Thomas jefferson and Rufus priest

My ancestor was Thomas jefferson Priest born 1860, and married an Aramartha "Cora" hinton born 1861. Thomas and his siblings were born in MS. Aramartha was as well but the hinton's were originally from AL. I believe that the family was living around Troy MS when Thomas and his siblings were born. I have found another family of Priest still living in that area and I believe that we are distant relatives. my reason for thinking this is that I believe they were both related to Rufus Priest born 1857. Thomas Jefferson prist had a son named Rufus curtis priest, and there was a Rufus curtis Priest living in Troy at the right time to have been a brother to Thomas Jefferson. I know that I am not being clear but what I need is a confirmation that Rufus Priest of 1857 was a brother to Thomas Jefferson Priest of 1860. If anyone has information on the Priest family that was living in Pontotoc MS in the 1860's -late 1890 (when Thomas Jefferson moved his family to Texas) please let me know.

Aug68model@yahoo.com

Hi, David:

About 15 years ago I made contact with a distant cousin on the Priest family and subsequently was sent a package containing quite a few documents and a few papers on the Priest family.
Thomas Allen Glenn's 1913 article on James Miles triangulated with Prees-Price-Priest Y-DNA

The last paragraph of this posting explains its relevance to PREES, PRICE, and PRIEST.

Glenn, T. A. (1913). James Miles and some of his descendants. Pennsylvania Magazine of History and Biography, 37, 240-247.

http://www.archive.org/download/pennsylvaniamaga37histuoft/p...

The large pdf above (542 pages, 400MB) is the entirety of Volume 37 of The Pennsylvania Magazine of History and Biography. The article by Thomas Allen Glenn (1913, pp. 240-247) is eight pages long. It includes detailed genealogical information about James Miles and several of his children. James Miles arrived in Philadelphia from Llanfihangel Helygen, Radnorshire, Wales as a Friend (Quaker). Upon arriving in Pennsylvania, James Miles presented to the [Quaker] Philadelphia Monthly Meeting a "Certificate of Removal" issued "5 mo. 27, 1683" by the [Quaker] Redstone Monthly Meeting [in Pembrokeshire, Wales]. Thomas Allen Glenn cites records of Philadelphia's Pennepack Baptist Church as evidence that James Miles later changed to the Baptist Church.

The article presents similarly detailed biographical and descendant information about children of James Miles: Samuel Miles, Richard Miles, Griffith Miles, David Miles, and Ann Miles.

Male-line descendants of James Miles and his sons have Y-chromosome DNA (Y-DNA) that resembles the Y-DNA of male-line descendants of Rees Prees, another Welsh Quaker who arrived in Pennsylvania from Radnorshire, Wales around the same time as members of this Miles family. Currently identified descendants of this Rees Prees have surnames of Price and Priest. In 1688, when Rees Prees, having been widowed after his arrival from Wales in 1684, married Elizabeth Williams of Radnor, PA in the Haverford [PA] Monthly Meeting, Griffith Miles and Samuel Miles were among the signers of the Quaker certificate of marriage. In 1700, Samuel "Meales" (Miles) was a witness to the will of Rees Prees.
Hi, Orien Priest's second husband was Jacob P Herring. She probably married her first husband about 1893, second husband about 1898. They are in the 1900 census for Bradley Co AR, Clay Township, district 17, sheet 13B. They state they have been married 2 years. First husband must have been divorced or died before 1898.
Orien Priest was with family in Drew Co AR in 1880. Father's name was Benjamin, mother, Elizabeth, married in Dec 1869. In 1870, they are living beside an Eliza Priest who may be Benjamin's mother.

Hello,

I am looking for any information on an Orien (Oren) Priest who married James Wiley Roberts (probably in the early 1890s). They had three children, two of which were Benjamin Lafayette Roberts (b. 1894) and Jimmie Beatrice.

They lived in both Jefferson and Drew Co, AR. James Wiley died in the early 1900s (before 1905) and Orien remarried but I am unsure of her second husband's name.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ben L. Roberts is my great grandfather and I have hit a total roadblock finding information on his parents.

