I am James Prior formally from Medford, Ma. I have paperwork from James Andrew Prior naturalization 1893. My father was an alderman in Medford for 30 years. He was married to Ruth Faulkner. John and Albert were my father's brothers. Who are your parents? I am interested in talking with you about family history as I believe we are talking about the same family. Please e-mail me at jprior107@comcast.net.

Hi again
I have been looking at your Prior family and can see your problem.
Have easily located your parents Stuart George Prior & Brenda H Patrick. Then Stuart's parents George Albert Prior & Judith C Shirley; George Albert's parents George Henry Prior & Lily Marshall. Have found a birth reference for George Henry:
George Henry Prior b. Mar Q 1912 Northampton Vol 3b p 70
Mother's maiden name = Newitt
I have not been able to find a Prior marrying a Newitt though and this is the real sticking point. My only advice to you would be to apply for a copy of the birth certificate using the above reference. If we find the names of the parents we can then search for them on the Census. Annoyingly if George Henry had been born a year earlier we could have found him on the 1911!
You can obtain certificates online from:
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ at a cost of £7 per certificate and they normally arrive in about a week.
I am away for the next week but would be pleased to hear how you are getting on.
Good luck
Pam

Hi Pam
I have as far as 1906 on my own and that was my gradfathers stepmother.

I have found that most of my grandparents and ancestors are named after kings. my fathers name is stuart george prior, my grandfathers name is george albert prior, my great grandfathers name is george henry prior and after that I am stuck, no-one knew my grandfathers (george albert) real mother until I found the birth record on here and his mothers name is newitt, I am now stuck and dont know where to go.

We did a geneaology search many years ago and found an eliza and harry prior we think harry was george henry priors grandfather and eliza is harrys mother but are unsure of this, any help would be good,

thank you

I haven't been able to trace my father's past just yet. All I have to start is his father's name: Frederick Prior, born 1889/1890, either born in Toronto, Ontario, or born in England, imigrated to Toronto then to Buffalo, NY area.

Do any of you have a Frederick Prior in your family tree that may fit that description?

Thank you for your help!

I can't make any connections to this family at this time. We are decendants of Charlotte's brother, Samuel Richard White, and only have Prior (also spelled Pryor) info from Kansas, where Alfred and Charlotte married.
Afred's obit, from his death in 1933, says he was born in Ashford, Kent, England, and came to America in 1870 at the age of 22.

Dear Charlotte,
I hope you are well?
I am related to My Uncle Edward Prior whom I am led to believe now lives in a Residential Care Home according to my Cousins Debra Fuller and Terry Carrington in The Hemel Hempstead area?
Uncle Edward Prior is said to still be alive although Aunty Rose Annette is not unfortunately. Debra is my Cousin Aunt Rose is Debra's late sister.

I think that is correct from what I can remember from my reunion when I recieved The Family Book of The History of my Prior Family LAST YEAR IN OCTOBER 2008.

But I'm not totally sure as they didn't want to give me there addresses of anybody in the family of The Prior's or old spelling of The Pyror's.

They did though give me there email addresses and telephone numbers. To contact them on!!

Which I have been doing just recently.I have The History of The Prior's in the book called "Not Expecting Miracles." SET IN LONDON IN 1908.BY GREAT AUNT ALICE LINTON!!
I also have the Prior family history that was began by Franklin Prior born in Woodstock VT in 1801 and transcribed by several people between now and then. It mentions Cora and your father and uncle. It states that Cora was the daughter of Elbridge William Prior and Helen Headle. I have no idea how accurate the history is but it is very detailed about the lives of the Franllin Prior family. It mentions how Cora was a school teacher and says Harry Powers was a 'minister of the gospel' and that the Powers held the 100th anniversary of Franklin Prior's birth at their home in 1901 about the time the history is believed to have written. if the history is correct your grandmother Cora would have been the first cousin of my great great grandmother Emma Prior.

I don't believe your Henry Prior is related to mine. My first Henry Prior was the son of George Prior (pob and ancestry unk) and Martha Huggins. They were married in Horning in 1775 and had 7 children. Henry Prior had son Henry Prior (b. between 1811-1813 in Horning). He married Susan Harrison in Thirne in 1845. He is alleged to have died in Michigan, but I have not been able to confirm this. This Henry had brothers James and George Prior and a sister Mary Ann Case Prior. James married Maria George, George married Elizabeth Dawson in Thirne in 1842. I have no information about Mary Ann

My grandmother was Matilda Prior (b. 1870/71 Kensington father George Prior) Let me know if you are interested to exchange information - Marg

Hi Chris,

Managed to find them in High Ongar on the 1861 census. Reason couldn't find them in the first place was the name on the census was misspelt, Pryor instead of Prior.

Rgds

Rod Newson

Hi Rod,

No such stories I'm afraid.

You will find them on the 1861 High Ongar census, under the name Pryor. See High Ongar, folio RG9, 1066, page 7. My grandfather is listed too under the name Skingley. You can also find them through a search for Joseph Skingley under the 1861 Census on Ancestry.co.uk.

The 's' seems to come and go. It should really be Skingley, but since my grandfather's first marriage it has been Skingsley. That's life !!

Also, I did visit the Essex RO to see the original marriage certificate for Elizabeth and Daniel. I can email you a copy if you would like it. You can contact me through the ancestry email system and I will return you my home email address.

Regards

Chris
