Prophet/Proffitt--various spellings--Mississippi

I am searching for someone who may be researching the Prophet (various spellings) families in Mississippi. I am specifically hoping to locate someone who knows about a "Jack" or Zach Prophet who lived in Carroll County, Mississippi in 1870. A paper describing this "Jack" Prophet came into my hands, but the name of its author is lost. I have done research, and "Jack" was actually named "Zach." In Carroll County, he was listed as "Zac." I am fairly certain that he is the brother of my David Prophett/Prophitt. David had a son named Zachariah and other clues fit. Would like to contact someone who is interested in this family. Zach married Mary Elizabeth Ballard in Anson County, NC in 1845.

To: Liz
My great grandmother was Eliza Prophet who came from Cornwall to NZ. This may not be the same one you are looking for, as our ancestor one married a James Humphreys and had children who also moved to NZ. . However, I would be keen to know whether there might be a connection as one of the children in the photo posted with your message bears a family resemblance. There was a Spanish element in our family but we haven't been able to pinpoint anything.

Re: James Prophet

James Proffitt, son of Sylvester Proffitt and Alice Pleasant, was born 1734 and married Mary Lawson in 1758 in Virginia. Other siblings are Lucy, John, David, William, Anna and Elizabeth. What's confusing is that I have another James Prophet, b. January 26, 1768, Goochland County, VA; d. Wilkes County, NC; m. Mary Lawson. This James Prophet is supposedly the son of John Proffitt (the above family) and Susannah Arrington. Hope this helps!

Hannah Prophet, Rhode Island

Does anyone see this story as being familiar, found on the web...thanks.

The spirit of Robin Eldridge was not to be broken
down. Before entering the army he had married Hannah
Prophet; and he now settled in Warwick, near the
Fulling-Mill; where, by his honest industry, and
general good character, he was always held in esteem. He soon became able to purchase land and build a small house;
when he reared a large family, all of whom inherit
their father's claims to the kindness and respect of
those about them. He had, by this marriage, nine
children; of whom Elleanor was the last of seven
successive daughters. Of these children only five
lived to mature age.

It may now be proper to look back a little, in
order to glance at Elleanor's maternal ancestry. Her
maternal grandmother, Mary Fuller, was a native
Indian, belonging to the small tribe, or clan, called
the Fuller family; which was probably a portion of the
Narragansett tribe. Certain it is that this tribe, or
family, once held great possessions in large tracts of
land; with a portion of which Mary Fuller purchased
her husband Thomas Prophet; who, until his marriage,
had been a slave. Mary Fuller, having witnessed the
departing glories of her tribe, died in extreme old
age, at the house of her son, Caleb Prophet; being 102
years old. She was buried at the Thomas Greene burying
place in Warwick, in the year 1780. Her daughter
Hannah, as we have said before, had been married to Robin Eldridge, the father of Elleanor.

Re: James Prophet

I, too, would like to discover the descendants of James. I believe that my family may descend from him. There was a James Proffitt in Wake County, NC in May, 1778, having received a land entry. Also, a James Proffit received a Revolutionary pay voucher for furnishing corn to army from Wake Co. I understand, however, that there was also a son of John and Susannah Arrington Proffitt who wound up in Yancy County, NC. Two marriages in Wake Co. from the period after the Revolution: Lucy married Isaac Hill on Nov. 9, 1790 and Larkin Profit married Jane Bird 12 Nov. 1787. (much of this info from Fred Davis, a Proffit researcher). Fred believes that Larkin is the son of James from whom my family descends. The lineage (in theory) is thus: Sylvester, James, Larkin, Randal (or Randolph), David Prophitt. My gggrandfather, David, was born in NC (maybe King's Mt.) about 1813. He came to Troup County, Ga. and married Nancy Farrow/Farrar in 1835.
From David back is speculative on my part at present. If you have more info, I would love to hear.
