I was able to buy several copies a few years ago from Amazon.com- they act as middlemen for other book sellers for used books. I gave copies to my brothers and sister.

I wonder if anyone is working on updating / correcting the info- I know I have found a few mistakes in my little branch. I come through that same branch as you- Thomas m to Elizabeth Pugsley, son Thomas,his son Thomas, his daughter Sarah (who married William Px 1846 (PX book does not match census and BMD certificates here...). You can request a copy from your local library under the inter library loan.Cost a couple of pounds.
Thats what I did.

Also at the History Press there is a man called Kevin Paul
who is looking into the possibility of printing a small number of copies of this book.

Thanks so much for looking this up. When I spoke with Elisabeth Prideaux-Brune, she quipped, "for some reason the house and family are amazingly badly documented!" Of course as prolific as William the Conqueror was, we are probably all connected to him, at least through Kevin Bacon. I recently read that Princes William and Harry can trace at least 40 connections back to him [William, not Kevin].

I've looked at my copy of 'Prideaux A Westcountry Clan' and can't find any references to Christian Prideaux and Edward Godolphin. I think that possibly Thomas Prideaux may have been Sir Thomas Prideaux who married Jane daughter of Philip Bodrugan. This is on Pedigree 3 in the book. Thomas was the 4xgreat grandson of Paganus Prideaux, the first recorded Prideaux. I can find no reference to William the Conquerer. I have seen the reference you referred to on the Prideaux Place website but have found no evidence that the Prideauxs were descendants of William the Conquerer. Perhaps it is the Brune part of the name.

There are many entries on Rootsweb referrring to Christian and Edward.

Our family shows a Christian Prideaux marrying into our Godolphin line in 1294. In this instance, Christian is female, born 1274 in Prideaux, Cornwall. Her father is listed as Thomas, born in 1248.

The Prideaux Place site [http://www.prideauxplace.co.uk/] claims the Prideaux lines "descend from such diverse characters as William the Conqueror, King Edward I and Queen Eleanor of Castile. Jane Austen too was a close relation." However, I cannot find anything more than what I outlined above. Elisabeth Prideaux-Brune suggested that I search for Roy Prideaux's book, but I have not had any success. Would you be willing to check these two names for me? I would love to establish another line to Edward I, et al.

Get the book Prideaux a West country clan By RM Prideaux
from intercounty library.
request it from your local library for a small fee it will answer all of your questions.
It has all the prideaux pedegrees and family trees with a chapter on each pedegree.

I can tell you his father was john christened 1689 and his mother was ann. also surname is a bit muddled (PRIDDEAU)because of church clerks lack of literacy skills.

I am having trouble finding history on Richard Prideaux he and had a daughter called Sarah Prideaux b.16 Oct 1825 (picked up of marriage cert) who married Charles Langdon Polmear on the 24 June 1846,there were 4 children 1.Emma Prideaux (Mothers maiden name)2.Mary Maria Rosalee Polmear 3.Thomas Langdon Polmear, 4. William Langdon Polmear. Would greatful if any of these show up in your "Prideaux Book"

I am researching the Prideaux family in Landkey, Devon. I received a message on another forum a few years ago suggesting I read Prideaux: A Westcountry Clan. I've been trying to get hold of a copy for about a year and am having no luck whatsoever. If anyone has a copy of the book and would be willing to provide any information on my ancestors and how they link (if they do) to the Prideaux clan of Cornwall, I'd be very grateful. The names I'm stuck on are:

Thoman PRIDEAUX m Elizabeth PUGSLEY. I understand that he married firstly Hannah TROUT. One of their children, Prudence PRIDEAUX m William MARQUISS. I have the names and christening dates of Thomas and Elizabeth's children from the IGI

Thomas PRIDEAUX was the son of George PRIDEAUX (PRIDDAX) m Mary SUMERS. They had three children; John, George and Thomas.

That's all I've got! Any help would be much appreciated.

I have a copy of the book through inter library loans so only have for a short time before it has to be returned. Trying to purchase the book is impossble as it is out of print and second hand can cost as much as £250.

My apologies but when I check the execution refers to Robert Prideaux - unfortunately seem to be getting my Roberts and Rogers mixed up I think. However, I may have found this information out. He appears to have been executed for his part in the murder of his mistresses husband (he was a servant in the household).... that's devotion to duty for you.

I don't know if you can help me solve another hypothesis I am struggling to comprehend?

