Surnames: PRINCETON, HELGREN
Hi,
I'm the administrator for this new Message Board--Princeton.
My family story is that my grandfather, Eugene Russell HELGREN, changed his birth surname to Princeton when he drove through Princeton, Minnesota on the way up from Chicago to DuLuth, Minnesota to marry my grandmother, Edna EHLERS. I guess he liked the princely sound of that name and might have been embarrassed by his Swedish-Chicago ancestory. Why? Beats me. His first son was Eugene Russell Princeton, Jr. (of course, named after him) and his second son was (no lie) Harvard Yale Princeton (listed in an early paperback edition of Guinness Book of World Records). So, this family's name has been around only several generations. I haven't found much out about my HELGREN family from Chicago.
Regards,
Todd Myers
