I apologize for attempting to reach you through this forum, but I'm attempting to find that ancestors of my ggg grandmother Margaret CURRY. I've visited you family tree at ancestry and I realize that may not have a Margaret listed as a daughter of Hugh and Mary KING CURRY of Odgensburg, St. Lawrence, NY, but they fit too well not to be the parents of Margaret.

Here's what I know about my Margaret: Born 1834 in Ogdensburg, St. Lawrence County, NY, and died July 12, 1894 in Port Hope, Canada. She married James OLIVER abt. 1855. He was born 1824 in England, and died May 15, 1905 in Albion, MI. According to the 1881 Canadian census, Margaret was of Irish origin. Also, according to the 1881 Canadian census, it appears that Margaret and James OLIVER were living in Canada before the birth of their first child about 1855:

Household Record 1881 Canadian Census

Household:
Name Marital Status Gender Ethnic Origin Age Birthplace Occupation Religion
James OLIVER M Male English 57 England Shoemaker Presbyterian
Margaret J. OLIVER M Female Irish 47 USA Presbyterian
Elizabeth J. OLIVER Female English 26 Ontario Dressmaker Baptist
Margaret E. OLIVER Female English 23 Ontario Dressmaker Baptist
Annie OLIVER Female English 17 Ontario Baptist
Thomas OLIVER Male English 11 Ontario Presbyterian

Source Information:
Census Place Port Hope, Durham East, Ontario

I’ve also seen Margaret’s last name spelled “CORRY”.

I looked for her as part of the family on the 1850 census, but she did not appear, (below) but she would have been 16 and could have been working and living as a nanny with a relative or friend of the family (couldn't find her anywhere in the area on the 1850 census). She could have also fit between John and Peter in age, though it is possible she is not their child.

1850 United States Federal Census about Hugh CURRY
Name: Hugh CURRY
Age: 46
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1804
Birth Place: Ireland
Gender: Male
Home in 1850(City,County,State): Oswegatchie, Saint Lawrence, New York
Family Number: 492
Household Members: Name Age
Hugh CURRY
46
Mary CURRY
46
John CURRY
17
Peter CURRY
15
Mary Ann CURRY
13
Catherine CURRY
12
Bridget CURRY
10
Jesse Eaton
17

I'd love to hear from you on this matter and see if I can make the connection or if you know of any other CURRY or CORRY families from Ogdensburg/Oswegatchie township that could fit the bill.

Thanks in advance for your help and cooperation.

LeAnn
William Preston from St John the Evangelist, Westminster

I am seeking contact with fellow descendents of William Preston of Westminster, on behalf of Carole O'Hare of St Helens. He married Carole's great-grandma Sarah Nettlefold, of Thames Ditton, in 1859 at Westminster. Their son George Henry moved to Lancashire and married Harriet Ball, Carole's grandma. Carole would love to be in contact with other descendents and hopefully exchange information.
I am interested in your Preston who was a flower child for Queen Victoria. I am researching George and Mary Preston who were born England and came to the US around 1835 were in the military and were stationed at Ft. Smith, Ark. Her is the note from the Biography of her granschild Frederick
Swift.

His grandmother, who was familiarly known as Grandma Preston, came to Ft. Smith at an early day and lived until recently, when she passed away lamented by all who had known the fine old character who had so long been identified with the growth of Ft. Smith. She came here from England, where she had been known to Queen Victoria and her household attendants in that department which means so much to royal, happiness - the table. While a garrison of United States soldiers were stationed here and at Ft. Gibson her house was the resort of the officers for the best of rations and they made it their headquarters. her grandson, Fred. D. Swift, is an enterprising, energetic young man, who cherishes above all things the memory of his parents and grandparents, whom he was almost too young to remember when he lost them.
Wanda Greathouse, wgreath760@aol.com

His birth record lists him as being born in Wolverhampton.
Anyway, he married Mary Boughey (daughter of James) in Dudley, Staff in 1866.
Would love to know more about this Preston family in England.
KARON

Mary Ann was a
daughter of Emiline Benson Preston
The documentation showing Othniel Preston III abt 1785-abt 1860 Dubuque, Iowa to Othniel Preston Jr is the last piece of the puzzle I need to apply to DAR as a decendent of Othniel Preston Jr. Hope you can help me. What Queen did he serve?
Mary Niblett Holmes Preston, wife of George Preston served Queen Victoria in the kitchen or at her table.

Mary was born 1808 England. She first married George Holmes born about 1820 England. Their children were:
Sophia Elizabeth Holmes born 1820 England
Ann Holmes born 1834 England
Charles Holmes.

George Preston was born about 1820 England
He died arout 1864 in Fort Smith, Arkansas a soldier of the Civil War, we are awaiting his war records.