I am trying to work out the connection between pedigree 16 beginning with Philip Predys on page 212 to pedigree 15 on pages 210/211. The author suggests he found the link but I've been unable to spot it despite studying the chapter really hard, I think it needs a fresh pair of eyes. Again on page 208 in the last paragraph he tells us he had made the vital link between Steven, Philip and John of Braunton with Nicholas of Barbados - Nicholas of Barbados is part of Pedegree 16 as Philip Predy's reputed great grandson - that therefore seems to connect the pedigrees but I just don't know how. The only idea I can come up with is that the Philip who heads up Pedigree 16 may have been a brother or a cousin of the Steven and John that head up the pedigree 15 lines. Braunton, Barnstaple and Georgeham are a cats whisker away from each other.

The other statement I have not been able to research is again mentioned in the same sentence as the execution of Richard and this is Dorothy's attachment to the recusant Arundell family of Dorset - I wonder whether there is any more background to this?

Any ideas would be most gratefully received.

On reading the Prideaux book (A West Country Clan, the author talks about the execution of a Roger Prideaux in 1591. The author wonders whether this incident may have been an influential factor as to why certain branches of the family moved towards Somerset. Does anyone know what the execution was for? Have been unable to find any information about this.

I have just seen your message on the roots site concerning Margaret Prideaux and John Williams they are my 12 X gg parents as well.on my mothers maternal side and on her paternal side Margaret is my 12 X gg aunt making Fulk Prideaux and Catharine Poyntz my 13 X gg grandparents twice over.

I am having trouble with the Prideaux line. I am not sure if Su Prideaux's line is correct because according to Burkes the line is different,it includes Jeffery Prideaux marrying Isabella Montacute,Roger Prideaux marrying Elizabeth Clifford and Richard Prideaux marring Elizabeth Mortimer these Prideaux's are all direct relatives to Fulk Prideaux. What do you think ??

I to have now read Michael Prideaux's book from an intercunty loan.
And would like to add an ammendment to one of the Prideax trees.
Stephen Prideaux chr 21.2.1692 in Camborne and his wife Catharine Cisley [Caseley] had another daughter which does not show on the tree she was Jane Prideaux chr St Ives 29 May 1737,probaly the reason she never showed was because she was not christened in Camborne whereas her siblings were.
Also anther subscriber mentioned Margaret Prideaux married John Williams which is correct but was Mark Williams their son is there any proof of this and if so where is the source ?

I am the grand-niece of Hulda NEIDHARDT and Roy PRIDEAUX in North Dakota. I have several old family photographs of the PRIDEAUX family going back to the early 1900's. Since Hulda and Roy have no living direct descendants, I would like to return these photos to a member of the PRIDEAUX family.

Roy was born in Wisconsin and I know from family letters that Roy's family -- his parents and siblings -- were living in Dickinson, ND in 1917 until at least the 1930's.

I understand that after living in India this relative came home to her family in either Cornwall or Devon and died in the UK. Could anyone researching the Prideaux family have any more information

The book Prideaux A Westcountry Clan by RM (Roy)Prideaux was published in 1989. There was a limited number of books printed - those with an interest in the Prideaux name were asked to subscribe to the book so that it could be printed -there is a list of subscribers in the back of the book including my husband. I would think that it would be quite difficult to find a copy of the book for sale anywhere in the world.

I'm happy to look up information in the book for anyone.

I'm hoping someone may know something of Mary Prideaux born c1812 in England according to her death certificate. Mary came to Sydney NSW Australia in 1851 as an Assisted Migrant - her age was given as 39. Mary, a spinster married Nathaniel Stingall in 1852 in Sydney.

I'm looking for where she was born - England according to her death certificate and who her parents were - both parents' first names unknown but father's surname listed as Prideaux and mother's as Orchard.

I would appreciate any information about Mary and her Prideaux family.

There will certainly be a connection but many generations back. My Prideauxs were humble seamen, fishermen and farmers from the Isles of Scilly. It's thought their ancestor was from Truro Cornwall and were descended from William Prideaux of Trevose.

hi, i would think its the same family my connection with the prideaux family starts in 1510 when john williams marries margaret prideaux they had a son mark williams.
i have traced the prideaux line back to 1040 several of them fought in the battle of hastings 1066.
so forward from 1510 i dont realy have any information

The Prideaux's marry the Greville/Grevile and Ruddock families at various times, partly through many being Church of England/Establish Church Vicars or Solicitors or Doctors who's families seem to inter-marry alot.