Thanks!

Re: Jacob Priest in Wood County OH/Kalkaska MI

Jacob Almi Edwards-Priest, b. October, 1871, Mercer Co., OH, a son of John Wesley Priest and Margaret “Retta” Edwards; m. Cora Delia Priest, around 1893; d. May 6, 1937, Springfield Township, Kalkaska Co., MI; Breeds Cemetery, Kalkaska Co., MI.
According to family records, Jacob was adopted by the Priest family and that his birth name was Edwards. Jacob’s death record in Kalkaska County claims that he was a son of John Priest and “Reta” Edwards, which leads us to believe that he was probably born out of wedlock to Retta prior to her marriage to John Wesley Priest. The 1880 census of Washington Township, Paulding Co., OH, confirms that he was living with them at a young age: Jacob was shown at the age of nine as the oldest of five children of John and Retta Priest. John and Retta were married in April, 1872, after Jacob was born.
Jacob's mother, Retta (Edwards) Priest, was born around 1852-55, a daughter of Jacob and Mary Edwards. She was living in their home in the 1870 census in Mercer County, Ohio. Around the time of her mother's death, she moved with her father to Paulding Co., OH, which is where she married John Wesley Priest.
When Jacob was about 22 years old, he married Cora D. Priest, a first cousin of his adopted father.
Cora was born in Putnam County, Ohio, on June 21, 1876, a daughter of John and Hester Ann Priest. This John Priest was a younger brother of Peter Priest and son of James Priest.	The 1900 census shows Jacob and Cora living in Jackson, Wood Co., OH. Cora’s widowed mother, Mrs. Hester A.
Hi,
Not sure if you are still looking for information on those people 3 years later, but if you are still interested, I have information on most of those people as they are related to my family, the Cravens. The book, The House of Cravens is my main source, however it was published privately in the 1970s, so I don't know how to obtain it now. If you would like any of the information please feel free to contact me here or email me at cravens.hannah@yahoo.co.uk before I have to either publish my tree, or type it all out!
Thanks

Louisa Priest (?) of Montgomery Co., Pennsylvania

I've been really stuck on this problem for 30 years. My 2nd great-grandmother Louisa was born 6 Sep 1826, probably in Merion Square, Lower Merion Twp., Montgomery, Pa. About 1850 she married James Anderson Miller, probably in that area. After giving birth to my great-grandmother Louisa Miller on 17 Feb 1852 she died on 24 Feb 1852. She is buried in the Methodist-Episcopal Cemetery in Gladwyne (formerly known as Merion Square)in the middle of a plot of people called Priest. Although I believe this indicates her maiden name was Priest I have no concrete proof, and it doesn't help me to know who her parents were. She and James were married BEFORE the state began keeping spotty records for two years. Louisa died AFTER the record-keeping ceased. The Methodist minister destroyed the church records. The local newspaper, The Main-Line Times, burned around 1962, according to my late mother. Does anyone out there have a Bible record or written family account relating to Louisa???If so, I would deeply appreciate hearing from you so that I can break this line open. Thanks!!!

Looking for George Abraham Priest. I know all about him after his marriage 8.2.1917 Portsmouth but have no knowledge of him before that. Although I know his birth date I don't know where he was born. Possible connection with London, he was a tea taster there. Was living in boarding house, Southampton, Eng. just prior to his marriage. Probably not brought up by his parents. Fathers name Abraham Priest (Indoor excise officer in Portsmouth, England).

Would be grateful of any help.

H

Thank you for your reply.

On George Abraham Priest's m. cert. his age does tally with d. cert. His occupation was Greengrocer & his fathers occupation was Indoor Excise Officer. He is shown as dec'd on George's m. cert. of 1917. George A. lived in Portsmouth, England after he married but I have no idea where he lived before that.

I think he will remain a mystery unless you have any ideas!

Just in case. A George Priest was born in the December quarter 1875 in Wycombe Bucks, (ref.3a 495) and a Henry George A. Priest in Fulham (ref.1a 202) in the same quarter. People did add, subtract or abandon names. Do either of these places ring a bell? Good luck.