One grandaughter Ann Swift is recorded as being born
26 Dec 11834 New Mills, Yorkshire, England.
I hope you can be of help.

George Preston born England BORN MAYBE AROUND 1820 ENGLAND
married Mary Niblett 1808 ENGLAND
children:
1. GEORGE B. PRESTON BORN ABOUT 1841

mARY NIBLETT HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN MARRIED TO GEORGE HOLMES.

I realize this isn't much to go on. I do know that Mary Niblet Preston Holmes worked for Queen Victoria, either as a kitchen worker or table server. She had a brother John Henry Niblett who was born 1826 Glouchestershire, England. He came to the US at the end of the Civil War, but his sister was here earlier.
George Preston Sr. also was a soldier of the Civil War, and served in Oklahoma and Arkansas. He died at Fort Smith, Arkansas as did his wife Mary Niblett Holmes Preston, she left a will.
Wanda Greathouse wgreath760@aol.com

I am seeking information on a George Preston, middle initial might be B., he married Mary Holmes (I think her maiden name was Niblett). She at one time worked in the kitchen or served the table of Queen Victoria.
Mary first married ___________ Holmes and had the following children:
1.Sophia Elizabeth Holmes born 1830
2. Ann A. Holmes born 26 Dec 1834 New Mills, Yorkshire, England.
3. Charles Holmes.
She married 2. George Preston and had a son George B. Preston.
Sometime in the late 1840's or early 1850's they moved to the United States and likely lived in Pennsylvania before moving on to Arkansas and Oklahoma.
George Preston was a Soldier and lived at Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma and Fort Smith, Arkansas. He is buried in the Fort Smith National Cemetery with his wife. We have ordered his service record but have not recieved it as yet.
His son George B. Preston had a son Charles Preston.
My great-grandfather was John Henry Niblett born 1826 Glouchestershire England, also a Civil War Soldier. This line has many Soldiers in it, and most are buried at Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Any help???
Wanda Greathouse wgreath760@aol.com

I've long been looking to place Jedediah Preston Fowler, b. abt 1811 in NH, with his parents. I found a reference in "The History of Hillsborough, New Hampshire" that showed some promise.

Jedediah Preston d. 1823

Second child was Esther Preston b. Feb 27, 1776, d. 1842. She married Jedediah Fowler and moved to NY.

There seems to be a possible connection between Jedediah Preston Fowler to Jedediah and Esther Preston Fowler. Can anyone verify?

Relative to Joseph Preston of New Jersey/Shelby Co., OH/ and Peoria Co., IL...

Please use www.schoaff.org for a full set of notes, but simply, Joseph first married Rebecca Platt. Rebecca had a brother, John. Rebecca and John each died in Illinois in mid 1850's; Joseph married John's widow, Mary Attison. Joseph had a bunch of kids in each marriage. He and Mary went back to Ohio to take over a legacy farm and stayed there with the new family, leaving all the kids from the first one to fend for themselves in Illinois. (That is too strong, I'm sure. They all were placed as servants or were old enough to be on their own and married. They were on good terms with Joseph before he died.

The youngest daughter of the first family, Susan, went to Peoria to find work as a housekeeper to a civil war vet and widower, Ignatus Schaaf/Schoaff. Nature took its course, my Grandfather Gilbert being the firstborn in 1872.

Hi, I am the daughter of Edwin M. Jones. He was the son of Anna Preston Jones and Harry D. Jones. Anna (Preston) Jones died on Sept 3, 1978 in Dayton, Ohio at the age of 92. She is buried as Anna Jones at Earlham cemetery in Richmond, Indiana, next to her sister, Violet. Not far from her grave is the monument/headstone with one word on it - Preston. That is where her parents are buried. Hope this helps. I, too, am seeking additional information on the family.

Thanks for the reply. I came across Alice's site a few years ago and we traded emails, but she was not able to help me.

I am trying to find the parents of my 3rd great-grandfather, Francis Asbury Preston, b 1832 near Nicholasville, KY.

He appears on the 1850 Jessamine Co, KY census on the same page with Lewis Preston, Milton Preston and Berryman Preston. I found a marriage consent dated 9-Jan-1868, signed by Francis and witnessed by Gratten Preston. By a process of elimination, I think his father may have been your Lewis Preston.

This has been a real brick wall for me. I assume your grandmother's notes didn't list any possible children of Lewis other than those on Alice's site?

Alan,

Sounds like we are related. My cousin-in-law Alice knows a lot of info on the Prestons. If you go to http://a91844.tribalpages.com/tribe/browse?userid=a91844&amp... this will probably help more than I could possibly tell you myself. Her website is: http://a91844.tribalpages.com/tribe/browse?userid=a91844&amp... We've been able to help each other with pictures and info. Hope this helps. Let me know if I can help more.

Chris
