRESSWOOD family in CANADA. One family settled in Halton Co. about 1900. They marry HANCOCKs (which I am a descent of through TIMLECK) and STARRET/STARET/STERRETT/STERET but there is little info besides some 1911 census data. Have most of the family but would like to trace them definitively back to England (where they most surely orginated, probably Huntspill???)

My late fathers' cousin Constance Hurren married Lesley Presswood of Anston I believe. I would like to know more about the Brammer family of Anston, my grandpa Brammer was born there aand was good friends with the Presswoods. His wife my grandma (nee Ward) was Constances' aunt. I don't have aaaany more info than that.

Family Celebrates Golden Anniversary
Mr and Mrs. ANDREW RAMSEY RICHARDSON who reside in the Salona community of Montague County celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary at their home January 12, 1929. Mr. Richardson is son of FERNIE MARYETTA RICHARDSON and was born in Sumpter County, Alabama in 1859. Mrs. Richardson was the daughter of JOHN and MARY PRESSWOOD and was born in Sumpter County, Alabama in 1861.

Mr and Mrs. Richardson were married in Freestone County in 1879 and moved to Montague County the same year. They settled near Queen’s peak, then they moved to Salona community in 1890 and have lived and farmed there since that time.

There were ten children born to this union, five of whom are living. They were all present at the gathering. Fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren were present.

The children are: MRS. MAGGIE JACKSON of Dundee, Texas; W. A. RICHARDSON of Bowie, Texas; SAM RICHARDSON of Lamesa, Texas; F. R. RICHARDSON of Bowie, Texas; and S. A. RICHARDSON of Lamesa, Texas.

Friends and relatives present were; L. D. PRESSWOOD and family; T. L. BROWN and family; L. F. BRIGANCE and family; MRS. M. A. REED; R. W. PAYNE and family; G. LYONS and family; H. A. RICHARDSON and family; A. C. ROBERTS and family; S. W. LYONS and family; H. F. FAULKENBERRY and family; JIM CLARK and J. A. ALLEN of the Mountain Home community. Dinner was served to 63 persons.

I saw your info on Rootsweb.com about the Presswood family. I'm interested on this side of the family and locating more information about the Presswoods, Keens, and Todds. John Todd who came from England married a Malinda Presswood and had 2 children with her and she passed away and he married her sister Catherine and had 3 children with her. I just found the Presswood messge board and was reading and wanted to say that my husbands' family is from Perry County. It looks like his great great grandfather John Todd was married to a Malinda Presswood and had 2 children with her and apparently she passed away and he married her sister Catherine and had 3 children with John Todd. I assume this family is related to your family somewhere along the line. I would be really interested in any information that you might have. We live in Texas also!

I'm so lovin you right now!! I havent been able to find anything on Lewis R before 1850 in alabama. He was married to Jemimah Barber he was 18 she was 15 at the time. Do you have any more info on him or his family?

Looking for descendants of a "Grandma Presswood" who, according to her 1924 obit, was buried in Rosedale Cemetery, Gladewater, Gregg Co., TX. Also listed in the obit are three daughters, Mrs. Lillian Lawhon of Wichita Falls, Mrs. Linnie Lamber of St. Louis and Mrs. Minnie Rushing of Gladewater. There are marked graves for her daughter, Minnie Rushing, d. 1933 and husband W. A. Rushing, d. 1941, but Grandma Presswood lies in an unmarked grave. I am researching the line of Josiah Presswood. I am a direct decendant of Josiah H. (son of Josiah and Catherine ) and Alcy Arnet. Has anyone located Josiah (the elder) after 1850? (Note: the 1880 Census of Catherine indicates she is widowed or divorced)

On the 1860 census Catharine is the head of the family. I believe that Josiah has passed on by this time. There is a stone for him in the Mueller Hill cemetery in Pinckneyville, but it is a new stone and I don't know who put it there or where they got their information.

On the 1920 Tilden Randolph Co., Illinois census Arthur and his parents are listed as being born in Illinois. His wife Sarah Hart and her parents are listed as being born in England. I believe that Arthur's parents are Josiah and Alcy Elizabeth (Arnett) Presswood.

Josiah was the son of Josiah and Catherine Presswood who were first found on the 1850 Perry County Illinois census.
On the 1850 census it lists Josiah as being born in South Carolina. It appears that the early Presswood's came from England and that the name may have actually originally been Prestwood but by 1820 most of the Prestwood's had taken on the Presswood spelling. I have not been able to find out for sure who Josiah belonged to so I still do not know if the Perry County Illinois Presswoods are English or German.

I wonder if this is the same family it seems like a lot of coincidences if it is not.

Did you find the infro that you need? 8 years ago the Presswood had a family reunion in texas,, and it bought together the blacks and white presswood and had the tree of how it all feel together...... and when the first presswood came over to the us, Last Aug 2006, it was held in Des Moines, Iowa........ where there was lots of history. you can reach me @ Mgcb@hotmail.com.The next reunion will be in Groosecreek,SC in Aug 2008.

Authur was my Grandfather, Everette was my Father, and Sarah was my Grandmother, Clyde was my Uncle, Marge "is" my Aunt, and Kenny "is" my Uncle.

Kenny currently lives in DuQuoin, Illinois.
Marge currently lives in Boulder, Colorado, and probably knows some of the family history.

The rest of the Tildon, Ill. connection are deceased to the best of my knowledge.

The Perry County, Ill. info is something I've never seen. It's really quite interesting. I'd like to know more about the England connection (ie: when they came over ... what ship ... etc.) if anyone has info.

I was told when I was a little girl, that my last name is slave name. Most of my slave ancestors got their names according to what they doing or how they were working on the plantation. For example, If your last name is "Robinson" you were the son of a Robin. If your last name is "Smith" you were the son a blacksmith.
